Ever hear of a dryer drum cracking completely?

We have a 6 year old GE dryer - with a 5 year warranty, of course - where part of the drum has completely cracked, to the point where there is now a hole in the drum. I just found it when taking clothes from the dryer and a pair of pants wouldn't come out.

Turns out that there is a 3" long x 1" wide hole in the drum on the outer edge. This is a stainless steel drum, so no rust.

I guess there is no chance that this is worth fixing...

Who knows who to believe? The guy who sold us our washer and dryer that we should feel we got our money's worth if we got 9 - 10 years.
