Ever have a meal that was surprisingly GOOD?

I just read through 4 pages of everyone's least favorite WDW restaurants. Sadly, some of my favorites were featured "bad" places to eat :( . Just goes to show you....different strokes for different folks!!:p

Anyway, I'd love to hear about some surprisingly good meals you may have had.

For instance, I scheduled a lunch at the Grand Floridian Cafe at the end of our December 2002 trip. We were expecting mediocre food with a stuffy atmosphere, and let me tell ya, we were WRONG. This was definitely one of the all-time best meals we've ever had at WDW, and definitely the best of that trip.

We had a great server, who didn't mind making slight changes to our order (extra mayo, no tomatoes, etc). We thoroughly enjoyed this meal, and definitely plan to visit the Grand Floridian Cafe again!

I'm kinda a picky eater (like the basics), but wanted to try some different places on my last trip, so I went to Spoodle's for dinner. The food & the atmosphere were EXCELLENT!!! The service was wonderful and the whole experience was great. I'm definitely dining here again on my next trip!!

Plaze Restaurant in MK. From the outside I thought that this looked like an upmarket cafe with cafe food. Boy was I wrong!! We go there at least once on every trip. Yummy!!!

Sppodles was surrisingly good for lunch.

Sci Fi cafe

We were hesitant due to all the negetive feedback but we loved it. The food was very good, themeing great and would definatly go again.

Le Cellier had fantastic food...so good I was blown away!

We tried the Plaza Restaurant in MK for the first time in January and were really surprised and delighted with the food.

herc.

We are always surprised at how fresh and tasty everything is at the Sunshine Season Food Fair in The Land, and at Tusker House in Animal Kingdom.

Also, after all the hype we were afraid we would be let down at 'Ohana and California Grill. LOVED them both.

I don't like buffets. I don't like touching the handles on the utensils that 5 billions people have handled, scooping food that 5 billion have breathed on and picked at - I don't like ribs....but I LOVED Boma's. Loved their ribs most of all. Am scared to death that some ax murderer posing as a child care provider will steal my only child, but I Loved Simba's Clubhouse for dd/6 yr. while we ate in peace.

When we go back to Disney, I will definitely make the trip to Boma's.

Have to agree, we never thought of the Plaza Restaurant but it got some good reviews on the boards and we stopped in for lunch one day and it was fantastic. Everyone in our group found something that they liked, soup, sandwiches and of course ice cream.
Other place we really though the nachos were really good was the Cantina by the Mexico pavalion. Not sure what I was expecting but they were good that night even though I ate them cold because my sister had gotten ill and we left EPCOT in a hurry that night.

:p

You can't let your guard down for a minute - even at Disney.

I went to the DD Rainforest for my birthday lunch a couple of years ago. I know they get a lot of complaints on this board, but we really had a great meal. I had the "Paradise Pot Roast" & it was delicious. Very tender beef with veggies & potatoes. The service was outstanding. It just shows that you never know, so don't be afraid to try a place that sounds good to you!

Nine Dragons was surprisingly good. I took a friend to lunch there for his birthday (his choice) and we had the all-you-can-eat lunch deal and I enjoyed it very much. The honey sesame chicken was particularly good!

I think our biggest surprize was getting burgers and fries at Goode's Food to Go at OKW in Dec. '01. The food was excellent and priced right around $5 each. It was so delicious for such a reasonable price! We have had many meals that were more exotic or refined, but no better value than this one!

We do eat at a lot of buffets for convenience and because it's easier with a picky child in my opinion. We've had good food at most of them and mediocre food at others. During our last trip we tried both Boma and Cape May for dinner for the first time. I was very surprised at how good the food was at both of them and I definitely plan to go back!

I wasn't sure what to expect from the Biergarten in Germany at Epcot, but I have RAVED about the food ever since. Even DH, who is a very picky & "traditional" American food eater, loved it! Everything was very tasty.

I have to agree with BadgerBruce and say that the Pot Roast dinner at DD Rainforest Cafe was terrific! I figured the meal would be so-so, but it was really great! My dh had a chicken dish (forget which one) and he raved about it too! Great service, hot, fresh food and fun atmosphere!!

I'd have to say Pizzafari at AK. Due to many negative reviews, I didn't expect to like it. But yummy sandwich and very attractive rooms.

GF Cafe is also one of our favorites. DH and I go every year when the kids are doing the pirate cruise at the GF (this year they're doing Grand Adventures in Cooking). I've had the frittata a few times and once the fruit and granola with a side of turkey sausage. The sausage was AMAZING!!!

Another surprise for us was at the ABC Commissary. We got the scrambled egg breakfast which came with bacon or sausage, biscuit, hash brown and coffee. It was hot and fresh and GOOD. We went here instead of holllywood and vine buffet because we thought that was way overpriced.

I also agree the Plaza Restaurant is awesome. I love the turkey club and german potato salad.

The BBQ chicken flatbread at MGM from catalina Eddies was a nice surprise as well.
