Ever Had These?

We definitely had the folding chairs - all green though if I recall. We had the chopper too. We did not have a kitchen table set like that...but my great grandparents did - in red! I don't remember having a rotary phone in our house, but I was very familliar with them and knew how to use it.

It wasn’t just the rotary phone. It was having a combination of letters and numbers.

My parents would still give their phone number as EM 6-xxxx well into the 80’s.

absolutly! very popular to set up in the back yard where you would lounge slathered in j&j baby oil b/c 'it's healthy to have a nice deep tan' o_O
I still remember that the packing and "get ready instructions" for my summer camp included the words, "Get a good base tan before you come so you avoid sunburn. And bring Solarcaine in case you do." Not a peep about, you know, sunscreen. Man you would be so sued for that today!

i think the big breakthrough for sunscreen happened when the waterproof variety came out in the late 70's. prior to that i did'nt know anyone that regularly used it b/c like your summer camp advised-people were conditioned to believe that the best protection against a sunburn was a carefully curated light tanning and the sunscreen on the market just dripped off with sweat (i remember people with sunburn/tan streaks on their faces from using it). tanning base never worked for me though-as a fair skinned kid i got badly burned every summer. as an adult i was thrilled to discover 'water babies' :thumbsup2
