Are there ever good rates for On-site hotels from the various online booking sites like Expedia, Travelocity, etc?

We are staying at POR-Riverside the first week of June (have three 9 year old boys, so that is one of very few onsite affordable options!). Would love the convenience of the Poly or Contemp. but can't justify the extra $$$. I am keeping my "ears" open for any good deals...and periodically check Expedia, Travelocity, etc.

Am I wasting my time? Even though they advertise low rates, the Disney hotels always come up with the rack rates. Has anyone ever got lucky on one of these sites?

Thanks in advance for any input. I am a new poster to this site and have found it extremely helpful.

Disney holds very tight control on their room inventory. If there's a discount to be had for the general public you will hear it from Disney first. Then places like Expedia and Travelocity are free to offer the same. From my experience any rate you can get off Expedia or Travelocity is available from other sources too like Disney themselves, travel agent, etc. The only discount right now is through AAA, Florida Resident, or AP. Expedia and Travelocity also charge a fee. FYI

Thanks for the reply! I figured that most likely would be the case, but would hate to find out I was wrong! I appreciate your help.

I actually found a lower rate on Orbitz for the Disneyland Hotel. I checked w/Disney Travel Co. over and over and kept getting the same rate ($209.00) I continuously checked Orbitz (literally 2X daily) to see if the price or availability changed and boy did it. They had the original price that DTC quoted me, then about 2 hrs. later, the price dropped to $149.00. I reservied it immediately (didn't need any down payment). I checked the next day and the rate went up.

There are deals to be had, but they are few & far between, and this was DL not WDW. Hope that helped.

I went to Disney last July and had it all booked thru Disney except for airfare. Then, I was checking airfare n Expedia and just checked to see what they had and they had a deal that gave me $150 off of the total package if I booked room and air thru them. I booked it immediately and cancelled my other reservation. This was about 3 weeks before I left as well since it was a last minute trip.

Last October Disney had the WL at the rack rate of $200, but I was able to get in through expedia for $175.

I've been searching around for rates myself, and I just discovered at the end of March, if you stay 8 nights at CBR for 3 adults (1 standard room), it comes to about $1700 if booked through Disney vs. $1400 booked through Expedia. Not sure if this is the exception or the rule though as I've never looked at Expedia before tonight...

ETA: Scratch that... although the page said "for 3 adults, dates X to X," the quote didn't include the 3rd adult or taxes. Expedia's rate is $1757.44 vs. Disney's rate of... well, now I'm not sure whether or not Disney's rate included tax and the 3rd person. If it did, that means Expedia's about $60 higher than Disney. :confused3

ETA2: Okay, apparently the Disney rate does include tax and the 3rd adult, and that means you'd pay about $64 more for the same room from Expedia versus if you got it from Disney. This is even though the site said "Special Rate." So, I'd definitely do comparisons before booking through any one place.
