Ever, Ever After: The TR Formerly Known as Wishing You Were Here- May 2011

You must have looked like Mega-mom lugging all that stuff- you rock, SuperGirl!!!

Love the luggage cart! That's the joy of a double, right?? Proud of you for getting it all to the room in one shot, especially with such a little guy walking along! :thumbsup2

Oh my goodness! What a trip! I surely would have tripped, toppled the stroller, or broken a bone. You must have great coordination!

Yikes, that sounds like quite the task, good for you managing all that in one go!

It wasn't easy, but I was glad to get it all over with as quick as possible. I figured it would be good to get everything set up in our room right away.

Whew! I'm tired just from reading about hauling all the luggage along with the 2 little ones. Sounds like you figured out a great way to get it done in one trip! :thumbsup2 It's amazing the things we learn to do once we become a mom.

I was pretty tired after hauling all the luggage and the boys to the room. I was also pleased to have done it all in one trip and by myself. It's amazing what moms can do when we need to.

Phew! You made it!! Very good job managing all your luggage

I was really glad to find our room. I was worried I'd take the long way, which wouldn't have been good. :rotfl:

boy! im sure that took some work but glad you made it. i can only imagine since i only have one!

In a way, I guess it was easier with two, since I had the big stroller to load up all the stuff. But I guess I also had twice as much stuff to load, so it probably evens out.

Yay you made it to Pop! :cool1: LOL, I can hardly manage my suitcases with no kids, I don't know how you did it with 2 little ones!

I was so happy when we made it to Pop. Finally time for the fun to start. It's funny, before I had kids, I almost never carried my own bags. Jeremy always carried them for me. Once you have kids, everything changes.

Oh my goodness! I am very impressed with your unpacking skills!!!:thumbsup2
I am in awe that you were able to get all your luggage AND two children into your room in one trip.
You put me and my DF to shame. :rotfl2: Here we are two grown adults, (one in the military) and it takes us at least 2 trips to haul everything inside.
Kudos to you!

I felt like it would have been way to unpleasant to make two or more trips back to the car. The boys know would have known we were going back to the car and would have thought they were getting back in and they wouldn't have been very happy.

Great job only having to make one trip. :thumbsup2 That is the way I think as well. You get creative:rotfl:

Having two little kids certainly encourages creativity. :rotfl: Just doing the one trip wasn't too bad. At least it was over fairly quickly.

Doing a little trip report pimping. I just started my new report and thought I would let you know. :goodvibes

Feeling Hot Hot Hot! The Rain Curse is Broken! Two Weeks of Fun in the Sun!

Thanks for letting me know! I can't wait to see how your trip went. :cool1:

Good to see that the city mini can also double as a luggage cart! That was some super awesome organizing that you were able to get everything into the room in one trip. I'm impressed! :)

Sorry Landon wasn't thrilled with being moved around. I've just recently been able to transfer Everett from the car to the stroller or house without him waking up. I really wish it would have happened earlier, because it makes life much easier!

The City Mini was coming in useful already. I probably couldn't have gotten everything in in one trip if I had tried to use one of my old strollers. Everything just sort of fell into place, once I got started loading up the stroller.

I can see Landon's point, since he had been strapped in somewhere an awful lot so far that day, but I felt he should just tough it out until we got checked in to our room. I wish I could transfer Landon without waking him up. What's the secret?:rotfl:

Wowza, you must have been quite a sight:goodvibes
But I am impressed that you did it all by yourself!!!

Come to think of it, we did attract a fair amount of strange looks along the way. That's okay. I was just glad to manage it all without having to ask for help.

Gosh....I'd need a nap after getting both the boys out of the car to check in and then back in the car and then back out of the car with the luggage, etc. But glad to see you managed it all!

A nap would have been very nice once we got to the room, but sadly, the boys were not on the same page at all. They were ready to play all night. Oh, well.

Finally caught up.

I would have had second thoughts if I were dropping off my DH too. I imagine it was the hardest goodbye-for-3-days ever.

I'm glad you were able to manage getting everything to your room. It's never easy with 2 kids plus anything else when you only have two hands.

I think that one moment when we dropped off Jeremy was the hardest of the whole trip. Goodbye-for-3-days doesn't sound nearly as sorrowful, when you put it like that.

Two hands- one for each kid. :thumbsup2 I don't know how people manage with more than two kids. Getting everything to the room wasn't too bad, though.

popcorn:: joining in popcorn::

Welcome! Thanks for joining in!

That's sad, yet sweet, that Carter was so worried about his Daddy. I'm sure he'll have a great time and be happy to see him again on Saturday.

I'm glad you were able to get through the drive and check in relatively well. It looks like it was quite a feat to get the boys and luggage from the car into the room. The description of how everything was loaded and bound together is quite impressive. If only you had another hand to take a picture of you and the boys crossing the parking lot. I'm sure it was quite a sight! :lmao:

Carter's pretty sweet, so I was sorry he felt so bad about it. I didn't really think it would be that big of a deal, since Jeremy goes to work all the time, but I think I underestimated Carter's comprehension of the world.

All things considered, checking in and getting to the room went pretty well. It could have been much worse. We probably did look funny. I should check the Weird-Odd-Strange-Disturbing Photos thread to see if anyone saw us. :lmao:

You must have looked like Mega-mom lugging all that stuff- you rock, SuperGirl!!!

I'm sure I was quite the spectacle. I do sort of wish I had gotten a picture of us, although, I wasn't wearing my Super Cape.

Love the luggage cart! That's the joy of a double, right?? Proud of you for getting it all to the room in one shot, especially with such a little guy walking along! :thumbsup2

That City Mini can hold a lot more stuff than you'd think, especially with only one little boy riding. Carter did do a very good job of walking nicely next to the stroller. I couldn't have done it without him.

Oh my goodness! What a trip! I surely would have tripped, toppled the stroller, or broken a bone. You must have great coordination!

Well, toppling the stroller wasn't an option, since Landon was riding. :rotfl: I could have tripped, although I'm just as glad that I didn't since I might have fell onto Carter.

Wow supermom!!! I don't think I could have navigated with all of that to the room, but awesome that checking in went smoothly :thumbsup2

I unlocked our door and tried to open it wide enough to get the stroller and luggage through. I pushed and realigned, but to no avail.

For some reason, the door simply was not opening widely enough. I squeezed inside the room to see what the problem was, leaving the stroller stuck in the doorway, so Carter and Landon were still in plain view.

Ah, there was the culprit. The Pack N Play I had requested for Landon was set up right behind the door. It was nice that it was set up already, but it couldn't stay there.

I moved it away from the door and got everything inside. Landon wanted to get out immediately, so I set him free to explore. First thing he did was to find a comfy spot on the floor to read.

I didn't bother telling him that he could have read happily in the stroller. I knew that my best chance to get the room organized as I wanted it would be right then, while the boys were still interested in the room, so I got to work.

I decided to do Landon's bed first, since the Pack N Play was still in the middle of the room. I moved it over next to the TV, as out of the way as it could be in a value room.

I spread out his soft, fuzzy Toy Story blanket and placed all of his friends in there, so he would be all set at bedtime.

Next, I studied Carter's bed. The bed rails I had requested were sitting on top of the bed. Carter had never used bed rails before. I had never set up bed rails before.

I decided to unpack the suitcases and come back to the bed rails. I put the big suitcase by the window and the smaller one between the bed and the wall.

Carter appreciated the placement of the smaller suitcase, which let him check out the fifties picture on the wall.

I dug out the outlet plugs, to Landon-proof the room. Not a second too soon, either, since Landon had abandoned his book and was off to see what he could get into.

DSCI0072.JPG

I examined the room for other potential little-boy dangers. I moved the ironing board out of reach so no one could pull it on his head.

I saw Landon going for the phone, so I moved it to the floor, sort of under the bed, where he couldn't see it. The room seemed safe enough for toddlers.

I put all the snack food in one drawer and put all the diaper changing supplies in another. I left one drawer empty, to stick all our dirty clothes in throughout the trip.

I folded up the City Mini and slid it between the other bed and the wall. The room was looking really good. Except for Carter's bed.

I had put it off long enough. I picked up a bed rail and examined it. It couldn't be too hard. There was writing on the side, probably instructions, for first timers like me.

Instead, the writing was a warning, explaining all the different ways in which my child could be injured or killed from improperly installed bed rails. Yet, it included no information on the proper way to install bed rails.

I knew just what Jeremy would say, and I could almost hear him say it.

"Kate, you're a smart person. Bed rails can't be that tricky. Think how many other moms have installed bed rails. If they can do it, you can do it."

Of course, if Jeremy were there, he would probably set up the bed rails himself and not even read the warnings of tragic results from bed rail misuse.

"If they can do it, I can do it."

I picked one up and shoved it under the mattress, the way it looked like it should go. The rail part seemed to lock into place, so I figured it was okay.

I did the same on the other side and then tested it, by lying on the bed and rolling toward the edge. Seemed steady enough to me.

I put Carter's pirate pillows on his bed and added his soft, fuzzy Cars blanket and all his friends.

DSCI0071.JPG

My bed was already fine for me, since I hadn't brought any friends or a soft, fuzzy blanket.

DSCI0070.JPG

I took a minute to pack my parking bag with all the essentials- keys, money, tickets, and phone. I hung up my Dooney and Burke on the hooks. No way I was risking that bag in the parks.

DSCI0074.JPG

And finally, it was all done. The room was perfectly inhabitable. I decided to take a few minutes to relax (i.e. watch Stacy) while the boys played.

Yay for having the room set up! Your trip is going pretty well so far. I'm a little surprised the bed rails weren't ready to go. I remember Pop already having them on the bed farthest from the door when we requested them. :confused3 Glad you figured it out okay! Not that I ever doubted you.. ;)

Nice report, sounds like you got your hands full with two kids all by yourself im sure you will have a awesome trip though.:cool1:

Whew, sounds like you were on a roll! Glad that you were able to get settled into the room with relative ease. Looking forward to seeing how you and the boys spent your first evening.

Kate, awesome job on the room! But why didn't you bring any friends or fuzzy blanket for you? ;)

Seriously, you continue to amaze me Super Mom!

I have to say, everytime I hear a marathon set-up the room story, I am more and more glad I am out of that phase!! Glad you got it just the way you want it, and you're ready to roll. Or relax, as the case may be!

Us Moms are great at multi-tasking, aren't we? Everyday I try to carry everything in from the car, and I think to myself, wouldn't it be easier to just make 2 trips, rather than struggling to carry it all at once? Of course it would also be easier if the boys carried in their own stuff! Why bother, Mom will just do it...

I love your Dooney and Bourke, but why don't I remember reading about when you got it? :scratchin: And here I thought I was a faithful reader!

I like how you insert the boys "thoughts" on things!

That pack n play looks so cozy...I seriously want to jump in there and take a nap! I hope Landon liked it!

Glad you figured out the bed rails! :thumbsup2 Room looks great, sounds like you were very organized!

The boys' beds look so cozy! We always fly, so I never have the space to bring too many of Colby's things from home. But we do always have his favorite stuffed Mickey! You made me tired reading about you getting to your room and getting settled! But it is an amazing feeling to be able to be able to sit back and relax for a few minutes. Can't wait to see what adventures you have next!

I'm already worried about feeding James as a teenager too. He already eats like one! Tonight he ate 4 chicken nuggets, a bowl of soup, a bowl of salad, AND then begged for cheese and crackers! I'm going to have to take a second job to feed him at some point!

Great job with the unpacking! We were really qigong we had brought the double when we were struggling with all our luggage!

Great idea with the blankets. I remembered the "friends" but not blankies. I was scared that James was freezing every night.

You are definitely supermom! I can't imagine being in Disney alone with 2 toddlers.........;) But it looks like you have it all under control!

We are staying in Pop for the first time in August. We are pretty excited about it.

Vivian

I can't imagine going to Disney by myself with two little ones. I worry if I will be able to take my 6 year old by myself. I feel like I will have that moment of, what did I get myself into and what was I thinking.

Great job getting everything to the room and getting everything set up. I guess when you have no other choice you just kind of get it done.

The boys are doing so well. I don't know how I would have managed with the constant asking about Daddy though and at that age they can't really understand that he will be there soon.

Looking forward to more. The boys are so adorable :goodvibes

I just want to say that you are beyond awesome for taking your two little ones to Disney by yourself! :worship:

Super Woman :worship: !!!!! Wow. You deserve a medal or something for being able to handle 2 toddlers and bring in all that stuff AND set up bed rails and whatever else. Things seem to be going okay so far....
