Ever, Ever After: The TR Formerly Known as Wishing You Were Here- May 2011

I'm in! popcorn:: I'm already in awe of you for braving WDW by yourself with two toddlers! I would be wore out if I took my 3 y/o son by myself. Can't wait to hear all about it!

I threw the last of the dishes in the dishwasher and began to sweep the kitchen floor. We were leaving in three more hours and my list of things to do was still dauntingly long.

Despite the cheerful music playing on Magical Mouse Radio, this was not my idea of a fun afternoon. Generally, we put off packing until the night before, staying up late to pack whatever seems useful and leaving the vacation rejects in messy piles all throughout the house.

This time, we were leaving after Jeremy finished work for the day. I had dropped him off in order to save time by leaving directly from his office. Unfortunately, some people would be coming over to look at our house while we were gone and it had to be perfect.

And I only had a couple more hours to perfect it. I finished sweeping and moved upstairs, picking up all the toys the boys had played with during the morning.

A couple hours later, everything was looking pretty good. I had just enough time to run the trash out...and clean the little boy smudges off the windows...and take the snack bag out to the car, before getting the boys up from their naps.

It never fails. If there is somewhere I want to go as soon as they wake up, Carter and Landon will sleep forever. If I have no ideas of anything to do once they wake up and I'd really rather they slept later, they'll be up early.

I went in to get Carter first. He had moved his pirate pillows to the floor and was sleeping down there. He looked cute. I straightened up his room while he slept. Then I got in the floor next to him.

"Hey, Carter. Time to wake now. We're going to Disney World."

His eyes opened and he smiled his pirate smile at me.

"Come on, let's go get Landon."

We went next door to Landon's room and found him sleeping in his crib, sucking his thumb. He looked cute. His room was already clean, so I stood by him and woke him up.

"Hey, Landon! You ready to get going?"

He was ready. He grabbed his Tigger by the tail and the three of us got in the car to go pick up Jeremy.

As we pulled into the parking lot of the place where Jeremy works, Carter knew where we were.

"Daddy?"

"Yes, we're going to pick up Daddy."

Jeremy came right down after a few minutes. It was then that I felt the vacation mood really begin. This was going to be fun.

I continued driving and Jeremy took care of the boys. Landon and Carter did not seem to be sharing in the joy of the start of a trip. They had both been woken up from a nap and neither had had his dinner yet.

Landon was trying to make the best of it.

Carter seemed very hungry and eager for his dinner.

After about thirty minutes on the road, we decided to go ahead and stop for dinner. I had been hoping to make it further before stopping, but the boys were hungry now.

I pulled off at the next exit and we saw a Golden Corral, which seemed like a good choice, since there would be plenty of variety for the boys.

As soon as we started eating, Carter seemed a lot more cheerful. He dug right in and ate quite a bit. He also made sure Blue Dog got enough to eat.

Landon was thrilled to find his favorite food on his plate- crackers.

Carter had two of his favorite food on his plate- black olives and mandarin oranges.

Landon was happy to see our server bring his second favorite food- bread.

Carter finished off his oranges happily.

After a somewhat lengthy stop, we had two very full, happy little boys. We got back in the car, hoping to make some good progress before stopping again.

I'm here and super exciting to see what adventures your trip brought!

I totally agree with the whole length of nap/importance of afternoon activities ratio. Everett will sleep all day if we have somewhere to go, but on boring rainy days with nothing to fill the long afternoons- he will barely sleep at all!

Are you guys selling your house? Is that why it had to be clean?

Looks like you got off to a good start and had a nice dinner. Its too bad you didn't make it further, but probably a good idea to stop before the natives went into total melt down. I was really impressed to see peas and corn on Landon's plate, I don't think Everett would ever let vegetables even get that close to his mouth. :rotfl2:

Carter's new haircut makes him look like a big boy. So cute!

We had so many adventures this time. I'm really excited to get to start a new TR.

I don't know how Carter and Landon even know whether or not we have anywhere to go after naps.:confused3 It never fails, though. Maybe toddlers can sense it somehow.

Yes, we are selling the house. If left to our own devices, it wouldn't really matter to us much whether the house was left perfect or not. But, it was nice to come home to a perfect house.

Landon went through a no-veggies phase recently. I just kept putting the veggies on his plate and he would try it every time. The funny thing about Landon is that he'll pick up a pea and put it in his mouth and make a horrible face and spit it out and then pick up another pea and try again.

Carter's new haircut makes him look like a big boy. So cute!

Thanks! I did his haircut myself. I thought he looked pretty cute with it shorter. :goodvibes

Great start!!! Are you hoping to stay in the same town you are now, or are you making a big move? The boys are adorable, as always!

Yeah! I'm so excited you have started! I was thinking of you and your new stroller. That baby is pretty big! Is it heavy?
I'm anxious to hear how things changed for the boys now that they are a few months older!

Subscribing. I found your last TR when you were almost finished, so I'm glad to join this one from the start. You are so brave to take two toddlers to Disney. We are excited to be going for our first trip in just two weeks, but my kids are older - 8 and 6.
