Ever cook in your hotel room?

I have never cooked in a regular hotel room because I've never had the equipment to do it. Here are my opinions on the topic.

I don't use the hotel coffeepots, but find it disturbing anyone would put anything other than water or coffee in them.

I don't care if the iron I use has touched tin foil. I would, however, be seriously "cheesed off" if the iron had cheese or other food residue on it.

I don't travel with kitchen appliances and don't really want to smell strong smelling meals coming out of people's rooms, but really have no big issues with people eating in their rooms. When I was at POP near Christmas there were several times we had food court food in our room.

I don't consider it somehow "wrong" to travel on a strict budget. We often eat breakfast in the room, and when on road trips we often carry a cooler and eat lunch at reststops. I don't see a big difference between this and what people who sometimes eat in their rooms are doing.

I have extended family who did not grow up in the US. They always carry food and would never consider eating every meal in a restaurant. I was missing them the other day when I noticed someone having an elaborate picnic in a local park. You rarely see people have a true "picnic" anymore.

That's cute! I'd rather use something like that anyway. Thanks for posting it. I'll have to look into one.

My post should have said "Closest" not "Furthest". I can't even think straight. I'm certainly can't be creative enough to be making meals in a hotel room. :lmao:

If I am to be blunt, frankly I'd rather go out for dinner any day of the week, so hell would basically have to freeze over before cooking when I'm actually on vacation. Please. :snooty:

I've (seriously) often wondered why some of the vacation cookers, don't just buy a microwave, for their room. I mean.... if you're gonna cook, which I wouldn't bother, but if you're gonna cook, get a device that's made to do so. :confused3 I mean, what are microwaves? $100, maybe? They must have a car, right? To get groceries? Or do they pack them?

This is weird. LOL!

One of the most disgusting thing I've read on the DIS was about women using coffee pots (the glass container for the hot water) as a laundry receptacle for hosiery. A number of people stated it was the perfect way to wash out their hose. I have never looked at those coffee pots the same since then.

Gross, gross, gross.

ETA- No. I haven't cooked in my hotel room. I haven't used any room appliance for cooking. And I wouldn't.

That was just unnecessary.

There are people that wear hose for fine dining and such.

I wasn't insulting you. I thought it was hilarious. You said it was the most disgusting thing you've ever read and that it was sick and gross. Sorry you took offense, really. I thought you were talking about a really old thread because it never occurred to me that there are still large numbers of people wearing pantyhose to formal events. I was just trying to be funny!

I've done the same - we just road tripped to Orlando last month & for the trip, I packed snacks, sandwiches, etc for lunches on the way down. I'm all for saving a buck. But I see a difference between doing that & making grilled cheese in your room with an iron. If nothing else, it's got to be filthy. That to me is very different from making PB&J in your room.

:lmao: The twist that coffee pot/hosiery took, has me in tears. OhhhhhMG! :thumbsup2

It was an old thread I was referring to.

Anyway, I do see your POV. Thanks. :hippie:

Wait! We aren't allowed to wear pantyhose anymore? Are we supposed to go bare legged? I need help.

We're DVC members and I don't even cook in those rooms. :lmao: Maybe if you're lucky I will toast you up a bagel otherwise the cook is on vacation....

Another DVC member here...:wave2:

I don't even make toast on vacation.

I don't iron either...so I guess if the previous occupants are making grilled cheese sandwiches with it:eek:, my family's wrinkled shirts will be fine.

If you have to make grilled cheese or a quesadilla with the iron in your room to save $5, you can't afford to be there.

Oh, and in addition to not washing me hose in the coffee pot, of course I don't cook in hotel rooms! I'm getting to the point that I wish my whole family could just hover over the room and never have to even touch anything, let alone make "shower soup."

I believe you are not supposed to wear hose anymore for any kind of fancy attire, but it's required for business attire with close-toed shoes.

Now, this generally sends me into a depressive spiral of doom come every summer, because my legs are so white I have actually brought down fighter jets when errant reflections off my skin blinded their pilots, but we must sacrifice to be beautiful.

If we're going down the road of hose vs. no hose (one of my dis favorites)..... I'll cast my vote once again for nice sheer hosiery over freaky orange oompa loompa legs anyday. People need to lay off the self-tanner. Seriously. It's gross.

As far as cooking in the room.... equally as gross. If you need to save money, make a dang sandwich.

Spittin' the truth, as my son would say.
