Ever been "upgraded"?

We received an incredible upgrade during our November 2010 trip.

We were going for my son's 5th birthday -- his first trip -- and I booked a Bay Lake-view room at the Contemporary with a 40% pin code. I did online check-in, no special requests or anything. While we were waiting in line at the on-line check-in desk, someone approached and asked our last name. I responded and another cast member nearby said, "Oh! I've been waiting for you. Come with me." She then told us we had been upgraded to a two-bedroom suite on the club level.

It was seriously insane. Two bedrooms, each the size of a standard room, with a huge open dining room/living room/kitchenette in between. There was also an entry foyer with another full bath off of it. We had four full balconies overlooking the lake & Spaceship Earth. It was holiday time, so there was even a full-size Christmas tree in the room! And, of course, all the amenities of club level.

It was truly amazing. We spent at least the first full hour there convinced that a mistake had been made, and that someone was going to come back and move us to a regular room. I think I checked the paperwork about 27 times. ;) I kid that Disney saw us as easy marks -- we live in Florida & have a young kid. They knew if they made our first trip a doozy, we'd be back. And they were right. We were totally spoiled, and now my husband will ONLY stay club level. @@

I gotta figure something like that will only happen to us once, though. But, man, was it good.

LoL..we are leaving for our honeymoon to WDW on Wed (our daughter is coming with us though). Not expecting it, didn't even know if they did it...but it would be sweeeet LOL.

In 2010, we reserved a water view room at Wilderness Room. When we checked in they upgraded us to a water view Club level room. When I asked why we got to do that, they said they did not have any more regular water view rooms available.....what luck!! It was a great stay!!

They definitely do it, just not to us. Still we are always so happy just to be at Disney that an upgrade seems unnecessary. I will take one though....

Does it happen? Yep. But not very often. My dh got an upgrade to concierge at YC once...but it was part of Year of a Million Dreams. His business associates weren't amused that he got an upgrade and they didn't. And of course, where was I?? Across the lake at BWV...of course he gets upgraded to concierge when I'm not with him.

People report being upgraded here all the time. But it just doesn't happen often enough to even think about. If you want an upgrade, be prepared to pay for it.

Back in 2007, which was our first trip there in 4 years. (We have now been back for 3/4 of the past years. Coincidence? I think not :thumbsup2

We had reservations at Pop Century. We were upgraded to Saratoga Springs Suite. It was great. <3

My parents were upgraded, not in Disney World, but at Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort. They booked a studio room and ended up being upgraded to a 2 bedroom. My mom was so excited, ever since then we always hope for an unexpected upgrade in Disney World.

Last winter we were upgraded at BWV from standard view to pool view. Might not sound like much but it was great to look out at the pool instead of the parking lot. We really appreciated it.

I was upgraded at AKV from a Standard View to a Savannah View. I was also "upgraded" from CBR to AKV and from POFQ to the Polynesian for a small charge when the moderate resorts were closed. I was also walked/upgraded from POR to SSR 1-Bedroom when POR was chocked full of free diners 2 years ago.

Aren't the suites great about spoiling you for regular? We have many stays under out belts and have been upgraded room category many times at deluxe properties, but in May of 2010 during the Memorial Day holiday we were also upgraded at the CR to the one bedroom suite. I had booked Atrium Club (12th floor) with a 40% pin code so the room was alrady down to about $249 a night for club. I was happy. Upon arrival I knew that the IPO would have someone waiting to greet us, but imagine our surprise when they told us that we were on the 14th floor. Double shock when we were led into the 1 bedroom suite. WIth four of us having the extra bath was wonderful, along with all of the extra room. Naturally now, the girls want to know why I'm not booking the suite at the GF!

Other upgrades were from standard view to water view every time at YC, once to garden view CL, and every time from garden view to lagoon/theme park view at the GF. Good luck!

This year we stayed at the Poly for 2 nights on New Years Eve. We were checking out to move over to POR for the first week of January with free dining. They upgraded us at the Poly desk, and told us we could just staying there for the entire week! It was wonderful!!

Our first trip with our girls was the summer of 2006. We booked the Yacht Club standard. When we arrived they siad that there was a convention in town and they had over booked so they had to move us. At first we were like "oh crap" until they told us they were moving us to Club level and that was totally amazing!!! We have gone every year since and no more upgrades. Like a previous poster said, I think they may do things like that on your first trip in hopes that you'll come again. The upgrades, when they happen, are fabulous, but even if they don't happen you are most certainly going to have an amazing trip.

In December 2007 at the Polynesian my family and I were upgraded from a Garden View - Club Level Room to a Lagoon View - Club Level Room.

We were upgraded at THE BEACH CLUB from a standard room to a Waterview Room at Concierge last year. It was a complete surprise--of course it was our Anniversary so that may have had something to do with it.

We were also upgraded at the Poly from a club level garden view to a club level lagoon view. It was such a nice surprise!!!

We booked a king POFQ room and when we checked in they told us we would be upgraded because they oversold the king rooms...their idea of an upgrade was a room at SSR but we didnt like that resort and asked for another deluxe but they wouldnt give us one so I asked for a queen bed POFQ room and that they would give us (with a refund for the difference)

we got upgraded this july from the pop to the saratog springs 1 bedroom villa. it was great.

Our first stay at CR we were upgraded. We had never stayed there before and we had booked thru a travel agent. She never told us that the resort had a garden area that was not located in the tower and that was where she booked us. When we found out it was too late to upgrade no tower rooms were available. We were disappointed but were happy to be going to Disney. When we checked in the CM told us we had been upgraded to a Bay Lake view in the tower. We were so excited & it made our vacation that much more incredible.
