Ever been "upgraded"?

I have been going every couple of years since 1978 and have never had an upgrade but then I am one of those people that things like that don't happen to. :)

Me too :sad1:

In 17 WDW trips and 4 DCL cruises, we've not had a sniff at an upgrade of any sort, not even a better room view.

I did kind of wonder if celebrating our actual 25th wedding anniversary on a DCL Alaska cruise this year would result in anything. Especially when it seemed from the DIS that even before the cruise several people were upgraded, including someone upgraded from a couple of categories lower than ours to one at least a category higher. But no, we still got exactly what we'd paid for.

We've never had any flight upgrades either.

I must've done something bad in a previous life! ;)

I like to read about other people's pixie dust experiences though, but have to admit to feeling a little envious at times. :guilty:

My mom and I stayed two nights at WL last year, the weekend before Halloween. We got a great deal on standard view rooms off Priceline, and for reasons we're still not certain of, we got bumped to a CL room with a courtyard view! It was awesome, especially since we probably paid less than half of what they normally cost.

I wish I could tell you what we did to deserve such great treatment. Alas, I think that one will remain a Disney mystery for years to come.

In May I got upgraded at AKL from a standard (parking lot) view room to a Savannah view room - amazing!

I would love, love, love to get an upgrade this trip. We are a family of five staying at POR. I know we are not going to be in the room a lot but it will be TIGHT with 5 people and luggage and all. My 10 year old son will have to sleep on the little bed because the girls want to sleep together. Luckily he is small for 10 (55 pounds).

I guess there is really no where to upgrade us at POR since they don't have suites, but I would take ANY other resort to give us more room!

In April we were upgraded from standard to inner courtyard at WL. It was a great surprise upgrade...but a first in ten trips!

I'm hoping for more pixie dust in November at AKL. :)

Yes, in Sept 2009 we recieved an email offer from Disney to upgrade from Allstar Music to Saratoga Springs in a studio for free. When we checked in we had a 1 bedroom villa. It was amazing. :goodvibes

We have been upgraded twice. First time was at AKL. I booked a pool room but when we got to our room all we could see outside was a tree. No view of anything but the tree right in front of our balcony. I went down to the front desk and asked for another room. They said there was no more rooms that day but if we can wait till tomorrow they would move us to a savannah room. I thanked them of course:goodvibes

Second time was Jan of this year. I requested a ground floor at POR due to the fact that 1 person in our party was using a scooter due to a medical condition. Upon check-in the lady showed us our room as being on the 2nd floor. When I informed her of why I needed the ground floor again she put us in a preferred bldg in the AB section on the ground floor.

As others have said, the thing is to never demand anything and always wish for but never expect an upgrade. The AKL trip was a pleasent surprise but I didn't demand the savannah view. Another pool view would have been fine too. The second time was nice too but again I didn't demand anything. Just talked nicely to the CM and explained why the ground floor was important.

The old saying holds true at disney as well as anywhere.

''you catch more bees with honey then with vinegar''

I also want to point out that these are the only times I've mentioned concerns about my room location in all the trips we've made

On our first trip we had carried all our stuff from the car with our kids and our keycard wouldn't work. There was a CM near by, but hers wouldn't work either. She went around the corner made a phone call and walked us to a Riverview room at POR. Our first room had a lovely view of the back of a staircase.

No upgrades for the next 3 trips, but we had some great room locations. The 70's building at Pop with an end room by the lake. It was quiet but not far to anything. Building 5 right across from the laundry room by the pool at POFQ. I wasn't thrilled with the view but it was a corner room and the location was fantastic. At WL we got our room request of upper floor inner courtyard view. My DS (now a tween) still talks about that view and how he loved to sit on the balcony at night to relax.

On my last trip with just DH we were upgraded from a standard at CSR to a deluxe water view room in 9B (very close to everything we needed).

I would love an upgrade to a moderate, but I know this is highly unlikely. But I will be in the happiest place with my kids at Christmas time. It will also be DD birthday on the 25 of December and mine will be the 28th. I love WDW it is certainly and upgrade from my daily life.

Nope. NEVER. Not even at POR once when the resort was practically empty. I'm always a little envious of those who do. Especially because I have two friends who ALWAYS get upgraded. I swear, the one just looks at the CM and they get one. They usually stay at AKL or GF.

We were upgraded at the Beach Club from a standard room to a King Room Club Level. When we made the reservation I only requested a King Bed. What a surprise when we walked to the front of the resort and there was a cast member waiting for us, and knew all our names. It was great.

Just back! We got two upgrades.
We had booked our first night at POFQ because our 40% code for the Poly wasn't in effect till the next day. We love POFQ so we were fine with that.

But when we checked in at POFQ they said we had been upgraded to Poly for the first night as well.

We had a garden view booked at the Poly, but when we got there, we had been upgraded to a Lagoon view in Tahiti. We could see the castle and Space mountain from our balcony, though we had to look around several palm trees. We could kind of see the fireworks from the balcony if we bent down and looked through the rail near the floor of the balcony. But the nicest surprise was being able to see the castle clearly while lying in bed. I was able to fall asleep watching the castle change colors.

It's so wonderful to read about these upgrades! Congratulations to all who have received free upgrades! :cool1:

I don't anticipate being upgraded during any of my visits. But... I can always wish for a little bit of pixie dust. :wizard: If it happens, hooray! If it doesn't, oh well. I don't think I will allow that to ruin my vacation at WDW!

In 2006 we were upgraded at CSR from a standard view room to a water view room...which, IMO doesn't make a difference at a mod b/c you don't have a balcony anyway so what view I have when leaving my room doesn't make a difference to me. That is the only upgrade we've ever gotten in WDW.

Our HM in Hawaii we got loads of upgrades though!

December 2010 we were booked to go to Pop for two weeks. There was a problem and Disney got their wires crossed and had given away both rooms for the first night of our stay (they had availability for the other 13, just not the first) and they upgraded both rooms to the Grand Floridian for two whole weeks!!!

We received an upgrade 2 years ago at the YC. We were booked in a standard room and we were given a first floor Water View and would the entire Boardwalk and Epcot :-) It was perfect for us because we were also right next the exit door to go outside!

On our first trip in 2009, we were upgraded from a standard room to preferred at check-in at AS Music. We were thrilled!
