I'm glad it went well for your DH at the funeral and it is good he is connecting with relatives. About 12 years ago my great uncle died. He died after a long battle of cancer. He had two children from two different women. He didn't know his older child that much because he didn't know about her existence until she was six month and the mother kept moving around because of nursing jobs and she didn't want to marry my uncle. My uncle was away at a police academy at the time of the pregnancy and he actually wanted to marry the mother. My uncle did support his daughter financially and he sent money every couple of months. When she was 18 he gave her large sum of money. My uncle only saw her a few times but she surprised us when she came to the funeral she got to know a lot of relatives including her half-brother better. Every situation is different and sometimes going could be a good thing.
