I saw a child of about 8 get hurt on Big Thunder Mountain. When the ride stopped with a jolt at the end of the ride, the child's head went forward and hit something. It happened so quickly, I didn't see what she hit...maybe the bar. What was disturbing was that the CM's seemed pretty unconcerned. The injured place on her head was red and swelling before she'd even left the unloading area. Dh and I unintentionally followed the family out of the ride area and back towards Main Street. The little girl and her family headed into the first aid station, and dh and I made our way out of the park. (The incident had just left me with a not so Disney-like feeling.) We had quite a wait for the ferry back to the WL; and, strangely enough, the same family boarded our boat at the last moment and sat next to us. We chatted, as people tend to do during these journeys. The mom of the little girl said that they had not been treated well at all at the first aid station. She reported that when she explained what had happened, the first response of the CM was that something like this COULDN'T happen on Big Thunder...basically calling the mother a liar. The mother said firmly that it did happen and she'd like some ice for the injury. The CM said that the only thing she could do for the little girl was to call the paramedic team and have her transported to the hospital!! The mom said "no, thank you" and ended up getting ice from a kind CM working one of the mister fan carts. By the time the family had boarded the boat with us, the lump on the girl's head was nearly as big as a golf ball...literally; but she seemed ok. We didn't see the family again, so I don't know if they ever addressed the issue with WDW. Personally, the experience left me with a very funny feeling. We saw the little girl get hurt, the lump rise on her forehead, and the lack of interest or responsibility of the CM's in the unloading area at Big Thunder. We also talked with the family and could tell within just a few moments that they were really nice people who didn't want to make trouble for anyone--not ambulance-chasers, if you will.
