Ever been hurt on a ride/attraction?

When we went to WDW in Nov '99, our then 6 DD wanted to ride RRC over and over again. When I came off, my back was in agony. Fortunately, I'm one of those crazy Mamas who always has packets of antiseptic, band-aids and ibuprofen which I was so glad I had. However, I know me and I'm sure I'll ride it again this Christmas when we go back!!! :cool1:

Not at WDW, but I have at other places.

Once at Kennywood when I was little, my dad took me on the Old Mill and told me to keep my hands in the boat. Well, I had to try to reach over the side and dip my hand in the water. My finger got smashed between the boat and the side of the building. I walked around the rest of the day with a smashed finger, holding back tears because I was afraid to tell them what I did for fear I'd get in trouble. My parents were of the "served you right" mentality.

Last year we went to Hilton Head to this fun place and they had a simulator ride inside. Some kind of haunted gold mine thing. The ride didn't work right, or it was just old and very jerky. Anyway, I did something to my hand and my entire hand went numb and I couldn't move my middle finger! I tried to get some first aid and nobody would help me (I just wanted ice). I finally had to go to Subway where they put some ice in a bag for me.

Once when a guy friend of mine and I had just arrived at the Boardwalk, we had just exited the boat and were walking down towards the main Boardwalk area. Some CM was selling those big balls on a string that you can throw or kick and it will come back to you. Why he would do that there with limited space, I still can't figure out! :confused3

Anyway, this guy and I were walking by and this little kid kicked the ball right into my path, hitting me right in the face and damaging my sun glasses. Her Dad just kind of smiled like some big idiot. The guy that I was with (pretty short in stature) walked up to Goliath and pretty much told him off! The guy just didn't get it. So instead of some sort of apology, he just stood there and smiled. What an idiot. I know the child did not mean to hit me, but it was just the stupidity of her Dad who had no manners to at least apologize.

So I looked at the CM selling the balls and said, "Well it is obvious this kid is not with parents who can be responsible so I would like for you to call security". The big galoot left real fast -- with his kid! :teeth:

My first ride on Dumbo, in MK and I was 4 years old. I'm not exactly sure what happened, but as the ride started, my mouth banged into the ride and my tooth cut my lip. Yes, this was after 45 min of waiting in line for that ride. I don't think I've been on it since.

I have never been hurt at WDW. But was at Universal so I will never go back again.

My DD pulled too hard trying to unlatch her seat belt on Star Tours. It flew up and hit her in the mouth, cutting her lip. It wasn't too bad, but bad enough to convince her Nana that she needed a face painting right away! Oh well, I guess that's what grandparents are for!

When I was 12, my family went to WDW together and I was mentally scarred for life when the IASW boats broke down in the middle of the ride, but the soundtrack did not. :scared1:

I still have nightmares...

I saw a child of about 8 get hurt on Big Thunder Mountain. When the ride stopped with a jolt at the end of the ride, the child's head went forward and hit something. It happened so quickly, I didn't see what she hit...maybe the bar. What was disturbing was that the CM's seemed pretty unconcerned. The injured place on her head was red and swelling before she'd even left the unloading area. Dh and I unintentionally followed the family out of the ride area and back towards Main Street. The little girl and her family headed into the first aid station, and dh and I made our way out of the park. (The incident had just left me with a not so Disney-like feeling.) We had quite a wait for the ferry back to the WL; and, strangely enough, the same family boarded our boat at the last moment and sat next to us. We chatted, as people tend to do during these journeys. The mom of the little girl said that they had not been treated well at all at the first aid station. She reported that when she explained what had happened, the first response of the CM was that something like this COULDN'T happen on Big Thunder...basically calling the mother a liar. The mother said firmly that it did happen and she'd like some ice for the injury. The CM said that the only thing she could do for the little girl was to call the paramedic team and have her transported to the hospital!! The mom said "no, thank you" and ended up getting ice from a kind CM working one of the mister fan carts. By the time the family had boarded the boat with us, the lump on the girl's head was nearly as big as a golf ball...literally; but she seemed ok. We didn't see the family again, so I don't know if they ever addressed the issue with WDW. Personally, the experience left me with a very funny feeling. We saw the little girl get hurt, the lump rise on her forehead, and the lack of interest or responsibility of the CM's in the unloading area at Big Thunder. We also talked with the family and could tell within just a few moments that they were really nice people who didn't want to make trouble for anyone--not ambulance-chasers, if you will.

I wasn't hurt but I had to help the idiot woman who fell off the dumbo ride. Her DH and her dd were in a dumbo car and the CM had already checked the ride. The idiot wife decided she wanted to ride with them and climbed the platform right by their car and tried to get in but apparently there was not enough room for the three of them. The cm did not see them and started the ride. The woman was trying to get out and as the ride started taking off, someone yelled for the CM to stop the ride, which she did, and it came down with a thunk - they weren't real high up yet. The idiot woman fell when the ride jerked to a stop. She cut her elbow and hurt her foot. I was standing there the whole time trying to help her; not only did she not even thank me for helping her but screamed at me because I didn't catch her stupid camera. THEN she proceeds to scream at the CM calling her all kinds of names. Security came and escorted her away. I hope they kicked her out. The CM was so shaken and upset that she was crying and another CM took over the ride. It was just unbelievable that someone could be so stupid to try to get on a ride that way. I felt so bad for the CM - she really thought it was her fault. Several witnesses (including myself) kept reassuring her and security that it wasn't her fault, it was the woman who climbed on the ride.

how about this, not really an injury, but a small twinge of pain, my hair got stuck on the top of a bolt/rivet thing on on the seat back of primevil whirl and I couldn't get it unstuck, it took a min for the cm to notice why I wasn't getting out of the ride, and ended up basically ripping out the hair, oh well, not too distressing, except I didn't exactly enjoy it, or the looks of the people who wanted in the car while I couldn't get out.

we were sitting on the curb near the train station when one of those bees that circle around got off track and just kept backing up and kept coming straight for DH until it backed up and "stung" him in the leg!!! :rotfl2:

and Im sitting there taping the whole thing and laughing :rotfl2:

he had glitter all over his leg :rotfl2:

good thing his not allergic to "bee stings" :sunny:

On our last Disney trip to OKW (pre-redone pool) my little sister smacked her head on the side of the pool. It was just as if someone was swimming and underestimated how close the wall was. Well I was reading a book and she gets out of the pool clutching her head and it only took me about two seconds to see the scarlett rushing through the cracks of her fingers. I ran to the drinks station and told them we had an emergency and needed first aid right away, which they came and everyone there assisted right away. The drinks station immediately gave me icey napkins to place on her head until the safety team got there. They came within five minutes and we were told she needed stitches. Disney even offered to take us to the hospital, but we drove and were leaving that day so we kindly declined. I think our experience with an "emergency" was wonderful at Disney. :thumbsup2

I hurt myself last year at IOA on the Dudley Do-right ride. The big plunge has that second dip at the very bottom and it is just a deceptively fast ride. I was trying to avoid water on my face and I leaned my head too far back as the log was going over the second bump and it just snapped my neck back completely. I remember staring straight up at the sky, straining my neck, unable to right my head because of the momentum of the boat. It scared the heck out of me and I was very shaken up after the ride. I didn't experience any lasting damage though....just alot of soreness.

Oh my goodness!! The same thing happened to me on that ride. I'll never ride it again!

I have to second that. My husband hits his knees EVERYTIME we ride Dinosaur at AK. The first time it happened it actually cut his knee pretty bad, it took a while (and a few bandaids) for the bleeding to stop. Ever since then he has been very careful while riding that.

Wow. When I saw the title of this thread, the first thing that came to mind is how I banged the bejeezus out of my knee when I rode Dinosaur this past August. :teeth:

Anyway, I did manage to survive, but I will be a tad more careful next time DW and I venture to DAK.

My son got slapped in the face by the dinosaur character's tail in AK. He had walked up behind him, and the dinosaur turned and it smacked him really good. He had a line on his cheek for two days!

He also hit his forehead on Splash Mountain, but it didn't bump up or anything.

Space Mountain hurts my back........so I have to push my feet into the floor to push my back up against the back of the seat during the whole ride.

Banged up my knee really good getting out of a doombuggy in December. Of course, if I have to injure myself it's on my favorite ride.

And I did once fall down the stairs at the Adventurers Club (before having any drinks...it had been raining and my shoes were wet). Did a good job on the knee then, too... twisted it. Fortunately I landed on my butt and not my head.

Forgot that I have a friend who did the same thing on the outside stairs in the rain, she got a scraped knee. The bartenders gave her some ice for it and she got teased by some of the cast about her boo boo.

Aug of 2004 my 6 year old son was playing on the Jurasic kids play area. He was jumping on the steps and fell backwards hitting his head. I didn't see it, but the other child he was playing with came and told me. He hot it hard enough to lose his memory. He was very upset. He didn't know where he was, who he was or what happened. It scared me. We called for an ambulence. THey took him to be x-ray'd. Universal sent a rep with us to the hospital. Thankfully he recovered later that day and there was not perm damage. I will still go to Universal. I'll just be extra careful in the play areas.

I got Pegged in the eye while riding Jurassic Park in Universal... Someone in the first row had on a baseball cap.. I was in the back row.. and sure enough, it took flight on the big drop and flew right back like a missle at me. The guy next to me had quick reflexes and reached up and grabbed it mid flight, unfortunately AFTER it had almost taken my eye out!! Those suckers hurt when they are travelling at such a high rate of speed!! It was all in the ride photo at the end.. So.. once again folks.. secure all loose articles and REMOVE YOUR HATS!! LOL!!! :rotfl2:

Kathy

Did this happen January 05? We were on the ride and a hat from the first row went flying and it was caught by the last row. In the pictures it was just flying past DS and I and we were in the 2nd to last row. I'm sorry you got smacked that way.
