I recently read a trip report where a family lost their teenage son for a few hours when he got mad and wandered off. It made me think back to my trip in early 2000 when I flew to Florida by myself and met up with a (not very good) friend from Orlando to tour the AK for the first time.
I'm wondering if anyone else has any stories like this to share. Maybe we can form a club!?
I found out as he was parking his car that my "friend" was not a big thrill ride lover. I'd read up on the AK and I knew that I would probably like (the original version of) Dinosaur best, so he told me I should go on it by myself and he would wait. I did, and it was AWESOME, and when I came out there was still no line, so I asked if he'd mind if I rode it again.
He didn't mind, so I did.
When I came out the 2nd time, I figured he was off checking out the animals in the surrounding foliage. I waited outside the Dino Institute for 45 minutes, but he never came back. At that point I decided since he wandered off, he would have to find ME! I rode Dinosaur a third time, and then I set off to explore the rest of the park.
I HAD A BLAST THAT DAY. Everything I wanted to do I did, as many times in a row as I wanted to. It was my itinerary at my pace. After about an hour of scanning the crowds for my friend, I decided to leave him a note on his windshield, so I got my handstamp and headed for the lot.
And yes, you guessed it, his car was gone.
I didn't really care, and I went back to the park and toured until closing time.
At closing time, I went to guest services and asked them if there were any buses to my off-site resort. Their answer was no, but when I told them what had happened and why I had no lift home, they called a taxi, PAID THE DRIVER, and sent me back to my hotel lickety split. I couldn't believe they would do that for me. (They must have thought I was more broken up than I really was...)
So that was my "ditched at Disney" story. Anyone have anything similar happen to them???
Jon
