Events that conspired to make me look like a witch at the drive-thru..

:scared1:

I agree fully with this. The order was not complicated at all... and doesn't seem THAT large. The girl was WAY out of line and I *would* complain. Perhaps a written complaint.

I agree, however her order wasn't large and complex. She asked for 4 double chocolates and then an assortment, plus 2 coffees. That isn't complex at all.

I would complain to the district manager for sure as that girl was out of line. She shouldn't be working there any longer as she can't deal with the public. I would have hated to see her response if it was a complex, demanding order! Sheesh.:headache:

I'm glad it was you and not me...she would have had one heck of a holiday having those donuts extracted from her...nevermind:rolleyes1

One of the ways I worked my way thru college was wearing the lovely Burger King orange and brown jockey hat at a drive thru.

Those of us on drive thru duty knew that the microphone system was not the best and tried very hard to speak clearly and to listen HARD to the person and confirm everything before moving along. And if there was a mistake, we just shrugged it off, apologized to the customer and moved along. And some customers were JERKS about it. But I don't ever recall feeling the need to say something like that so loud that the customer could hear it. (Yeah, we did say things, but it was in a whisper.) So I would call and speak to the manager.

i haven't read the other responses yet, but yes, please call the manager and let them know. they deserve to know if one of their employees is cursing at their customers. sorry you had to deal with that :sad2:

:rotfl: Didn't realize there are now rules for when it's appropriate to use the drive-thru. Last time I checked drive-thrus were a matter of convenience, and in any case requesting 4 donuts of a particular kind does not constitute a "complex" order.

I would have parked my car immediately and gone into the establishment to speak to a manager. It's ridiculous that you were cursed at for expecting this person to actually do their job.

If you plan on ever stopping at this store again in the near future I wouldn't complain in person. All too often the people who are working in some of these joints are only doing it as a requirement of their probation. They have no moral issue with giving you a little extra something in your food and drink.

Oh the horror stories I could tell

Hmmm, I managed a fast food restaurant and did personnel for a six store McD's franchise. In the three years between the two franchises, I NEVER had anyone who was working for me "as a requirement of their probation".

I agree with a previous poster, contact the unit manager. Give the store manager to satisfy this issue. As far as if you'd come to me with that complaint (I manage retail), I'd be disciplining the associate.

Go in and speak to the manager.

Explain what, where and when and bring your receipt. You know people do have bad days and sometimes speaker systems don't work, but, there are ways to handle this.

As for the probation comment, that was way out of line. For many, drive thru is their first job and this might be a educational experience more than anything else.

:rotfl: :rotfl2: "Oh, this job is so HARD!!" This had me laughing out loud! Makes one wonder how she makes it through life!

For some people a job at a fast food hamburger place is simply the only kind of job that they can handle for a multitude of different reasons. So perhaps that job is actually 'hard' for her.

I guess some folks think that anything beyond "I'll have a dozen doughnuts of any type you feel to give me" is a complicated order.

The reason so many fast food places have gone to combo deals is because that is the only thing their employees can figure out. Hit button 1 if the customer orders combo 1, button 2 for combo 2, etc.

Sometimes it is fun just to order by item or ask for no mayo (or some other request) just to watch the eyes of the person taking the order glaze over.

Haha.
That's either because your sixth sense told you not to hire them or they didn't tell you they were on probation. Well I guess you could live in the one place in Florida that the Fl. Dept. of Corrections P&P division doesn't use to help excons and probationers get back on their feet. They do have certain chain restaurants they use which is why you'll never see a police car at a Burger King around here.

This happened to me last week at our lovely Dunkin Donuts!! I ordered a dozen glazed only and a dozen assortment. I could not understand anything the order taker said in the machine, so I said, "I will pull up to the window since I can't understand you". I pulled up to the window and she said, "Why the hell did you pull up, I TOLD you we were all out of glazed and you didn't answer me, now I have to delete your order and you will have to drive back around to redo it." My DD was in the car with me and said, "why did she say a bad word mommy". I put the car in park and told her to get me the manager asap. She said, "she's in the back, busy." I was so jacked off. I turned the car off, grabbed my 5 year old and walked into the store, all the while leaving the car parked in the drive thru lane! (sorry for those behind me!). I walked in and she saw me coming and RAN to the back. I stood there and said to the cashier at the counter, "Please get me the manager right now." She went back and got her and came right out. I explained what happened and what she had said to me and cursed in front of my DD. She apologized profusely and guaranteed me it would never happen again. She also gave me 2 dozen donuts free and a few coupons for free donuts in the future. I told her that I would also be sending a letter to the corporate office.

Point of the story, do not take any crap from someone who is working in a public industry. Customer service should be #1 to them and if it isn't, they should be in a different business.

It's a matter of convenience for EVERYONE! Waiting 10 minutes behind someone who orders 8 meals one without ketchup, one with out onions, one with no pickles and one with extra pickles... is NOT convenient. I'm just saying, fast food restaurants are fast paced places for the most part and if you order a burger with no mayo or donuts with chocolate sprinkles, don't be surprised if you pull away and something isn't right. There isn't an unlimited amount of everything, if you're particular about donut types go in and see the selections then pick from those available. If you have special requests, it's best to go into the restaurant. Heck, if I worked at a donut place, the person standing in front of me would get those last 2 chocolate donuts before someone at the drive thru.

ETA: For all of you suggesting that she should have stopped her car in the drive thru to go in and complain, explain how trapping other customers behind her is going to make the world a better place???

I think I would have had to stop my car right there in the drive-thru and gone in. I would deff. go and talk to the manager, what she said to you is unacceptable...

Drive-thrus are for "1 large coffee please" or "I'll have a #5 combo please". And maybe someone in the store ordered the chocolate donuts before your order was filled.

Huh...Drive thrus are for ordering anything on the menu

All too often the people who are working in some of these joints are only doing it as a requirement of their probation.

What? Working fast food isn't like being ordered to do comunity service

I'd agree with you if it was an excessively picky order like you described above. However, I don't think a 4 donut request constitutes a drive-thru backlog. It's no different than if she'd only ordered 4 donuts in the first place. The worker filling the order is still reaching into the donut stash to pull out donuts either way.

Playing the devil's advocate, if you don't want drive-thru customers to order items the way you listed above, then they shouldn't be listed as an option on the drive-thru menu. Don't advertise "have it your way" if that's not an option, in other words.

Management should constantly be assessing the wait time at drive-thrus and if an order is causing a back up, then the car should be sent out of the drive-thru line to wait for their order to be filled. That's how it's always worked for me at any drive-thru I've been to.

Heck, if I worked at a donut place, the person standing in front of me would get those last 2 chocolate donuts before someone at the drive thru.

I hope you never get a job dealing with the public, or if you do, I doubt you'll last very long.

:thumbsup2 ::yes:: ITA

Side note: I'd be livid if I got stuck sitting in the drive thru so somebody ahead of me could go inside and complain about something. As a customer, if you are not treated with respect and have an issue like the OP did, it is absolutely your right to go in and complain. But, just because you've been disrespected doesn't give you the right to take it out on the uninvolved people in the line behind you.

I can almost guarantee that they don't have every flavor of donut and muffin listed on that drive thru menu.

K, that was just rude. I have in fact had jobs dealing with the public and I was good at it. People in the store, at my register would always get my attention first as they've made the effort to be there.

As a courtesy to others, if I have an excessively complicated order, I do go in to order as opposed to go going through the drive-thru. However, like PPs, I don't believe 4 chocolates and an assortment is all that complicated. No more complicated than me ordering a #4 combo without onions. ;)

OTOH, I do agree with your ETA. I would be beyond livid if I was in the drive-thru lane and a customer in front of me just stopped their car and went into the establishment. I don't care how upset you are, upsetting a line of uninvolved people behind you won't help matters any. I would at least pull into a parking space before I went inside to rip the nasty employee a new one. ;)

They might also be out of diet coke that day, but I'm not going to park my car and run in on the off chance that it might cause a 2 second delay at the drive-thru. My point was that if it's on the drive-thru menu as an option then it's fair game to be ordered in the drive-thru. Doesn't mean that it should be (if we lived in a world where people actually were considerate most of the time). Doesn't mean that the listed item won't be out of stock. Simply means that if it's advertised, then it's an option. I shouldn't have to go inside for an order unless it's something that's not available at the drive-thru (i.e. "special orders not available at drive-thru).

Someone orders an item off the menu that is unavailable. Employee says it's unavailable. Order is changed or not placed. End of story. This should not take an excessive amount of time.
