Events that conspired to make me look like a witch at the drive-thru..

Oh, wait. Now everyone will do that as an excuse to use the drive thru. :headache: Oh, how about you strap your wheelchair to the front of your car, then when you get to the window, they will see it and will be nice to you!!:thumbsup2
:lmao:

Didn't think about that one! :lmao: Sure would make getting it in and out of the car easier!

By the way to the OP, if I had been called those names, I WOULD have gone to the trouble to park and get out my wheelchair and go in. Heck, I would have been so mad I might have just hopped in on one foot and gone in! I guess that would have meant I was hopping mad?:confused3

Was this Tim Hortons? I would have gone in and spoken to a manager right away. They are huge on customer service. I've worked in one (and no...I'm not a delinquent, just needed a job and I liked the fast pace), there is nothing more annoying that the person who comes through the drive-thru and has a complicated or large order (which yours wasn't). They've usually got "times" that need to be met per hour in the drive-thru and large and complicated orders make the times hard to make since they want to get customers in and out FAST.

If you're ordering 6 ice-caps, 4 soup and sandwhich combos, 5 coffees (DD, TT, 1/2 cream, 1 and a 1/2 sugar, etc.) please come into the store if possible. Your order is not going to be ready for you when you pull up to pay and get your order and it's going to take awhile. Yes I realize that you can order anything you want in the drive-thru, but it's just nicer for everyone behind you to be quick.

Anyways OP, your order was fine and should call the store and speak with the manager.

I totally agree that the employee was beyond rude and you needed to let the manager know right then. However, I think you were rude to all the other customers who were behind you in the drive through line. Yes, go in and complain to the manager but only after you drive around and park your car. By leaving it in line you have now inconvienced all the innocent people behind you in the line. I would have been livid.
The DDonuts around here do have signs posted that for orders of more than 5 items or for a dozen donuts you must come inside.

Unless I misunderstood, the OP never went in to complain at all. You need to go back and reread her post. It was someone else who went in and complained. Before you call someone rude, you need to get your facts straight, unless you are the one being rude.

So I got told off this morning by the girl at the local drive-thru. Here's what happened.

I pulled up the the order thingy and her voice was so muffled/distorted that I could hardly understand her at first. This seemed to annoy her.

I ordered "a dozen donuts, 4 double-chocolate and the rest just whatever assortment you want." She replies that they only have 2 double-chocolate so I say "that is fine". I order coffees as well and pull ahead.

I check my donut order when she hands me the box and there are no double chocolate. Seems she thought "that is fine" meant, forget the double chocolate but to me it meant, fine give me the two you have. Okay no problem she gives me the donuts.

Then she gives me my change, including a 10-dollar-bill that is so mangled, folded and about 3/4 severed in half that I thought it would probably never be accepted at another store. So I asked if I could have another one. She gave it to me.

Then she shorted me a coffee, and when I pointed out that I was still waiting for one, she rolled her eyes and gave it to me.

Now I promise I was not snarky through any of this, I was not ticked off or acting mean or condescending or anything like that.

I smiled and wished her a Merry Christmas and as I left I heard her say, "Merry Christmas to you too, you ******* *****."

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

I think if you are so offended by someone asking for what they paid for in a kind and respectful way then you are not cut out for working with the public. I mean, I only wanted my dang donuts, my dang coffee, and a 10-dollar bill that doesn't look like an origami project gone terribly wrong.

Should I go in to the manager and report her, do you think? Was it my fault and I should cut her a break?

I am a nice person and have never been called something like that before (sisters-in-law and a DIS thread about the name Hunter don't count, lol)

This was the original post and no where in this post does it state that she left her car in the drive-through to go in and complain. It was another poster who did that.

I would have complained to the manager asap!

Speaking as someone who works in vocational rehab, all of my clients who are on probation or in Drug Court are required to have a job. Any legitimate job or they go to jail. The McDonalds, Car Pool, Jiffy Lube, etc near my office are filled with those workers. They are trying to turn their lives around and the restaurant industry is typically pretty leniant hiring those with felonies. And my clients would have never cursed at you :)

Just thanking everyone for their input!

Yes, smkiss02, this was Tim Horton's!!!!

I have decided to complain because the more I think about this person the more it bothers me. I thought there was a few little things that all combined might make her think I was difficult to please, but really, I don't think it was my fault.

On the drive-thru issue, I'm sorry but I think someone can order whatever they want in a drive-thru and they are no less worthy customers than people that walk in.

Anyway, I did not get the girl's name and I did not get a receipt. I wonder if that will have any impact on my complaint? I can certainly point her out though.

was this at a tim hortons? cuz now i'm craving their coffee and an old-fashioned cake donut.

if it was at dunkin, it would be coffee and a strawberry frosted.

yum

call and report it! i'd have been furious, especially if my kids were in the car.

OP - I think it;s great that you made a complaint, how about writing them a letter or going onto their website and sending a complaint email through that if you don't think your verbal complaint did anything? You had every right to complain b/c that person was completely wriong for saying that to you. I did that once for MCDonalds when I had bad customer service once. I sent it to their website and I got a reply back from their headquarters.

Also, I didn't realize that there are rules when using a drive thru, last I knew anyone could use them :confused3

For the record, at our Tim Horton's----every donut type IS INDEED listed at the drive thru menu (same at DD's). So, valid to order. I've been known to order specific TimBits at the window! The horror!!!

The other day, my sister and I went to Wendys. She ordered, got her food and went to the table. Before I could get my food, my sister came back up with her fries. They were cold. She asked for new fries. The cash register person walked over and picked up new fries for my sister. While at the fry station, she told the other girl "I told you not to give out those fries". Well, this ticked off the lady at the fry station. She picked up a thing of fries and literally threw them at my tray. Half of them went on the floor. I guess my eyes must of gotten huge because the cash register girl said something like "Pay no attention. She's just mad at me." About that time, the fry lady brought over another thing of fries for me. They were stone cold. I just said "Forget it", sat the fries back on the counter and walked away. Good grief. Heaven forbid these folks do their job.

OP, you should mention it to the manager. I should have mentioned my experience and, now, regret not doing so.

Anyone want to hear my drive through story??

Picture this, me (33 years old, 7 months pregnant) at the local MD drive through. After struggling with my 3 year old to use the potty, I rush off to MD to get the only thing my pregnant body felt it could eat, a sausage mcmuffin with egg. (I know I was pregnant, give me a break.)

Since it was close to 10:30 am I went in. There was a big line so I figured I would do drive through since the line wasn't long. I pull up and the kid at the drive through says I can't have breakfast (my clock said 10:30). I asked what the person in front got, breakfast, but I couldn't. :headache:

Well I was mad so I drove off with out getting anything.

I get home, fit to be tied. My DH suggests instead of yelling at him to call the place and talk to the manager. I do, and she was very understanding. My sob story of being pregnant and only wanting one thing and not being able to have it comes out.

She asked for my address and what I wanted. She insisited on brining it out to my house (and did, for free.) :cool1: :thumbsup2 I was pretty embarrassed to tell the truth, but it was sure yummy. I am pretty loyal to this place now. It isn't even the closest one to our house, but has the best service. It is funny, they make a pretty big deal over my DD's when we go there, but then again they are mighty cute and they do get special attention a lot it seems. :rolleyes1

So I got home delivery of McDonalds!

So OP, yes complain. That is unacceptable.

This has been an interesting read so far. Once again only the the Dis would the unwritten secret rules of using the drive through would come out and be debated.

I hate when people don't understand what a plain hamburger is: I always say a plain burger, nothing but the hamburger and the bun. I went to Sonic one time and the girl was like do you want cheese with that? I was polite and said no, I want a plain burger, nothing on it but the hamburger and the bun, which I had said earlier.
YOu know what she did? She gave me just the hamburger, no bun. I rolled back around and asked for the manager , the girl was laughing and said, oh i thought you meant just the hamburger. I told her I know I don't stutter and to give me what I paid for and then give my money back. So I got a fresher burger with bun and my money back.

Report her--I would have done so immediately. That is a firing offense, even if it's her first one. I would make it clear to the manager that I expected an apology from that employee, too. Or I'd be going over his/her head to report it to the company. Actually, I'd probably do that anyway.

This happened to me last week at our lovely Dunkin Donuts!! I ordered a dozen glazed only and a dozen assortment. I could not understand anything the order taker said in the machine, so I said, "I will pull up to the window since I can't understand you". I pulled up to the window and she said, "Why the hell did you pull up, I TOLD you we were all out of glazed and you didn't answer me, now I have to delete your order and you will have to drive back around to redo it." My DD was in the car with me and said, "why did she say a bad word mommy". I put the car in park and told her to get me the manager asap. She said, "she's in the back, busy." I was so jacked off. I turned the car off, grabbed my 5 year old and walked into the store, all the while leaving the car parked in the drive thru lane! (sorry for those behind me!). I walked in and she saw me coming and RAN to the back. I stood there and said to the cashier at the counter, "Please get me the manager right now." She went back and got her and came right out. I explained what happened and what she had said to me and cursed in front of my DD. She apologized profusely and guaranteed me it would never happen again. She also gave me 2 dozen donuts free and a few coupons for free donuts in the future. I told her that I would also be sending a letter to the corporate office.

Point of the story, do not take any crap from someone who is working in a public industry. Customer service should be #1 to them and if it isn't, they should be in a different business.

APPLAUSE!!!!!!!!! I would have done the very same thing, although I wouldn't have left my car in the drive-thru lane. But I can TOTALLY understand why you were so heated.:headache:

This has been an interesting read so far. Once again only the the Dis would the unwritten secret rules of using the drive through would come out and be debated.
 This really cracked me up!

OP: Definitely call the manager tomorrow.

:lmao: Ain't that the truth :thumbsup2

And you know that sausage McMuffin craving makes you gifted, and probably the child you were pregnant with too! ;)

The best way to avoid being annoyed at a coffee shop drive through is to go into the store if you have any special requests (ie 4 double chocolate donuts etc.) Now i'm not saying that the girl was justified in using the language my mind has filled into the blanks but I can imagine that the people in the drive thru behind you may have been thinking similar thoughts... Drive-thrus are for "1 large coffee please" or "I'll have a #5 combo please". And maybe someone in the store ordered the chocolate donuts before your order was filled.

So, if I'm on my way home from sitting in the doctor's office for two hours with two sleeping babies in the backseat who have just been diagnosed with strep throat, I can't go through a drive-thru and order what I want? I have to settle for the combo when I don't want a combo? Or I have to settle for a dozen plain donuts when I want a variety? Just so I can make it easier on the person working the drive-thru?

Yeah, don't think so!

Sorry. I had a rough afternoon yesterday. :lmao:

:lmao: Ain't that the truth :thumbsup2

And you know that sausage McMuffin craving makes you gifted, and probably the child you were pregnant with too! ;)

Well she is a cutie, and pretty darn bright too. :thumbsup2

The only thing I am gifted at is giving sob story to the McDonald's manager and having her take pity on me. ;)

NOW I know better what to do next time though. I will park and go in. I will have to get my wheelchair out of the back of the van. Then I will have to get my purse arranged on it and wheel myself to the ramp that is at the other end of the sidewalk from the door. Then I will navigate the bench and Newspaper boxes outside the door on the narrow sidewalk and pull the door open. Sorry I am so slow, I am a relatively new wheelchair user so I am still learning how to do all this.

Then I will get in and get up to the counter. Of course from my vantage point in the chair I find it difficult to see what is available, but thank God I made the effort to go in so I should be worth of the last French Cruellers tomorrow. Now to reverse the process to leave. My donut stop has taken me about 20 minutes. And I will probably be to tired to do my errand so I may as well just go on back home.

Yeah, but by the time you finally manage to make it inside, someone else will have zipped through the drive-through and gotten that last crueller anyway, since you were not able to be AT the counter, making a clear display of your effort to make it inside, before they got there! You just can't win!
