I can't believe the parents who put their 6 yo's to bed on a weekend at 8pm. My daughter would think I had 2 heads if I told her to go to bed that early. Plus with all the running around we do during the week, weekends are time spent with family and that also includes Friday nights.
To OP: DD , who is 6yo, BTW, was invlited to the kind of party you are having about a month ago and is invited to another one next Friday. Great idea, IMOP!

lol, my 6 year olds think it is a huge treat that they GET to stay up till 8pm on friday/saturday nights. usually they are in bed by 7:30.![]()
Wow we have grade school (K-5) that go later than 730 on school nights! The ice cream social for the kindergarten kids is 7-8 on a Wednesday night....

I prefer to keep my kids on their weekly schedule even on the weekend. they think nothing of it. Different strokes and all, KWIM? But we make exceptions for special occasions.
I try to get my 7 and 9 year olds to bed by 8 on weekends. As it is, I'm sometimes still waking them for school at 7:30 am. Ds12 gets to stay up until 9, and dd13 (almost 14) goes to bed by 9 during the week (her choice - she stays up on the weekends and sleeps until 11 am). As a SAHM, my kids had an 8 pm bedtime starting at 3 months of age. I needed my kid-free hours.
I never "put" DS15 to bed at that age, he would just GO to bed. He had a hard time staying up past 8:00 on any night, even as an infant. There were times he would walk down the hall to his room and lay down in the hall and fall asleep there because he couldn't make it to bed. At 6, we were in charge of the kids, the kids were not in charge of us (heck, even at 17 an 15 we are still in charge here).

My 11 year old goes to bed at 8 p.m. every night! Some kids need more sleep than others - we get up early! I can't believe the parents who let their kids, who are obviously exhausted, go to bed so late!
However, I would have no problem with the party, but my children would have needed an afternoon nap to make it that late.
