I wouldn't have had a "problem" with it but at 6 my now 15 year old DS couldn't stay up until 9:00 :lmao::lmao::lmao: We would have had him take a nap around 4:00 so he could go though.

I can't believe the parents who put their 6 yo's to bed on a weekend at 8pm. My daughter would think I had 2 heads if I told her to go to bed that early. Plus with all the running around we do during the week, weekends are time spent with family and that also includes Friday nights.

To OP: DD , who is 6yo, BTW, was invlited to the kind of party you are having about a month ago and is invited to another one next Friday. Great idea, IMOP!

I prefer to keep my kids on their weekly schedule even on the weekend. they think nothing of it. Different strokes and all, KWIM? But we make exceptions for special occasions.

I try to get my 7 and 9 year olds to bed by 8 on weekends. As it is, I'm sometimes still waking them for school at 7:30 am. Ds12 gets to stay up until 9, and dd13 (almost 14) goes to bed by 9 during the week (her choice - she stays up on the weekends and sleeps until 11 am). As a SAHM, my kids had an 8 pm bedtime starting at 3 months of age. I needed my kid-free hours.

I would be doing a happy dance if my child were to go. And even be happier that DH and I could have a date night dinner out.

Sounds like a great party. I'm not a stickler for bedtimes though. Never have been, never will be.

I never "put" DS15 to bed at that age, he would just GO to bed. He had a hard time staying up past 8:00 on any night, even as an infant. There were times he would walk down the hall to his room and lay down in the hall and fall asleep there because he couldn't make it to bed. At 6, we were in charge of the kids, the kids were not in charge of us (heck, even at 17 an 15 we are still in charge here).

My 11 year old goes to bed at 8 p.m. every night! Some kids need more sleep than others - we get up early! I can't believe the parents who let their kids, who are obviously exhausted, go to bed so late!

However, I would have no problem with the party, but my children would have needed an afternoon nap to make it that late.

Wow we have grade school (K-5) that go later than 730 on school nights! The ice cream social for the kindergarten kids is 7-8 on a Wednesday night....

that would have most likely been an exception to the rule, but I'm glad it wasn't even an issue. we just had our ice cream social last night, went 6-8, thankfully on a friday night, so no worries about dragging tired kids up for school the next day. and yep, mine would have been TIRED. so funny how different kids have different sleep needs. We have friends whose kids can stay up, and friends whose kids go to bed earlier than ours. I think the key is finding what works for your child and your family. :)

my eldest, now 8, stays up till 8 during the week just starting this feb. I'll tell you though when he was in k or 1st (I forget which) and cub scout info was starting to circulate in the school we didn't even put it in the running for possible after school activities because the meetings didn't start till 8pm on school nights. just doesn't work for our family. he would have been exhausted if he had even tried!

I understand what you mean but at 8pm in the summer the sun is still shining . My kids would never want to go to bed that early. Heck they are still running around the neighborhood at 8pm.

I hear ya. I get up for work at 4am .( 2 days a week) My kids have a strict bedtime during the week and DD (6) is still in bed by 9:30-10pm on the weekends. My kids get up easy in the morning. Shoot Ds (12) sets his own alarm. I realize all kids are not like this though.

No need to get bent out of shape Golfgal. My kids are not in charge of me. I just would not expect them to go to bed at 8pm when its still light out and all the neighborhood kids are still screaming and running around the neighborhood right outside their bedroom window.. DD (6) goes to bed at 8-8:30pm on school nights but on weekends and in the summer especially, she is up until 10. DS has a TV in his room so he'll usually go to bed with DD and just watch TV in his room.
Just because I let my kids stay up past 8pm doesn't mean I'm not in charge. Sheesh!

My kids are like their mother, we don't need alot of sleep. DH needs at least 8 hours a night or he is a bear. They get up at 7-7:30 for school, and usually there are early morning sports games on the weekends. But they know they can stay up later since its the weekend. In the summer all bets are off. I mean they aren't up until midnight but if there is a get together, which in our neighborhood is almost every weekend 10-11pm is not uncommon. And yes they are still up at 8am the next morning. :sad2:

I put yes, it's late. Mine would have been in bed about 7.30 at that age, and would have struggled to stay up till 9pm. And she'd have been in bed at 7.30, light or not, and yes a lot of the other kids were still calling for her after her bedtime, but that's when she went. She'd have gone but she would have been struggling and pretty miserable by the end.

Sounds like a great party! My dd's would love it...and with the pajama theme-- it makes sense to me!
