We are at HS in early September with extra magic hours until 11 pm. Is it necessary to use any FP? We do have Toy Story FP for 11:15 and Fantasmic lunch at 1:15. We plan to go back to the resort for a few hours during the afternoon and return for Fantasmic but even so it doesn't seem as though there is really a need for any FP since most of the attractions we want to go on are Tier 1 attractions or am I missing something?

FP is usually not available for EMH.
I mean for the whole day. I use Touring Plans and they have 30+ minutes gaps in between some attractions and they didn't even use the FP I have booked for Tower of Terror as they say it would cause longer wait times? I'm thinking I might just be better off to "go with the flow" that day since we have until 11 pm. It's been a few years since we've been to WDW but if I remember correctly back in the days pre-FP we had plenty of time to see and do everything at MGM Studios with time to spare. It doesn't seem like there are many new things since we were there and so I guess what I am asking is - is 14 hours (minus 3-4 hours in the afternoon) enough time to see and do most things at HS without using FP+?

Gotcha. Not sure I could spend 14 hours at HS but if you are doing everything then it might take that long. FPs don't cost you anything and and if you decide not to use one that's booked it's no biggie so why wouldn't you book them just in case you want to use them? The only time I wouldn't book FPs in a park is if I wanted them for another park.
