Even though the 2009 rates are not out yet...

Can you go ahead and reserve rooms? We are planning a large family trip for next May, and I wanted to go ahead and reserve the rooms.

Also, if we just make room reservations initially, can we upgrade them to a package at a later date?

Yes I have already booked for May 2009 for about 2 months now.

Have you checked into Magical Gatherings?

We will definitely look into the grand gatherings.....they sound like they are really nice.

Question... If I were to book for 2009 right now, in late April 2008, and prices increase at the turn of the year (January 1, 2009)... Do they take on the difference to my bill? Also- if I pay it in full in 2008, but the rates change January 1, 2009, do I now have a bill to pay off the difference in prices? I'm a little confused on how this would work exactly. Thank You!

The rates for 2009 are most likely going to be released in August sometime. Once they have been released, there is very little chance of them being changed. The "seasons" and rates usually don't change once they have been released.

The rate youre going to secure your room at is the peak rate. When the new rates come out they will adjust to whatever rate they fall into so youll likely pay less.

If you make a reservation now for 2009 you will need to make a one nights deposit. The deposit will be based on the 2008 peak rate for your resort. Once the real rates are released, disney will contact you to tell you what the real rate is for the resort. At the time you make the reservation you will be given a full price for your stay, but it is not the real amount. If you paid that off and then when the real rates come out it turns out that you owe more, you will need to pay that.

As others have mentioned, you may go ahead and book a room only reservation at peak rates that will be adjusted to the 2009 rates when they come out around august.

You will not be able to "upgrade" the room only reservation to a package. You will need to book a new package reservation when the rates come out and cancel your room only reservation.

I have done this 3 years in a row without a problem getting the rooms that I wanted.

You would be wise to book a room only to secure your room choice, just in case those are not available when the rates come out....however unlikely that may be.

Thank You- I was awfully confused on how exactly this works. The only policy I am really familiar with is that this year they changed the 'rule' about if the first day of your vacation was in value season, you no longer get value season rates for your whole stay. Wasn't sure about the rest of it... Thanks again!! :)

When I try to book a room only night (just 1 even!) it's telling me I can only reserve through 12-31-08. I've never had this problem before, but I admit I don't book through CRO often. Any thoughts? Do I have to call in? If so, that would be a bummer! I'd much rather see my options and rack prices online!

You have to call them to book 2009 dates. The rates they will give you are peak season rates for the room type. When rates come out in august they will adjust that down accordingly.
