I haven't seen this mentioned here and I know quite a few people use Canada as a thru-route for indirect flights, as well as those who might be planning Alaskan cruises so I thought I should post to let people know.

Effective 15th March 2016, visa-exempt foreign nationals who fly to or transit through Canada will require an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) is required. Details here

Thank goodness somebody mentioned it to me or I might have been in trouble as we are flying there on March 24th.

Thank you for the heads up, we are travelling through Calgary on route to LAX in July.
Still annoying we have to do it though :(

Not only is it annoying but it is far more complicated than the ESTA. Be prepared for it to take you a bit of time. I did our three last night and it took over an hour. All three were approved straight away though :)

Thought it had been posted but maybe it was on our cruise forum. Thankfully not required if arriving by ship, only if you fly in (unless this has changed since we last checked)

Yes only if arriving by air. Are you not boarding the ship in Canada then?
