My dd boyfriend is really sick. He has been to NYU student health center twice in the last 5 days....no actual dx..maybe or maybe not strep (no follow-up required). He is sicker tonight after being on amoxicillian for 2.5 days.

They have no local doctors as they are students. He doesn't live anywhere near home so heading home for a quick Dr. visit isn't an option. I spoke to a local Dr. friend and he said he should head to the ER.

Now the issue....what ER is the best choice. He lives near Gramercy Park.

Any suggestions would be very very much appreciated.

Great idea. I never would have thought of that as we don't have that type of care where I live. Have always been amazed that we don't but I forgot that they might exist is this case.

He could head over to NYU.

NYU Langone Medical Center – an institution consistently cited as one of America’s Best Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report.

He could head over to NYU.

I think after dealing with NYU residents or what ever level they are a the health center l I think they are leary to head to the NYU hospital.

I notice that you're not too far from me. We have several urgent care facilities (several Walgreens and CVS have them and there are also independent facilities). So, if you need one they are around us.

I travel into NYC for consults whenever something weird is going on and Columbia-Presbyterian related facilities & Drs have always been my first choice. do a search for ER facilities or call the main number and see what is closest, the best part about the ER is you het fast tracked to the best dr's if you are in serious trouble.

This one looks close to him I hope things go ok.

ER Attending Physicians oversee all care in an ER. I would not be worried about going there. In the event he has something serious he will have anything he could possibly need available right there.

My brother lives in the city and Columbia-Presbyterian is where he would go.

Having worked in a CVS pharmacy I really wouldn't consider heading there for treatment for an ongoing illness that might need labs and other care. i just don't consider them a Medical clinic in the term of full term care that you can find in many cities in the south. Thanks for the suggestion though.

As a follow-up, one thing I learned first-hand after my dd's disastrous first year in college: Student Health Services are horrible. Won't even get into the repeated mis-dx on my dd which almost killed her.

When we did follow-up care at home, her pediatrician told me how notoriously bad Student Health Services tend to be. In fact, a partner dr. was on her way to her ds' school the same weekend because of her distrust of the sytem. My next door neighbor's dd had to have knee surgery because of errors at the student Sports Medicine clinic at Chapel Hill. Have heard many similar stories from other parents with kids in college; doesn't matter where they go to school.

As a result, we have made sure our kids have a real doctor in a regular practice (and with continuity of care) that they can go to whan away at college.

Really hope your dd's boyfriend gets seen and is feeling better quicly.
