Ugh, An epic snow storm is predicted Friday into Saturday this weekend and I leave Sunday from BWI on Sunday late morning for my cruise on Monday on the Dream. I've been on the phone with insurance and the airline to see what their policies are. It's not looking good. They are predicting feet here in the mid Atlantic. Hopefully the runways will be clear come Sunday....>:(>:(>:(:furious:

Good Luck! Sometimes airlines will allow you to change your flight earlier maybe Friday before the storm, if that's possible for you. Stay in a hotel near airport for a day or two. Would hate to miss the cruise because of a delayed flight. I'm in NYC so waiting for it to hit me as well.

Honestly, I'd try to get out early before the storm hits. Even if it has passed by Sunday morning, there are going to be hundreds of passengers who were stranded from canceled flights prior to that. Weather can be finicky -- it could arrive earlier or later, last longer or be a dud. But with a trip on the line, I'd do whatever I can to get to my vacation.

(Apparently I need more coffee this morning...I first read this as leaving Sunday from the BoardWalk Inn and I couldn't figure out why you'd be upset about getting stuck there! :rotfl2:)

is it possible to pack up and drive to the port....leave a day early? maybe just drive to a "safe" airport and fly from there. I ALWAYS have a contingency plan when its an important trip....and it usually involves putting some miles on the vehicle

Leave early if you can take the time from work. My boss let me off a day early one year when the weather was predicting to be bad. Saved us the cruise. If you can, go south my friend. South to enjoy the cruise! Safe travels.

Check your airline and airport websites for the moment they start allowing fee-free changes. Get packed now. Arrange to leave earlier. Get hotel rooms thought about if you arrive early. Get prepared in every way and be ready to pounce if changes happen.*

Far better to get out early and spend a few bucks rather than miss out on a trip and have to redo it later, IMO.

*do NOT wait for the airline to contact you!!! You will be last in line if you let them contact you. Being proactive through the whole process will pay off.

All major carriers will have a fee free change option. We had this happen 2 years ago and got an extra 5 days on vacation. Start looking for hotels that you can book with free cancellations and just watch the airlines.

Heck--if it starts and stops when they are now saying (which could be all wrong of course) the runways might very well be cleared by Sunday.

But as has been said, there will be backups from Friday and Saturday to contend with---

Friday Unfortunately is not possible I work Friday Evening. Thought one day before would be good enough. Saturday will be worse and probably tons of cancellations. The good thing is I have 3 Major airports in my vicinity from BWI, Reagan and Dulles if need be. Jet Blue flies out of all 3. Fingers crossed that I won't have to do much and change anything.

Philadelphia is forecast to get a lot less than Baltimore. Maybe that could be a option for you. But a lot of times the weather is wrong maybe philly will get a lot worse.

From your location I'd consider driving down? Maybe leaving Friday after work and pounding a ton of caffeine? Not sure when the storm is supposed to start . . . .

I'd definitely want to get out of Dodge. This is a good reminder as I am currently booking flights from the West Coast for our cruise in December. I'm avoiding any connections through potentially snowy airports because we too are planning on flying in just one day before due to school conflicts. I'm looking at Atlanta - the chance of major snow is fairly unlikely there, I hope?

Hoping for the best for you!

they are saying Philly is going to get more than DC Baltimore area now... like 20 inches as opposed to 12 inches.. I am sorry OP this is a terrible scenario, I think I would drive down Thursday or take your chances with a flight leaving out on Sunday... the only prob is that if flights are cancelled on Saturday then that will trickle into the chaos on Sunday... ugh, so sorry about this... I am thinking it will be clear on Sunday for you though, fingers crossed

If I could change it I would. Can't change anything without a charge until they cancel flights. Right now it would be $60 change fee and the difference in price for flight which would be at least $200 pp. Not realistic if you ask me

Do you have trip insurance that will help you out if there are issues due to the storm? Although the price to change now is high, if you miss the cruise and don't have coverage that would be a much bigger loss!

If it's not an option to change now, the only thing you can really do is wait and see. Try to keep as close an eye out as possible for any delays or cancellations so you can be on the phone to move flights around ASAP when they are announced. You never know...all could be okay...we all know how quickly weather conditions can change.

Hoping it all works out...

Aby

I'm having heart palpitations just thinking of this. Hoping it all works out for you.
(Am currently researching my own options should this happen to me in March!).
