Epic Mickey - 10 day girls trip - Aug/Sept! *Updated 8/25 - 7 hours!!*

After Madalyn disrobed, we headed up to the Japan counter service. I had never been up there before – it’s sort of up from where the drummers perform – and across the way from Teppan Edo. There is a little bit of seating inside and a little outside.

I am not sure how they deal with summer crowds up there. Anyway, we got a shady table outside and I went in to get some food. Madalyn and I still were not hungry, but my bottom-less pit of a teenager was ready for a “real” meal! She decided that since she had never had sushi before, buying a plate of it was a good idea – and pairing that with some udon noodles would be even better. In case she didn’t care for the sushi. They have such a combo, so I indulged her.

She thought the sushi was okay. And loved the noodles. I had a few of the noodles, but they were really salty. And while Katie was eating, Madalyn found the need to make a wish on a coin to throw into the pond.

And then we were visited by a duck family! There was the momma duck and a bunch of ducklings. They were adorable as they waddled from table to table looking for scraps that had been dropped over the course of the day. And while I was attempting to get a photo. My camera stopped working. I took out the battery and put it back in. Managed to take a picture. And then I got a lens error notation. I took out the battery again. And then it seemed to work again. By now, the ducklings had moved on. And my Kodak moment had paddled away.

Next stop: Morocco. I would be hard pressed to name a favorite country. But I think that Morocco would be one of my top choices. I love the fountain at the entrance to the pavilion.

I love the shops. The alley ways that lead to more fountains.

fountaininMorocco.jpg

(Where my camera proceeded to die yet again. And I had to once again, take out the battery and see if that would reset it.) Mo Rockin’. Getting a henna tattoo. And the food. Oh, the food. Marrakesh is a favorite for table service. I always get the same thing – the lamb couscous. (And I am trying to work it into my girls trip in August!) And this trip we went to the Tangerine café. I think I got the shwarma platter. Katie was finally full, so Madalyn and I split this one. Madalyn ate most of my lamb. Katie discovered. And then devoured my hummus. None of us really cared for the cold couscous salad. So. Um. I really don’t think I got much of this dinner!

But that was okay, because I knew that we were heading to France for pastries! France is a favorite for my girls. Again. It’s the food. Let me explain. In the first few days of school, Madalyn’s class made these “all about me” pages. With things like their ages, family and pets, favorite subject, and favorite food. They were hanging in the hallway when we went to open house. I was standing there reading them. And Madalyn’s just made me laugh out loud. Why? Because of her favorite food. Some of the other kids put things like: mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, spaghetti, bacon. But Madalyn? Her choice for favorite food was escargots! And it was even spelled correctly. That’s my girl! She keeps trying to convince me to make a reservation in France for next week – just so she can go and get her own platter of escargots and not have to share. Maybe I can order her up a table for one!

Anyway, we bypassed the snails on this trip, and made a beeline right for the pastries. Madalyn got an éclair.

And Katie got my absolute favorite dessert in the world showcase – the strawberry tart.

eatingastrawberrytart.jpg

Devine! And this is high praise coming from me. I am firm believer that fruit and dessert do not belong in the same sentence together. It’s an oxymoron. Chocolate is dessert. But this tart? For this. I will make an exception!

Looking at the time – 7:45ish – it was time to head back to future world if we wanted to use our fast passes for test track and Soarin. We blew through England and Canada. I really wanted some fish and chips – but I was oh so full. Are there snacks of any kind to get in Canada??

We stopped to get our picture taken again.

infrontofSpaceshipEarth.jpg

And again. My camera dies. I play with it a bit and get this final photo before I decide not to mess with it again. (Leaving it to my engineering husband to mess with when we get home. He finds some post explaining how to deal with a lens error – and just cleans the contacts between the camera and the lens, and all appears to be working now. Knock wood!)

We headed over to Test Track. And then on our way to Soarin, we had to stop and ride Space Ship Earth. My girls just love this. I love it! We planned for the future. And then went back to my scooter so that we could quickly get to the Land. Except that we realized that the umbrella that Madalyn bought in China was no longer with us. She wasn’t sure if she left it with my scooter. Or left it on Test Track. Or in one of the vehicles parked outside. Or in a Spaceship earth vehicle. We went back to ask at Space Ship earth, but they hadn’t seen it.

We decided to go on over to Soarin – and then we’d check with guest services on our way out. We got to the ride right at 9pm – and we were the last ones through before they closed the ride! We soared over California – and then when we were done – because we were all the way over to the right – they let us ride again with the last group through! Very cool. Two times in a row!

So we meandered over to Guest services to check the lost and found – and it wasn’t there. Unfortunately, it wasn’t there the next two times that I called about it either. Oh well. We’ll see if Madalyn buys another to replace it. And if she can hang on to it this time!

Thus ends our Spring break surprise mini trip report.

Up next: We leave in THREE DAYS!!!!

Final plans for our first trip of the year
Massive changes in ADRs for the girls trip
Additional guests for the girls trip
And how many more trips should I plan this year?

Well, maybe you will have to abandon your family in August and pretend that you are on an all girls trip for an afternoon - and join us in a dress up session!:thumbsup2

I may just have to consider it!!!:goodvibes My DH would probably freak out!:rotfl:

When do you leave? We arrive the same day as you - Aug 26 - and Pixie Mama does not arrive until late on the 31st - are you still here on the 1st at all?? We should so plan a meet up if not an abandonment ;)

Ooooo, I like this idea!!!

Not that I would know from experience, but I have read that the Italy and Morocco pavilions are the most detailed and authentic.

And at the risk of becoming a broken record, I CANNOT WAIT TO EXPLORE THE WS WITHOUT KIDS!!!

:lmao:This is so me! I am always saying if it's not chocolate it's not dessert and I'm sorry, but Carrot Cake????Carrots??? Really. I don't think so. Even worse than fruit, veggies have no business outside of main and side dishes and apps. :rotfl:

As for a meet up, sadly, we leave on Sep 1 in the early am, probably getting picked up at the hotel by 7:30am. :sad2:

Two more Days!!!

:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

And they are moving quickly. I have managed to already pack for the girls. I have our grocery items ready. I have a hilarious amount of sunscreen. There is no way we are coming back from this vacation with a tan!

sunscreen.jpg

We are all set with ponchos. And I bought a lot of Disney gift cards when Kroger ran the special of buy a pack and get a $5 coupon off your next shopping order. I think this should cover our meals. I will be wearing my accounting hat to see how much we actually spend!

Today my mom and I got our nails done – and we got Mickey heads on our big toes.

I am taking all four girls to get theirs done tomorrow. Both friends are brining over their luggage in the evening so that we can get all packed up.

disneygirls.jpg

I just know that I am forgetting something. Or lots of somethings!

While we are gone, I might check in here, but I’ll be updating on facebook and posting pictures. If you would like, friend me on facebook and you can keep up with our mis-adventures (Katrina Slagle Harris). Be sure to tell me you are from the DIS so I don’t ignore the request.

Here is our tentative itinerary:

Sat – June 25 – leave 7:30 am – arrive at our villa between 3 and 4. Unload the cars – and then DH and I will leave all the girlies with my mom to swim in the pool while we go to the grocery to get the perishables. I MIGHT send my DH with the girls to Disney Quest tonight – but it will depend on time. And how tired we are.

Sun – June 26 – my scooter is being delivered at 8am – and then we will head out to a water park today. Not sure which one, but I am leaning towards Blizzard Beach. I am also planning to upgrade our tickets to APs today. We may spend the evening at DTD and maybe even a second visit to DQ.

Mon – June 27 – Epcot day. I am hoping that I can convince my family to be early risers so that we can make rope drop. We’ll probably spend the morning in FW and move to the WS for the afternoon so we can eat. I think today is the day I’ll be able to do my Dismeet with Erika (jeremydisneymom).

Tues – June 28 – Another water park day – we’ll head to Typhoon lagoon this time. Hopefully with tomorrow being an emh day for this park, it won’t be crazy crowded.

Wed – June 29 – Hollywood Studios. It will just be the 6 of us today as my mom is going to wait for our next go-round for HS. We HAVE to be there at rope drop today. I would like for us to do some things we’ve never done – like the Backlot tour. The friends that are coming with us are not roller coaster fans – but they both want to try RnR. I hope they LOVE it! Studios has an early close (I wonder why?) so it’s possible that DQ could be in the works for this evening.

Thurs – June 30 – Magic Kingdom. I can’t believe we aren’t getting over here until this day! I am not sure how wise of a choice this one is because it’s an am emh. But. Crowd wise, the ratings are really low – only a 4.4. I guess I can be a test case on how awful the proposition of going to an am emh when you are not onsite really is. Things I want to do here – Laugh Floor, Hall of Presidents, get a snack at the Main street bakery, see magic, memories and You (is that what it’s called??). I also want to get a glimpse of the new fantasyland construction.

Fri – July 1 – Another water park day. Or a day at our villa hanging out in the pool. Though I really do think we’ll end up at a water park even if it’s only half a day.

Sat – July 2 – Animal Kingdom. The crowd rating for this is the highest of the two weeks we are here. We’ll see if we stay the whole time. Today we are hoping to get my mom to go on Kali River Rapids, go to Rafiki’s planet watch, see Festival of the Lion King (we skipped it last time we were here) and Nemo (yippee for AC!). I personally could spend the whole day riding EE.

Sun – July 3 – Magic Kingdom. My mom is planning to sit this one out – so it’s just the six of us. I suppose we’ll do whatever favorites the girls have – or what we might have missed out on last time. I really am looking forward to seeing the fireworks tonight.

Mon – July 4 – Today we are staying at the villa and inviting all of my cousins who live in the area for a cook out. We are expecting about 30 people – should be just as crazed as going to a park! We are doing a lunch time cookout – so I am actually hoping they’ll all clear out by late afternoon.

Tues – July 5 – Hollywood Studios. My mom is coming with us this time – and we are planning to stay for Fantasmic tonight.

Wed – July 6 – water park day. Will probably let the girls decide which one to go to.

Thurs – July 7 – Epcot repeat. My mom is going with us to both Epcot days – it is the favorite park for the whole family.

Fri – July 8 – Animal Kingdom – maybe. We have 7 day tickets – so we’ll only do this if the girls want to go back – or we may pick another park entirely. Everyone will have to pay to upgrade their tickets – so it might depend on if the girls have money left! And sometime we have to pack!!

Sat – July 9 – head back to Georgia. I think that after two weeks, we might actually be okay with heading home. And knowing that we have several more trips in the works, the post vacation blues might actually be kept to a minimum.

I had read that about Morocco. And that everything has some sort of imperfection because only Allah is perfect. I will have to pay close attention to some of the detail in Italy next time.

Not a carrot cake fan here either! It's okay as long as there are no nuts or raisins in it. But, chocolate is where it's at. Except for that strawberry tart!!

I wish the 1st would have worked. Well. Darn. We'll have to see if you can meet up with me earlier in the week :thumbsup2

Oh, that stinks that she lost her cute umbrella!!!

It is getting so close!!! :cool1:

I know - soooo excited. And ya'll leave tomorrow! You'll have to look at my plans and let me know if we overlap anywhere else besides the 27th to do our meet up. Can't wait!!

sounds like a fun trip! Hope everyone enjoys it... I'm going to find you on facebook now :)

Thanks - we are all so excited. But quite a bit hesitant about the crowds and the heat. Thanks for finding me on FB!!

That is A LOT of sunscreen! :lmao:
Your trip sounds awesome. I'm super jealous!

Amanda

It is a lot! :lmao: But...for 7 people, two weeks, and a lot of water parks - part of me wonders if it is enough!! :lmao:

What a fun day in Epcot for you and the girls. They are so animated, and look like they enjoy it so much!

We always start with Mexico as well. Pot stickers, pastires in France, yummy. Everything is yummy! We love shopping in Japan. I wonder if my boys would be entertained watching me get dressed up too?

So my cats aren't the only ones that like to eat things? My boys just had to have those marionettes too, which of course never get played with. At least I've kept them away from the cats!

Have fun on your trip! Looks like you've got the sunscreen covered! We'll be on our way to the World as you are leaving.

It was a great day. And thanks for the compliments on the girls - we do like to have fun!

I wonder if Japan has a ninja dress up?? :lmao:

The cats - our cats are complete and total hooligans. I swear that they are like dogs. They eat shoes and blinds. They are constantly creating some sort of ruckus.

I am sorry that our trips don't overlap -- but we'll try to leave some pastries for ya!

I'm here and all caught up!

That's awesome that you have multiple trips planned! I'm so jealous! :goodvibes And that's awesome that you got a job out of it all, too! I've been saying for months now that I want to be a TA!

Yippee!! Thanks for reading!!

I am so excited about our trips - and crazed today with getting everything ready to leave tomorrow. I am loving the TA job - it's so fun to check out all the options.

You should absolutely round up friends for a girls trip - or you could always round up your computer friends for at least a meet-up!

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!! I can't believe you leave tomorrow for the 1st trip of your Year of Disney (echo... echo... echo...)

Me either! And I have sooooo much to do - and yet here I am! (Is this a good time to tell you that trip number four is in the works?? We are going right before Thanksgiving :banana:

We will be in the same parks on the 27th and 29th! What time/location is your dismeet with Erika? I forgot my LGMH. :sad1:

Well...we will need to meet up!! When I wrote up that itinerary I had not rechecked touring plans. They seem to change every day. I'll probably be checking again the nights before!

If you message me your cell number, we can text there and figure out a spot to meet up. That is what I am doing with Erika :thumbsup2

We are almost ready to load the car - I am overwhelmed by how much there still is to do - so I pretend it doesn't exist and I hang out on the dis! Is there a denial emoticon??:rotfl:

I am going to go back and catch up but first I just wanted to wish you a fabulous time!:cheer2:
