Epic Mickey - 10 day girls trip - Aug/Sept! *Updated 8/25 - 7 hours!!*

I'm back! The beach was great... I'm sure I'll tell you more about it soon. BUT. Here it is, 2:00 in the morning and I'm still awake. Checking my email. Catching up on PTRs. :surfweb:

The pics of M being a ham for the camera (and licking the plate) are CRACKING. ME. UP.

I can't wait to hear about the beach - call me sometime this week! But...I can't believe how late you are up. I hope you slept in this morning!

Madalyn is the queen of posing for the camera. And the plate licking - it was a fight between her and Katie over who got to lick the plate. I think they flipped a coin or something and Madalyn won. Crazy children. And the photo that cracks me up is the one of the girls in front of the Kraken ride at Sea World - the expressions on her face are hilarious.

I totally agree that we enjoy total immersion in Disney for our trips. When the kids are tall enough for WWoHP, I could see combining Universal and SeaWorld.
Great day at Epcot!!! Too funny about the squinting pics.

I have never been in the church in Norway. Will have to do that this trip. We have decided that we want to take our time in World Showcase this time and really explore the countries. It may take a while but heck, we have ten days! :rotfl2:

Isn't that bakery in Norway fabulous? We ate there last summer. The sandwiches are great. :thumbsup2

5 MORE DAYS:cheer2:

Love how much time you spent in Norway, we've at Akershus twice but I feel like we've never explored much in there except Maelstrom and the restauarnt. That dessert looked delicious, love your DD licking the plate:rotfl:

I have the same plan - I really want to explore the WS - but then we've never done Innoventions either. I was thinking that since we'd do 2 days in Epcot we could do one as a future world day and one as a WS day. But I know my kids would never go for not eating around the world. We'll have to see how it all pans out!

We love the bakery in Norway. But we've only gotten sweet stuff there - never sandwiches. Might have to try something different this time!

I am halfway between total excitement and panic about my 5 days! There is so much to do - but so much needs to be done later in the week. ACK!!

There is a lot to see in Norway. My girls always find cool things in that shop. We have the Viking helmet, sword, and shield here at the house. It's kinda funny to watch my younger one play dress up and wear this beautiful Greek American Girl princess dress - paired with her viking helmet and shield! :rotfl:

You will love Innoventions! It is one of our favorite parts of Epcot. Plan on spending some time in there.

Next stop: China.

It is an understatement, but the World Showcase is absolutely beautiful. The attention to detail. The artistry. I just love it.

The girls. Well, they always look forward to our visit to China so that they can play with the marionettes.

Madalynandapuppet.jpg

Madalyn naturally wanted to buy one – but I convinced her that this would be a bad idea because our cats would eat the strings. But once Madalyn got it into her head that she wanted to spend some money, there was no stopping her.

Apparently Katie decided that she needed to play with a marionette as well. And I just noticed that she has yet another hat on. How did I not notice when I was there? Oh. Wait. I know. Because I was trying to convert my spender into a saver.

We walked up, past the pond – and Madalyn found a booth selling umbrellas. She thought this would be the perfect fix to her sun issues. And they even wrote her name on it with Chinese characters.

To continue our journey of eating around the world, we decided to split two orders of pot stickers. And being a horrid disser – I didn’t take any pictures. Then again, they were probably consumed before I could even pull out my camera. That's my story. And I am sticking to it.

After leaving the restaurant, we went through the store, and then wandered around the pond where they have the Chinese zodiac symbols made out of natural materials stationed around the pond. I think these were out as part of the flower and garden festival – but I am not positive. Madalyn found her sign to pose by:

It’s quite apt!!

And as you can see…the umbrella really did work quite well.

Before we left China, we found a photopass guy who took a great picture of the girls and I. See! I really am on this vacation, too!

We found more cool topiaries on our way to Germany – and on our way out.

These are my only pictures from this country. We did stop to share a pretzel. And take a walk through the caramel shop. Oh. It smelled so good. But we managed to not buy anything. At least not this time. Though I hear that the caramel popcorn is a must.

Next stop: Italy. This is another country that I have really not explored. I have never been in one of the shops. Usually, we just walk right by. I am not sure why. (Maybe because my kids are in a rush to get to Japan?!) But this time, we had to continue eating. But Madalyn and I were quite full. And we needed a break from the hot sun – so we found a shady place to sit in the plaza (or is it a piazza??) and I gave Katie some money to get another snack.

While we were waiting, the Ziti Sisters arrived and pulled Madalyn into their routine!

She just loved it. And the Sisters were really funny. But their accents were more Greek than Italian. Katie finally joined us to watch the rest of the show while she enjoyed her cannoli.

After the sisters finished their show, we moved on to Japan. Madalyn really wanted a Kaki Gori – but was too full! And the girls were both sad that Miyuki does not do shows on Saturdays. So they decided to soothe themselves with a turn through the shop. We watched some people pick pearls. Looked at every. Single. Hello. Kitty. In the store. Checked out the Pokemon. And we finally made out way to the back of the store where they have all the kimonos.

If you have girls. I am about to tell you something that you might not know. It’s something that we discovered on one of our first trips – and now it’s a must do. And that is getting dressed up. That’s right. The Japanese ladies will completely deck you out. From Kimono. To the obi around your waist. To the parasol. To even putting your hair up with a Japanese style clip. And the ever important zori (more commonly known as the Japanese flip flop!). It’s very fun for the girls – and fun for me because I can take pictures – and it’s FREE!

Up next – What will we eat in Japan? And what happens when my camera DIES??

Forget the little girls - I get dressed up when I go to Japan!!! It's so much fun; I wish they would show me how they did the clip in my hair. I'll have to ask for a lesson next time.

I CANNOT WAIT TO TOUR THE WS WITHOUT KIDS!!!

Um, sorry for the shouty caps. But I am a tad excited. And at the same time, bummed that my girls are not like yours! Maybe when they're older they'll appreciate the WS more...

And what is Kaki Gori? It sounds familiar.

AND getting dressed up in Japan... how cool is that?!

Thanks to Google, I found out what kakigori is.

And I am so showing your posts to my girls... maybe seeing how much fun yours have when in Epcot will make them want to see all this stuff for themselves!

Good tip on dressing up in Japan. I didn't know that! We've started exploring WS more because of the Kim Possible missions.

I  that you get dressed up! How fun. For us, the hair thing was really just stuck in her hair. Here is a picture of the back of Katie's head from 2009 - and you can see what they did with her hair.

And Madalyn from 2009 all dressed up.

Have you ever bought any of the stuff?? I keep thinking about getting some for Madalyn because she loves to play dress up still. And she has International day at her school. Maybe if I could get her to commit to wearing it for Halloween too...

I am just excited to go with no kids at all. To not have to deal with their teen/tween hormones and needs. And demands. That is what I am excited about! WS has always been a favorite for them. They love to explore - and really, they love to eat!

Japan is their favorite because of the shopping. I bet your girls would love to explore in there. Do ya'll just blow by the countries to get to the rides??

Kaki Gori is good - but messy and sweet.

Do show your girls - because this is what mine chose to do when given a one park option. But I think that even a few years ago, they still would have picked Epcot over the other parks. You'll have to let me know if any part of it they might find enticing!

We love the Kim Possible missions, too. We didn't get to do one this time because of my demagnetized tickets and my complete lack of desire to seek out guest services. But, I don't think we would have had time anyway. Next week!!

How have I never heard about that in Japan? My DD would have loved that, any we spent so much time in Japan this year too! Going to have to put that on my list for next time!

Love all of the topiaries, really makes me want to go during the F&G show one year!

Isn't that awesome they dress you up in Japan and you don't even have to buy anything!!! I have 2 boys...Blah. :sad2: I need a girls only trip so I can do this. :) Pixiemama, I want to see pictures of you all dressed up in Japan when you get back from your girls trip!!!

Pretty much! My girls could spend all day at Epcot just on TT and Soarin' and be quite happy! Maybe on the next trip I can get them to be more interested in exploring {fingers crossed}

Isn't it amazing that you can go, and go, and go - and still find new things to do?! I am still shocked at the number of things we have never done. And I would have never known about dressing up in Japan if one of the women working there hadn't asked my girls if they wanted to dress up. I never even noticed anyone doing that. I was kinda sad that my oldest did not want to partake when we were there in April. I wonder if I could bully her and her friend to do it next week?! ;)

Well, maybe you will have to abandon your family in August and pretend that you are on an all girls trip for an afternoon - and join us in a dress up session!:thumbsup2

I will be crossing my fingers and toes for you! I think they would gave a great time with the exploring - the shops in all of the countries are fascinating.

When do you leave? We arrive the same day as you - Aug 26 - and Pixie Mama does not arrive until late on the 31st - are you still here on the 1st at all?? We should so plan a meet up if not an abandonment ;)
