This is our first time traveling with an epi pen. Do we need a Dr. note in order to bring it on the plane?

Thanks in advance

I traveled this summer with EPI pens for my son. I didn't have any problems at all. I did travel with them in the original box with the prescription sticker just in case. I kept them in my carry on.

We also travel with our son's epi pen. I don't think you will be the first person showing TSA the epi pen. Keeping the RX is a good idea but it doesn't have 4 oz of liquid and the needle is short by comparison.

Have a magical trip

We didn't bother with a doctor's note. Simply the original box with the sticker was adequate for all flights and embarking on a cruise.

We do have a note from the doctor. That reads it is OK for us to carry liquid benadryl and EPIPens in our carryon. TSA always says no we know all about EPIPens you are good.

However, I also always bring a full sealed bottle of benadryl with me which is always more than 3 oz. I also bring 6-10 EPI Pens as they can last for only 15-20 minutes and it can take up to an hour to get a plane to an emergency landing location. Clearly I would never use that many EPIPens but if a needle breaks or something happens I want to have them with me. Also I do not want to check my extras as the temperature in the baggage compartment is not truly regulated.

I was questioned once but said I have a prescription for it and he said if you have it in writing you can bring it on.

It is always better to be safe than sorry. Just my opinion!!

Have a great trip!!

DH has a note from his doctor explaining that the epipen is prescribed to combat a life-threatening allergy. We make sure the epi is in the original pharmacy container with its labels. We have only had to produce the doctor's note once, in a small Caribbean country where the border guard was clearly suspicious that it was some sort of illegal substance. You can't rely on everyone everywhere being familiar with it.

My DH is Type 1 diabetic. You would not believe the stuff we carry on between needles, insulin, sugary drink (in case of a low), his other medications, his insulin pump and related supplies etc. Especially the insulin pump (he wears a pod system) I always wonder about because it kind of looks like an explosive device but we have NEVER ONCE had an issue and we travel a lot. The TSA guys wave him through all the time and say they see that type of stuff constantly. I wouldn't worry about it.

My son travels with 2 epipens, a bottle of Benedryl (larger than 4 ounces), inhalers, albuterol for his nebulizer (plus a portable battery powered nebulizer). You don't need any doctor's note for the US or anything. Any medications are also exempt from the liquid limit rule.

Always carry ALL your medications on you! Also, if you have one carry on that is only meds, it cannot count against your carry on limit on planes (so if you have a cpap machine or something, to keep in mind). I put all our meds in one carry on bag for our trips.
