The long closed EC Eatery will reopen during the Food and wine festival as an Internet lounge.

If succsesful it may stay open permanently! Below is an exerpt from the WDW blog.

The new Odyssey Lounge opens, where guests can check in with friends and family back home, play games and surf the web while enjoying a specialty cocktail or a glass of wine or beer. There’s even a charging station for mobile phones and other electronic devices.

The whole story!

It would be about time for Epcot to emprace the internet and mobile devices... now that they are all older and not cutting edge... :)

Although The Odyssey stopped being a counter service restaurant some time in the 1990s, it's been in use ever since for private events and special events. For example, most years, the Epcot Food & Wine Festival has used the Odyssey Center in one capacity or another. Also, if you walk by it in the evening, you might see it used for a wedding, corporate event, or group meeting.

It seems to me that the Food & Wine Festival wants a place near World Showcase to sell high-profit beer, wine, and cocktails, even if the weather outside is hot or rainy.

I'm not sure why the news that Odyssey Center will be used by the Food & Wine Festival would suggest that "it may stay open permanently." The location of the facility, set back from the main paths because of large, watery sink hole, is not conducive to walk-in foot traffic. Odyssey Center seems to function best when people go there for a specific event.

I'm aware that it has been open for special events, and I said it might stay open not that it would.

I'd love for it to stay open. Of the beaten track so it hopefully wouldn't be too crazy. Nice to go in and enjoy a cocktail and cool off/avoid the rain.

I hope they don't think this part is compelling: "check in with friends and family back home, play games and surf the web".

It's the year 2011 and people carry this capability around in their pockets all day.

I wonder what the cost of the Disney WIFI will be there with your overpriced speciality drinks???????

Convenience for some.....just another dip into our wallets for others.

I have to admit....I wish they would find a fabulous purpose for this building. It's begging to be used for something worthwhile.

How about using this building as either in-park suites, or as VIP dining/viewing for Illuminations?

Odyssey Center serves a useful purpose as a facility for private functions and special events. And it probably turns a decent profit for Disney.

The structure is not suitable for lodging or practical for such a purpose.

I once attended an event at Odyssey Center that included VIP viewing for Illuminations. Around 8:45 p.m., we were escorted out of Odyssey Center to a roped-off area at the edge of World Showcase Lagoon. That's because Odyssey Center itself does not provide a good view of Illuminations.

No but I find charging stations for my phone compelling!
