As noted by the OP in a post above, there are 175 reasons why one might so choose.I cant think of one reason why you'd choose Epcot over Universal
I'll be the solo here, and say EPCOT.
At some point we'll visit The dark side with the kids, but quite honestly I'd never tour WDW and not visit all 4 parks...Unless of course I/we only had a day or 2 to spend.....
I agree. I would never choose a Universal park over any park at Disney.
But it depends on your family and what you're looking for. I can see some teens loving Universal instead or those who don't care about being immersed in theming. Personally I find Epcot to be one of the most interesting parks of the 4.
The Harry Potter theming is some of the best.
I'm not trying to turn anything into a Disney vs Universal because both are awesome, but the Harry Potter sections alone are IMO worth a trip in itself.
For those that haven't been to universal/ioa, it's a great trip to see another park
Universal 100%, we would choose that over Epcot and we don't even have children
I'm sure that they can determine that. Some report that even their small children had a great time at Universal. There are certainly plenty of kids in the parks when we go. But of course YMMV.That doesn't answer the OP's question at all, does it? They have children! What if the kids are too small to enjoy most of the attractions there?

Here's my scorecard:There's more things to do in universal for young kids vs Epcot.
Right, but you just said it.....You don't have kids......They have 2 little ones....a lot of theming is lost on them, and a lot of the rides they may not make the height req. Yes there is a ton of over stuff there, but to each his/her own. It's a lot of EXTRA $$ to spend on only some parts of that park, as opposed to adding an extra day at Disney...Universal 100%, we would choose that over Epcot and we don't even have children
Wow...This seems like a clear 12 round Split decision...LoLHere's my scorecard:
If you have young kids-Universal wins.
If you have tweens-Universal win.
If you have teens-Universal wins.
If you have no kids-The parks are so vastly different in focus that there can never be a winner. Personal preference will dictate the outcome.
But of course, finances will come into play. A single day jaunt up I-4 is expensive.
