Hi
Last year DD8 and I did that! It was about 15.00 to pick a pearl. It is at the Mitsukoshi Department store a little past Pokemon and Hello Kitty Souveniers. So DD and I both picked ones, I think 6 and 8 mm? The expensive part is the mounting on jewelry, but you don't have to do that there. DD and I both did, I spent a lot in that store between those and the kimonos, but that is just me. I had mine mounted on a ring and my DD has hers on a necklace pendant.
We both picked big ones so they beat the drum and clapped, it was fun. They make nice souveniers.
Have a great time!

I heard about this not long before our 1st trip. On that trip, I started a tradition of buying both my wife and my daughter a 'pick' in the oyster pool. Then, we always get them set into something pretty. It is (as previous poster said) about $15 - then you can have them set in settings from very inexpensive to rather expensive. It's a lot of fun!

SIL did this on her honeymoon. She actually got a rather large pearl (in fact the CM told her it was the largest he had seen!) She did end up buying a rather nice ring setting for it because it was such a nice pearl and it has been her favorite "souvenir" from that trip. In fact, she is planning to do it again this trip (which is one week before her and my brother's 10 year anniversary!) I am going to let DD5 (will be 6) do it, too. I think it would be a great souvenir for her to grow up with!

hi

last year i picked a pearl at epcot , it was really good fun, think it cost around 15 dollars, i had read before on here to pick the ugliest shell you can find , i did and i got quite a large pearl, cant remember the size but it was a lovely colour and the girls clapped and cheered and banged a drum . it was so cool , i got mine set into a lovely necklace with a chain total cost was aroung 100 dollars. i would do it again .

have fun , though remember you dont have to get it set on anything if you dont want to.

whilst you are there check out the times for the lady who does the beautiful candy art outside the store, think her name is Muyiki or Miyuki something like that but she creates the most beautiful candy sculptures, if you time it right you can pick your pearl and choose the setting then go and watch Miyuki whilst you are waiting for your jewellery.

I had a couple of pearls from Epcot from previous years that I had never had set into jewelry, mostly because I wanted earrings and none of them were the same size or color! I brought them with me last week, and DD and I both bought another oyster. She got a gorgeous black pearl, so tried again and got a white one exactly the same size. She had them made into a stunning ring. I managed to get one that matched one of my old pearls, so I got my earrings, then had another old pearl made into a pendent. The settings were not cheap, but we were very happy with them!:cool1:
I still have one large pink and one small pearl with a golden cast left over for future settings!

My DDs birthday is in June so this was a must for us and will be every year so she can build her own pearl necklace. She picked a large one and got to bang the drum. I picked a gold setting called the basket, which doesn't do any damage to the pearl jsut puts it into a delicate basket and my mil got her a lovely chain for it. It was probably $60 total, but when we got home I priced it and it was about the same here in MA.

To think of all the times we went before and never did it, I kick myself.

We had done this in Hawaii before so my mom wanted my dd to get one of her own (she's 10 mos, lol, and we did ours at DTD). She got a very nice one and we did not mount it since mom has close friends who own a jewelry store and give her discounts. :thumbsup2

I think we spent over an hour in the Japan store watching the guests pick the oysters from the tank... My DD (9) decided this is something she wanted to spend her money on - so she picked an oyster - and it happened to have a nice sized "silver" pearl. Evidently it was pretty rare - she was very excited - we offered to have it set for her - but she said she didn't really like jewelry (which is true) - so she bought one of the little Japanese containers in the back of the store - and she keeps her special pearl in there.

We just booked a trip for December (08) and watched the Travel Channel Disney marathon yesterday - DD's list of things to do - Hoop De Doo, Sci-Fi, Rock n Roller Coaster and the "pearl thing".

It's fun! Try your hand for sure!
