EPCOT on August 15th!!

22 April 2003: Disney have officially announced that the opening date for Mission Space is August 15 2003!

I know where I will be then!!!

I had heard that this is a soft opening and the official opening is sometime in October - what does a soft opening mean? Is it only open that date?

August 15 is a soft opening, which means no guarantees. Basically, this is the time that they try to work out the kinks in the system. This means that the ride could shut down with no notice or maybe be down for days at a time, FastPass may or may not be working. The OFFICIAL opening is in October.
