Epcot moonlight magic February registration

In other words, it's random as they said it was ... which is as fair as it can be, I suppose.
Maybe I read things differently than you, but the trend I am am seeing is of you click 1 or more before you got a 16-20 min wait time for most. Those who clicked 1 hour an under got closer to 10 minutes or less. We can agree to disagree if it matters or not.

It might also have to do with the refresh timing rate.

Like if it refreshes to the server every 15 seconds, then someone refreshed at 10:59;51 will be better off than someone last refreshed at 10:59:59? And Im nit sure if/how to control something like that.

That’s seems to be why my phone put me 1 minute ahead of my computer. It stuck to my original Que time but just refreshed different speeds.

I see at least two posts above you that disprove that, so I'm not sure there is an actual trend. I really believe it is random. While I see DVC would have some incentive to lie about that (to keep people from trying to game it), it's also very easy to code randomness into a web app like this. So there's really no need for them to gamify it. I really think they want it to be as fair as possible to as many members as possible, that's why they've made it so all devices using the same member ID get the same queue #, members can only attempt to register for one MM event per season, etc.

It’s not a good when people order more tickets than they need just to give away.

That reminds me of the people who stop the natural flow of traffic to let someone out - when the traffic would’ve cleared in another 1.5 seconds anyway. They get their little hit of altruist dopamine without realizing all the negatives involved.

I wish they would actually give an advantage according to how long ago your qualifying reservation was made. So members that booked right at the 11 month window and 7 month window and then MM happened to be during their trip would have an advantage over members who booked reservations after MM was announced solely hoping for a MM spot. Those members IMO should have to wait until general registration

I agree and have thought about this. Maybe they sometimes use the dates to shift demand though?

I clicked the link on my phone the night before then came online ten minutes before queue opened and got a 6 minute wait.

I don’t see why it would be anything but a randomly assigned queue number. It would require substantially more hours of labour for the developers to figure out IF ELSE logic to determine placement based on some weird specific criteria for when users click the link instead of just randomly assigning numbers. I don’t know that there’s a value proposition for that extra labour from a Disney business perspective.

I will also offer a hot take that I do appreciate at least some of the Vloggers getting tickets. I totally understand and agree that it’s not fair, but I also like being able to get a realistic understanding of what to expect from the event and I don’t always find written trip reports hit the mark. But again, it’s not fair that people can decide to max out their tickets for the sake of an in with influencers— if Disney restricted filming of the event I’d be in support of that too.

I'm curious if the initial wait times are handed out randomly or if there is any correlation between when you joined the waiting room and what your initial wait time was. I joined the waiting room 15 minutes ahead of time and got an initial wait time of 21 minutes. Did anyone who joined the waiting room after that get earlier wait times, or anyone who joined the waiting room very early get long wait times?
I jumped in 8 minutes before it opened and got a 5 minute wait time.

Making it random makes more sense to me than someone joining the waiting room hours ahead of time being at the end of the line.

I don’t think they go to the end of the line but I don’t think they go ahead of everyone who joins right at 11 am.

I think at 11:00 am everyone gets randomized and then once all the pre 11 am and 11 am people have spots, then it goes to the end of the line process.

Yes that's what the waiting room page says happens and I see no reason to think anything else happens.

It's supposed to be entirely random. No matter when you join the waiting room, everyone is assigned a random position in queue when registration opens.

It's not nearly as fair as it can be. If they actually want it to be, they should accept a form for sign-ups ahead of time from everyone who is interested in going, and then pull from that list via lottery, rather than make everyone clear their schedules and stare at a screen, praying they get a spot, then clicking as fast as humanly possible to fill out a form, just to be told it's full. Screw that noise. There are tons of people who simply have no chance at tickets because they aren't able to enter the virtual queue because they can't get off of work, or have an emergency, or are on vacation, etc.

They should also assign the tickets to the names of the individuals registered on the reservation, and subsequently adjust the number of and name on tickets based on whether that reservation is subsequently modified, meaning only those actually staying in the room are allowed to attend the event.

Disney could do a lot better at this, and they should. I applaud them for at least closing the multi-device exploit in queue-it, though. Baby steps I guess.

No matter what they do somebody will be pissed. You can please some of the people some of the time. They could do nothing at all like most timeshares with the attitude of "we've already got your money"

True but to say it's "fair" is well clear of correct. I'm not trying to solve everyone's problems or make everyone happy, but I do contend the process could be a lot more fair.

What you described is a different way of registration, but it's not any more fair really. What if I'm asleep when your form opens up for your random lottery, or on vacation or have an emergency?

They don't require members list the names of attendees ahead of time or during registration, but if you think that would be more fair - then feel free to suggest that to DVC. I don't really see why it makes a difference. If I register and have a grand villa that sleeps 12, why does it matter who I bring with me? Either way, 12 people will be there. Are you suggesting that members should only be allowed to bring as many people as the room they've booked accommodates - so someone in a tower studio for example could only bring 2? That might allow a few more members to register I guess. But no matter what they do, demand will exceed supply and there will be posts after every registration *****ing about it not being "fair".

If the sign-up was corrected to something more fair than the 11am weekday VQ, a list of arguably unfair things still remain. Should a 7 day stay get priority over a 1 night stay? Should someone attending MM this trip have less priority next time than another who did not? Should someone who exceeded x number of tickets on y number of points be limited until others who did not pass that threshold catch up?

It gets tricky. I’m in favor of DVC trying to make things more fair. It seems adjustments made in recent years have helped and I wouldn’t mind if they took it further. But I’m also thinking they don’t intend on ever making it perfectly fair. Perks are enticements meant to herd cats thru hoops lol. They may try to correct the more blatantly unfair but there’ll always be some degree of uneven distribution.

We will try for the April HS MM. I’m preparing myself to accept a runner up prize - MK EEH that night while we’re staying VGF to help take the sting out. Because while it would suck not getting MM, I don’t want it making me salty 😅
