Epcot - Kidcot, Agent P

Can someone explain both Agent P, and Kidcot to me, as I'm trying to find out which one DD might like better when we're there.

Or, is it super time consuming to do both?

From what I read, kidcot, do you just color the same bear at every station?

Kidcot gives you a cutout and you carry it through the countries, stopping to color at whatever countries you feel like. You can choose to stop as many times as you like or as few times as you like. I am not sure what the cutout is now. It has been different things thru the years.

Agent P is a lot if fun. You get a cell phone and Major Monogram gives you clues of places to look for and things to find. You pick a country to do it in and it takes a little less then 30 minutes to do one mission. You can do more than one if you want to. It is really cute and definitely worth doing. Germany is one of my favorites. I enjoy doing it with my boys.

So for Agent P, do you pick up a cell phone before heading out to WS and have it with you the whole time? And then do it in the countries you want to? So it's 30 minutes per country that you do?

I'm guessing Kidcot is less time consuming overall? Or does it depend on how many Agent P missions you do?

We had a great time doing Agent P with our DS5 and DD4 last year! We did 2 missions, and thought it was a great way to explore Epcot with them. We did have to help them, since my 5 year old wasn't a super proficient reader at the time. There is a Kiosk where you pick up the phone as you cross over into WS.

The Kidcot station doesn't have multiple crafts. It's only one thing that you do. Using Sharpies (they're the sponsor), you color a Duffy bear that's attached to a wooden handle. The CM will stamp on the back or the handle a Mickey stamp that represents his/her country. They will often write your child's name in their language as well. It's a great way to get the little ones to tour the countries & interact more with the CMs. You can color as long as you want at one station, and when you stop you resume at the next country. It makes a great souvenir. My girls have always loved it!

My girls also enjoy Agent P. You can choose a country as long as it is available. We really like Germany. You can keep the communicator after your mission & do another country, or you can turn it in.

If you're choosing between the two, I would choose the Kidcot. Hopefully, you'll be able to do both.

DD(6) is a pretty good reader, so it's good to know that will help.

DD loves art, and loves taking her time at perfecting her art, so I worry that she'll be taking 30 minutes to color each one - ha.

Yes, same Duffy,they just continue coloring a little more each time. We have had times where it was hard to get my girls to break away from coloring. It also gave them something to look forward to when visiting another country pavilion though.

When you sign up for Agent P (there's a kiosk before entering World Showcase, one near the Norway pavilion, and one near France), they will assign you a country or you can request one then. I can't remember after you complete your first mission if it randomly assigns you another country or if you can choose.

The passport might have a picture of Duffy; I can't remember. You buy the passport once, and then get each page stamped and/or signed at each country. We did it when DS was 6 to avoid hours of coloring

I got a Kidcot Duffy Bear stamped all around the World (being the big kid I am)... but didn't colour him until I got home (I'm fussy about my felt tip pens!! ) Maybe took us 5 minutes in each country to find the station and get it stamped/signed, and the colouring in was a nice task when I got home to make me smile. He's a nice souvenir too!

The coloring takes ten minutes and it can be a nice sensory break for the kids.

Thank you for asking these questions. A friend told me about Agent P and the passports, but I wasn't 100% on how it all worked. I think my kids will love both of these at Epcot!

Each Perry mission takes about 20-30 minutes. When you stop to get the phone controller the CM will give you a choice of countries. Unless it has changed, you have to get it re activated each time you go to a different country (you can't just keep going).

We did one while grandparents napped on a bench but that was enough for my then 5 year old.

That said, he's always loved coloring the Duffy and then visiting the kit to stations to get them stamped. He usually colors in country number 1 and then just gets it stamped in the other ones.

We do kidcot while we walk around WS. You carry and color the same Duffy on a stick. You don't get a new one at every stop. My kids like to color the whole thing at the first station and then just get the stamp & signature at the remaining stops. If you complete it, tell the CM at your last stop and they will give the child a certificate. We have done ours over 2 evenings. Both of my kids still have theirs from our last trip in 2011.

The passport can be purchased for around $10 at the store right as you enter WS (the shop right across from where Duffy bear's meet-n-greet is). While the passport doesn't involve Duffy, the CMs fill it out by signing a brief message and stamping the Mickey stamp at the same table that the coloring occurs with the Duffy bear. If you don't want to do the Duffy bear, you probably don't want to do the passport. Your child will see the other children coloring Duffys each time you go to the stations to have the passport filled out. With the Duffy bear, you could choose how many country pavilions she can go to to color which would allow you to control the time. However, with the passport you would want to visit every pavilion in order to have it fully completed. You will have to wait in line, if there is one, behind other kids getting their Duffy stamped so you may find that your little one has time to color a bear while she waits. My girls do both and they love them. We think it's a great way to tour the countries and interact with the CMs more. You really have to allocate time for it though. One isn't faster than the other in my opinion.

The thing that makes Kidcot special is not just getting the global stamps from each country. My kids generally love it (even though they only color once and get stamps at every other country) because they get a chance to talk to the kids (young adults) from every country. They ask them questions about their favorite foods there, what they think of life in the US, what kids do for fun, etc. Often the students are really bored just having kids color and they really light up when people interact with them.

So I guess I don't really understand the concern about it being time consuming. I tend to think it is a waste of Epcot time to NOT interact with the representatives from other countries.
