***Epcot Food And Wine Festival Info 2008***

I see everyone talking about great food festivals around the country and thank you all for some great ideas!
Jason and I went to the Wine Spectator Grand Tour this year in Las Vegas and will do it again next year! It was amazing. It was in May and we got to try wines we could have imagined!

Does Wine Spectator plan the Grand Tours in the same cities every year, or does the location change? I'm very interested in this... I think it would be a good reason to plan a trip to Vegas!:thumbsup2

We know that they always do it in New York and that next year they are doing Vegas again. I guess they choose a new city every few years from what was said.
We had a great time, beautiful time to go to Vegas and the event itself was FANTASTIC. The people pouring the wines said the Vegas event was the best to go to because the New York one brings in more industry people and the Vegas was made of a mix with a lot being wine fans. We even talked to Guy Savoy as he made his was through the rows of wine!
Have fun if you go .. !!!

Since I found out there are other F&W festivals other than Disney's, ;) I've been looking into them.

There is one in Charleston here

I don't know how it is but one of the events caught my eye.

Food + Wine with a View
Time: 7:00-11:00PM

Location: Private Penthouse, People's Building, State and Queen Street

Dress: Formal

Tickets: $750 per person with a portion of ticket price being tax-deductible

Quantity: On Saturday night sixty privileged guests come together for the ULTIMATE dinner set in a private penthouse downtown. The city skyline is breathtaking at Food + Wine with a View. The stellar talents of four of the nations top female chefs, coordinated by Charleston icon Mickey Bakst of Charleston Grill, come together to create an intimate five-course dinner matched with the finest wines in the world.

And I thought GF was expensive. I wonder how much is tax deductible :)

Or if you don't want a view

Legendary Evening in the Lowcountry
Time: 7:00-11:00PM

Location: Private Residence- TBD

Dress: Formal

Tickets: $500 with a portion of ticket price being tax-deductible

Quantity: New to the schedule this year is a Legendary Evening in the Lowcountry, an event with a unique five-course menu crafted by local chefs Brett McKee, Bob Waggoner and Frank Lee. Three of the regions most celebrated chefs who have been at the forefront of the Charleston culinary movement. Celebrity chef Rick Tramanto of Tru in Chicago joins this band of culinary legends in a private residence for a personal meal that takes Southern comfort to a whole new level. This deep-rooted menu is brought to life with carefully selected wines from across the country.

What is interesting is, while the festival is in March, most information is already there, and that some events have already been sold out.

Wow! You guys are an endless source of fabulous and fascinating information! :thumbsup2

I'm making a list and checking it twice ... and trying not to eat it! :lmao:

Here's the link to the Santa Fe event. The Grand Food & Wine Tasting event is not to be missed!! If you look under the 'who's pouring' section of the website, you will see all the wineries which will be pouring at the Grand Tasting. There are lots of really premium wines poured. The price is $125 and is worth every penny!! Tickets usually go on sale in June or July and just like with Disney, you have to book early.

I'm really curious to see how the PFTS compares to the Santa Fe Grand Tasting I did last year. This is my first year at PFTS. I have a feeling that the Santa Fe food and wine is of a higher quality, but the up side is I don't have to fly to N.M!

The Charleston festival has many events, mostly casual. But here is a list of the full range of dress

Casual
Upscale casual
Business and Chic Casual
Cocktail
Formal

I dare you to use only one carryon for this festival. ;)

I'm not sure what Upscale vs business vs chic Casual mean. (probably means I have to wear socks. Do they have to match?;) )

I called just to try to get some information and couldn't get anyone to tell me what the "challenges" were. I also expressed my lack of enthusiasm over the culling of the program for this year's festival and was told that this was in response to customer surveys taken at various festival events last year, including the regional feasts, signature dinners, and exquisite evenings.

She said attendees were all asking for "something different" and when I said something different doesn't equate to eliminating all of those events that were obviously popular since they were selling out every year, she proceeded to tell me that people wanted more celebrity chef appearances.

:confused3

She tried to get me excited by telling me about the City Walk events (not being offered during our stay, thanks anyway) and then she tried to get me even more excited about Jamie Deen. I don't like Paula Deen why would I want to pay money to see one of her offspring? And I'm pretty sure he's making an appearance at a time other than our trip, anyway.

IBTW - I've never taken any kind of survey for F&W organizers and no one has ever been remotely interested in any suggestions or comments that we've offered in past years. Anyone else here taken a survey? :confused3

Sorry to hear that they canceled this event from under you. I know I haven't taken a survey at the Signature Dinner last year, nor the other one I attended. I think it would be kind of tacky if they took surveys after these events.

Eh, it's not that a big of a deal in the overall scheme of things but it does make me feel like we're just not destined to ever get to any kind of signature event ... we struck out again this year. ;)

On the really bright side at least we get to use our cool wine lanyards in October! :thumbsup2

Hey, we're still on that Jiko dinner wait list. Wine lanyards? Now you're making me do some research... ;)

I suggested to Bob that we book a dinner at V&A this trip and he said, "Um... I don't think so." He cowers when the bill for the two of us goes too high. :rotfl:

Vicki and Al's is an alternative that many of us have decided to do because of the lack of events. :thumbsup2

Yes! We have for WDW and Disneyland Food and Wine weekends At least we got $10 for Disneylands feedback! Well At least Jason did .. I guess I don't count!?! Too bad I eat way more then him!

I received a ton of those online survey postcards at the Disneyland festival, and I did the survey. I still have the $10 check that I haven't put into the bank yet.

Oh well. I'd have loved, loved, loved, to read the Oybolshoi Report.

When I read this, I couldn't help think of the McNeil/Lehrer Report, but that would be something completely different entirely! It was one of those random things that pop into my head and make me giggle. :)

Another F&W Fest to keep an eye on is the new Chicago Gourmet. This is it's inaugural year and it sounds very interesting...

Chicago Gourmet 2008

It just happens to be the same weekend as Epcot's F&W Fest. I'm sure many of the Chicago chef's attending the Bocuse d'Or competition had to decide where to be that weekend. I know Charlie Trotter will be in Disney instead of staying in Chicago...

Wow, I had no clue about this event, but I probably won't be going to it. The one day pass is $150, and the weekend pass is $250. I recognized some names of chefs who have gone (or will be going to) the WDW festival. Rick Bayless (love his food) and Gale Gand (doing a Sweet Sunday this year) stood out for me.

dizneykid, where are you. She has the info on the wine lanyards. They are fantastic, we will be sporting ours at PFTS on the 18th.

Jiko dinner waitlist, good luck. We actually got discouraged with those dinners, as getting in has proved to be impossible and we are on the email list for them.

Is this what you guys are talking about when you mention wine lanyards?

Yep, that is it.

They were giving these out at the Newport F&W Festival last year. Very cute, of course I never thought to bring them to Disney. I'll have to go search for ours now and toss them in the suitcase.

LOL, we got ours as a gift from friends, we can't wait to use it at this years PFTS. Definately put it in the suitcase!

I have to ask a dumb question here to all the ladies that have or had one of these...

Anybody have problems getting their drink on the lanyard to lay flat against a voluptuous chest? DH had no problems, but for me, I recall spending a lot of time making sure my girls didn't take a wine bath.

I just planned on wearing a dark shirt that wouldn't show if a bit got on the shirt, lol.

I may have to resort to that. It is nice to have your hands free to eat all the goodies, then you don't feel like your doing a balancing act through the world showcase.

Hey, I'm here. Been busy doing house work. :scared1:

Anyway, I have the website where you can get the lanyards. They are wonderful to use. Am I allowed to post the site here or do you have to PM me?

Let me know.

Anyway, whatever you do, don't buy them for more than $5.00 plus tax. I researched this and found that some places were actually charging $25.00!!! The lanyards I bought are very sturdy and work well.

Exactly, lol. Can't wait to try the lanyards.

We will use them for eating around the WS as well, although I have purchased some light up wine glasses for our traveling party to use that night, lol.

Stop doing housework, the bar is open, get down here, lol.

Are the lanyards you have adjustable? The one I have is, and I can make them hold the glass a little lower.

If not, just wear a dark colored top. ;) This way, if you do spill, it won't be noticed. A nice deep wine glass works better also.

Stupid question about the lanyards, but how does the wine pourer fill up your glass without being too close to the girls, or without getting it on your shirt? :confused3
