***Epcot Food And Wine Festival Info 2008***

Was just catching up on the posts in the last day and was surprised that so many people are SA Utopia fans...this is just a novelty beer to me - there are some really rare beers that I'd rather have such as Abbaye De Saint Bon-Chien (I guess my beer snobbyness is making an appearance this morning).

So Sam Adams does have several limited run / "gimmick" beers, as you said - doesn't mean it's a bad thing. And it's not a Utopias (BriarRosie, it does have an "s" at the end, since you were wondering :) ) vs. other beers - luckily we're not limited to which beers we can enjoy versus others. And I very much enjoy Utopias and find that it's an excellent liquor - something very different.

I consider myself a beer snob and I enjoy many different types of beers; I enjoy Utopias, I enjoy the few Belgians I've been working my way into (since I rarely have time to make it to Knightly Spirits or Total Wines), I enjoy fruit beers from Sea Dog when I'm BBQing.

Reading all the posts regarding beer and the PFTS, is there lots of beer being served at the PFTS? I don't know why, but I thought they served more wines than beer. Maybe just wishful thinking on my part. :) Don't get me wrong, I like beer, but would much rather drink wine.

How about this one?

By the way... I like your new avatar!

That's great...love it!

There are definately more wines than beer served. But it has been our experience that you will find beer at a couple stations, as well as vodka sometimes. Again, all parties are different.

Webray are you going to PFTS this year? If yes when if you don't mind me asking.

Unfortunately for me, no - I do wish there were more beers! Usually there will be a Sam Adams booth with Octoberfest, Boston Lager, Light, and sometimes Utopias. In the past there's been an InBev station with Stella, Hoegaarden, etc, but not last year and probably not this.

As webray said, sometimes there are different types of alcohol - last year we went to one that had a dish that came with a frozen mojito shot.

But the vast majority of beverages are wine, worry not.

And DH just booked us the 10/18 PftS. :) Now to figure out which one with my brother, father, and father's girlfriend.

Ya know...I am thinking there may be more beers all around Food and Wine this year, as they are really advertising the beer end of it in everything I see!

The food is usually handed to you by someone at each section to keep the line moving quickly.

If you want to sit...just find a table. Usually hubby and I take turns getting wine and food so we don't lose the table until we are ready to get up. Works out great. Most the tables are larger, so we usually end up sharing the table with 2, 3, 4 other couples. Good way to make new friends also!

Thank you for the information! I was under the impression that the tables were the tall kind that are in bars and those don't work very well for a person in a wheelchair. :) So it's good to know that there are normal size tables and chairs.

Since I need my spouse as a "pusher" I don't think we will be able to find and keep a table very easily. Which is why I thought providing my own with the wheelchair might work a bit better. :)

Which leads me to another question...can I transfer the wine into glasses with a tight lid? This would definitely decrease the possibility of spills, but I don't know if it would be allowed?

We were really looking for African or Australian and we're only there for the Louisiana one. Being someone who doesn't eat Seafood or Fish I'm a bit put off this one looking at the offerings at the Louisiana food booth. Might just go to Boma's instead lol

Well, remember that the food last year all came from Boma. So, if that's the experience you want, do the South African wine school on Nov. 1 and then go to Boma for dinner. Not sure if you're there then (that's 6 days prior to the Lousiana dinner), but that's probaby the next best thing.

You were right, some of the tables are high, like you mentioned.

I don't see why your couldn't transfer your wine into your own glass. I wouldn't think it would be a problem.

per the Lousianna Food and WIne booth - I have a friend from another message board that will be working the booth - (Oct 25 - Nov2) I asked her about comingi n early and she replied that they are coming per regions and the Monroe Area will be there the week before her, providing their tastes...

I'm looking forward to the whole festival!!

Its hard to know until you get there what works for you - but in my previous experiences there have always been places at some lower tables - I also like to "park" myself at a place and dh and I go in different directions - coming back to meet up at a place - I've just put a jacket (rain poncho last year) on the back of the seat, I think the last 2 years they have had more tables than party goers so seating has not been an issue (in the early Party's I remember reading reviews that the party was about moving and not parking at one table, so there was "panic" about finding a table - I think this may have changed - esp in the back section lots of empty tables!!)

The wine glasses are very tall - and the plates have a cut out that fits the wine glasses - I just went and measured, the glasses are app 4 in tall they hold a full 16 ounces of liquid, with a bit to spare - so the Party may only give you 1 - 2 ounces, and with a tall wine glass that holds 8 times that amount, you may find you can get around without spillage - but again, you will have to experience it - In this day and age of accomadations, I cant imagine it being a problem were you to bring a glass...

(I wonder if Talking Hands on the disability board has been to the party of the senses, she would have experience...)

Forever42, yes it certainly is an interesting beverage and I guess there is a market for this type of product but I just feel for $175-$200 a bottle money can be much better spent elsewhere beerwise - I personally would put my money in some Westy 8/12's from Belgian shop (which is considered the best beer in the world) or some of the other top rated beers you can find at beeradvocate.com for a fraction of the price.

Had a totally off-the-wall beer this weekend - Southern Tier Creme Brulee - this might be the ultimate dessert beer.

I was thinking with InBev's popular purchase of Busch ;) , that they would probably like to push all their brands. They have a pretty wide portfolio of products, including English, German, Belgian, Brazilian. Fit in nicely with the whole Epcot F&W theme. Just speculation on my part. I know Disney seem to tie themselves up in knots when it comes to products sold in parks, so they might be limited as to what companies can make an appearance.

Figaro, My DH uses a power wc, we didn't have any trouble getting one of the lower tables at the PFTS the past two years. My DH had a friend make him a wine glass holder for his wine & that worked well for him. I wanted him to get a tray for his chair but he wasn't having any of that. I did a little extra running for food because he could only hold one plate at a time. But it was worth it.

This year we're doing the City Taste, I am a little worried that because it's described as a walk-about they may not have tables. DH needs a table to be able to eat. He wasn't worried about it though, he said if they didn't have any out, he'd ask for one.

I'm sure someone will correct me - I do remember reading about Inbev wasnt part of the WDW distribution list - which is why they no longer do the fantastic beer tastings in England - I remember they used to do full bottles of beer per table - 4 beers, one was Stella Ortois (sp?)

this was the reason cited that InBev wont be there - I hope there is a new contract signed and we can see some great beers!! (or whatever the problem was, may it get resolved!)

I don't care who disney contracts with, I just hope it is someone that can finally get some great beers in. Something other than what you can find in the grocery store.

Are you sure you have tasted Utopias????
