EPCOT- Disney's dream or nightmare

I love Epcot! I don't think it's a nightmare. Out of all the parks I go to Epcot first and then MK. Even on days we go to HS or AK we go to Epcot at night. We're staying at Boardwalk so we can be close to Epcot for our December trip. When I was a teenager and Epcot was new it was my favorite and it still is today!

DITTO!!! And we chose BC due to it's proximity to EPCOT.....

There are nightmarish things about Epcot. Here's my list:

This may be a little harsh. ;)...
  • The friggin ugly "tombstones" out front. Makes that area feel so harsh, stark, and they are plopped right in the way of everything.
  • It's retro Future. Not a real "Future World" :sad2: It looks like it's straight out of the 80's. Calling it Future World is a joke.
  • Lack of rides. There are TWO, yeah TWO headliners. Soarin and Test Track. Both of which I love, especially Soarin, but everything else? What's that I hear?, crickets?...
  • Captain EO is still running. Enough said.
  • Empty, closed down buildings.
  • Concrete, concrete, and more concrete... Not so much in the world showcase, but dang, out front in Future World? :faint::faint:
The World Showcase just feels... lacking. There just isn't much to get excited about. It's hotter than heck walking around in during the summer months. Besides shopping, and a few minor rides/movies, I think about the best thing invented for Epcot is Drinking around the World.:drinking1

Now, to be fair, there are things about Epcot that keep us going back. Things we Love.
  • Soarin and Test Track. Soarin in particular is my one single ride that signifies WDW to me.
  • Love the golf ball. Spaceship Earth is a unique, fun experience that is truly Disney.
  • The sounds. I love the background music in FW, along with the lighted sidewalks at night.
  • The seas area. It's a fun way to spend an hour or so...
  • Great food locations.
Epcot has been our least favorite park, but growing on us a little. It may have just squeaked by AK for 3rd place. :)

"It and AK are my favorite parks. I'm a freak of the world, MK is third on my list." you said it! and I wholeheartedly agree!!

Another fan of epcot! Soarin is my favorite ride in all the parks. I could spend a week at world showcase. I think Walt would be pleasantly surprised.

i agree. What to the OP is a "nightmare"? It's like someone else calling all Magic Kingdom restrooms "gross". One word means many different things to many different people.

Epcot is a favorite of mine and my husband's. We are two younger 50s age people who love going to Epcot and just strolling around World Showcase after a day at another park. To us, that is sublime and a perfect way to end a day so certainly not a "nightmare". But that's two people out of how many who tour Disney World every day.

Plus, Walt has been dead for almost 50 years so his dreams don't mean a big hoot right about now.

All you have to do is click on the OP's name and search their posts to know that anything they say is nearly unintelligible and should be taken as either trolling or...well, I'll be kind. :headache:

EPCOT is not a nightmare but it could use a little help. Like the majority on here I'd like to see them revamp Future World a bit and maybe ad a country or two to WS but other than that it's still my second favorite park!!

Epcot gets a lot of leeway from me for nostalgia reasons, though FW really could use some updates because, for real, Captain EO? Seriously?

But I could do a trip where we basically only went to WS and be perfectly happy.

Absolutely LOVE epcot , when we go to WDW we always go there first.

MK is more for the kids, DHS is a little of both , AK is for the animal lover and EPCOT is more for the adult and the adults with the heart of a kid.

And even though it could use a little bit more attention, overall it is still our favorite park

Wow! So I guess I'm in the minority. We only go to Epcot once on our trip and that's to see Illuminations. It's soooo outdated even the kids say "meh". It's more for nostalgia than anything else.

That being said, when we went for our honeymoon,we drank our way around WS. Can't do that with 5 children in tow however.

I still think World Showcase is the most impressive and unique area in any Disney Park.

(I do not like the most recent changes-Canadian Lumberjacks replacing WS institution OK and the Frozenation of Norway however.)

World Showcase is one of the best themed shopping malls we've visited. All the other parks (and Future World) have nice shows and rides, with a few shops interspersed. World Showcase has store after store after store with a few shows and rides interspersed.

I absolutely live Epcot. Now I will say it is outdated and could use a little touch up. I do wish they brought back the wonders of life pavilion. There were some awesome attractions in there. Our home resort is the Boardwalk and I usually go for a stroll through the world showcase during the afternoon when I come back from the morning. I enjoy illuminations, but is will admit it could use some updating as it's been around for 15 years. I will say that the holiday addition to the fireworks are exceptional. I enjoy the world showcase for a nice leisurely stroll with an adult beverage in my hand.

But see, that's the thing about Disney World. Every single park is different for every single family, couple, person, who visits. Your family with five kids certainly tours Epcot at different way than my family of two young 50s people. My husband and I don't have a great time at Magic Kingdom but I'll bet yours does. But I wouldn't come on this board and say Magic Kingdom is a nightmare. It might be for me but not for the hundreds of thousands of others who visit it all year long.

That's a problem with posts of this kind. ONE person with ONE opinion. Not the poster I quoted here but the OP. And then responders get nailed for their opinions. It's a never ending cycle.

I couldn't agree more

Well it didn't turn out as Walt envisioned but EPCOT is my favorite park and Future World does need updating. For me World Showcase is something Disney did right and that's part of the reason it is timeless. Though I wouldn't mind another pavilion. Right now Disney needs to pay attention to DHS and AK as I would not enjoy seeing another park with walls up for awhile.
