It was open for a few minutes after we got downstairs a few days ago and by the time we were ready to leave, it was closed again.

I have only seen them use it when the elevator is being worked on - probably it is not used because it is backstage.
I wish they would just do some renovating the area to make it be on stage.
We have been in the Fastpass line several times when they have brought people in thru a back entrance to Soarin'When we took the Undiscovered Futureworld tour, the tour guide told us that if there is a medical need, such as for someone someone who is claustrophobic and in a wheelchair or ECV, it is possible to use the back entrance. Apparently you should be able to ask a CM, it might take a little while to get someone to take you though.
I have never had a need to use this entrance, so I do not know how accurate this statement is, it is just what we were told. You do get to use the back entrance to Soarin' on the tour and there are height checks available there, so they obviously use it somewhat routinely, which make me tend to believe the tour guide.
That rumor keeps going around, I wonder if it will ever happen? If so, I know I want to know about it, as I can't imagine going to Disney World and not being able to see Figment...LOLUsing the entrance that goes to the back might not be a option much longer if the rumored major refurb of figment go through that area in back might be a construction area so until they get the work done they my not want or be able to use that entrance unless it a emergency. As the exit would be blocked by the work on figment which is rumored to begin in jan and last awhile.

I would love a Phineas and Ferb theme, as long as they keep Figment in there. I can think of several ways that they could accomplish this. The ride does need updating, but they can't get rid of Figment, he is too iconic.Yeah I think why it picked up s that Disney I think has announced the refurb but not a be date so that why the rumor started. I know one is they will remove the captain so buildings not sure what their relate them with. Then retheme figment into phineas and pherb I know I miss figment but nit sure if that would happen without getting a new sponsor. I say put a brand new. 4 day theater where captain eo is completely fix it up and put phineas and pherb in their as a show. Then bring figment back to what it use to be but a 2013 version. But Disney needs to do something to get it more traffic that would help the other rides. We have to see I don't like listening to too many rumors but when it comes from some people that most if the time is right or close and with them saying they closing figment for a while but has not said what they are doing and it more then just closing it in slower months to save money.
