Epcot bakeries--safe for peanut allergy?

Are the baked goods for Norway and France from the same source as the other WDW bakeries? I'm trying to figure out if there would be anything in either bakery that's safe for DD to eat (peanut allergy). She definitely won't eat those pre-packaged brownies and cookies that some of the other bakeries have.
 
i'm allergic to peanuts as well adn I have eaten things from the bakery at france.
The only catch is, that I am also allergic to eggs so the amount that I can eat there is very limited but I have not had problems yet.
 
We've been told by special diets and CMs at the bakeries and restaurants that none of the bakery items throughout Disney, except for prepackaged Divvies and the brownies (forgot the brand), are safe for those with peanut/tree nut allergies. Everything is made in facilities with nuts, whether the particular item has nuts or not. Also, the display cases in the bakeries have nut and nut-free items together and the CMs are handling everything. Everyone has their own comfort level regarding cross-contamination possibilities, but we don't think it's worth the risk for our kids.
 
We have never had a problem eating with DD's allergies while at Disney. She is allergic to peanuts, but we also keep her away from tree nuts as well. We have reservations at both Teppan Edo and Ohana's for dinner, we have never dined at either of these places.
My questions are:
What were you told to stay away from @ both places?
I hear wonderful things about Chef T.J. at Ohana's, is there any way I could find out if he will be working when we are supposed to be dining there?
I am just a little nervous about Teppan Edo b/c it is not Disney owned, but I also wonder if Japanese cuisine really involves peanut oils?

Anything else you would like to share would be GREAT and appreciated! Thanks so much!
 

The first time we dined at epcot, a little girl at the table next to us had a peanut allergy. The chef came out to get the explanation etc.. and they had to do a LOT of things to keep it peanut free due to cross contamination. She had special plates etc.

To note, one of the meat sauces they bring out is a peanut sauce!

Teppon Edo will be similiar in that it will have a peanut sauce for the meat. One of the biggest problems is that you may be sitting with other people and therefore they may want to use the sauce for their meal and thus it would be at the table.
 
I have two children with food allergies(fish/shellfish, and dairy) So cross contamination is a huge issue with us. We have dined at Ohana numerous times. They do have a peanut sauce for dipping but I am pretty sure that is the only thing they have there. But I can't say for sure since peanuts isn't on our worry list. But, I can tell you that Ohana is very good about gloving up and the chef will prepare the plate personally. I have no info for Teppan Edo sorry.
 
Thanks, I was pretty sure that would be the case. I was really hoping the Epcot bakeries would be different. I wouldn't feel safe with the risk of cross-contamination.

My son has a peanut allergy and we were told the exact same thing this February. I didn't chance it. :sad2:
 
We had the most wonderful experience at Ohana's. Chef TJ was super nice. He asked the whole family to skip the peanut sauce. This was my intention anyway, but I felt good knowing he got it enough to suggest that. My DS is also milk and egg allergic and we avoid tree nuts. One of the other great things about that meal were how many things he could eat. He didn't get a special meal. He was able to eat everything except the rolls (Chef TJ brought out a safe GF roll for him), the peanut sauce, and the dumplings (not sure which allergen was in those). We also skipped the shrimp at our table because DH is allergic to shellfish. DS was able to eat all the skewered meats, two other sauces, salad, broccoli, noodles, wings. And the dessert Chef TJ made for him was out of this world. I'm assuming you've seen pictures of the towers he makes for their dessert.

I bet Brenda Bennet could tell you what his normal days are, but they may change that far out. How about this idea? May not be too popular, but you could make reservations for Ohanas on 2 different nights. A week before, call Brenda and find out his schedule. Then cancel one of the ADRs. I don't have a problem with doing that as long as you cancel the extra ADR with as much notice as possible.

The common dipping sauces at most teppanyaki restaurants is a ginger sauce and a mustard sauce. I thought these were the sauces at Teppan Edo along with another white sauce (that is not a nut sauce). Soy sauce, Teryaki Sauce are also common sauces in cooking, but not peanut sauce!

I have read a recipe for the ginger dressing that is common on salads served at Teppanyaki restaurants that had peanut oil so I always ask, I would never just assume that something didn't contain peanut oil or peanut products, but I have never encountered a Japanese restaurant (teppanyaki also) that uses peanut oil (still always ask though, even if I've been to the restaurant a hundred times).

Yes I was trying to find this out as well on the internet and I haven't seen peanut sauce mentioned and my dr. gave us a list of foods to stay away from (bakeries, candy bars, chinese, thia, African foods were among them, but not Japanese) and I also watched on youtube one of the chef's prepare the meal and she said she was using soybean oil to fry everything.
obviously I will ask, but I didn't think it was peanut sauce either.

I was also thinking this too, I read somewhere on the Dis that he is off on Sun and Mon, but that may have changed, or may change in time.
Do you think it is wrong to ask the whole family to skip the peanut sauce? That is what I would prefer, she does not have an airborn allergy, but you just never know, she may grab one of her cousin's forks or something KWIM? We are now a large group of 11 :thumbsup2.
 
I definitely do NOT think it's unfair to ask the family to forego the peanut sauce (there are 2 other delicious sauces), but I'm a little biased. For us it was just me, DH, and our 2 kids. Only you know how willing your family is to accomodate your child and wether it's worth the fight. You may find that Chef TJ won't allow it at the same table.

I forgot to mention in my prior post that I wouldn't allow my child to play the games. With all the kids playing with that stuff after having peanut sauce, I was too worried. My DS didn't seem to notice or care, but you might want to consider how your child would handle that.
 
I would definitely ask others at the table to skip the peanut sauce! Personally, I would avoid O'hana, no matter what chef was working. There's just too much danger of cross-contamination with something like peanut sauce floating around. Of course, that's my opinion only. I hope you have a safe and fun meal.
 
I don't remember exactly because we were seated behind the grill and weren't participating, but I know they had all the kids grab maraccas (sp?) out of a box and I think they chase coconuts around with broomsticks.
 
This is our first time to WDW and are traveling with our 3 year old who has a life threatening allergy to peanuts and tree nuts and we have 2 reservations at Ohana, we are staying at the Polynesian so it's very convenient. I have already talked to Brenda Bennett and my son's allergies have been noted, the chef will speak to us and every precaution will be taken. I'm also the crazy mom that wipes down his chair with wipes as well as the table before it's set and we do not order any type of peanut product and I don't care who's at our table they will have to respect the nature of the allergy if they don't they can sit at another table. It's scarey but if you think about it most all restaurants will carry some kind of peanut/nut product whether it's nuts on sundaes or a sauce or a topping on meats. We have to let him lead a life of some normalcy but being as safe as we can.

I don't think you're a crazy mom at all - that's just being prudent. I would be sure to clean everything my child might touch, including under and around the rim of the table. Remember that the peanut dipping sauce is going on that table each and every day, people are getting it on their fingers, and touching everything there.

The ginger sauce can have a peanut base to it (and that is the one I am thinking about) thats used with steak. This is because they traditionally mix peanut butter (not peanut oil),soy sauce, garlic and ginger to create the sauce. It does depend on the restaurant, and their choice on how to make the sauce.

I don't think you are crazy either, one our first trip to WDW I was in HEAVEN when I found the travel pack of clorox disinfecting wipes :worship:
I also read about a woman whose daughter was eating at pinocchio's village haus and I believe she said she wiped down all the tables and the chair and then her DD who was very small walked over to the glass window to look down on IASW and then rubbed her eye and her eye blew up, there was peanut butter all on the window :sad1: Poor thing
