Entry level DSLR camera recommendation.

Well, that's not completely true (about them working the same way) - Minolta changed their mount in 1985 and Sony certainly doesn't officially support mounting such lenses on their DSLRs. They're more like Canon - they would like you to forget using the old manual focus lenses on your DSLR.

True...I should have mentioned an adapter is necessary for any pre-85 manual Minolta lenses. All the AF ones work - but the manual ones require an adapter, and are not officially supported. Also, there were a few cameras in Sony's line that dropped the 'release w/o lens' function that made the camera incapable of metering in A mode...fortunately, their last 5 models have restored that capability for those who use the old lenses. Most of us just enjoy the large Maxxum collection of lenses - though the NEX folks seem to be experimenting a lot with manual lenses since that camera can accept almost infinite adapters for almost any brand and type of manual lens.

That is the main attraction of mirrorless cameras for me. I'm not so concerned about the size and I don't like losing the optical viewfinder, but the ability to mount any lens sure is enticing!
