We plan on staying at the AllStar Vacation Homes and they have a promotion where if you rent a type of category home you get a free car rental. I was reading the small print and it appears that they use Enterprise Car Rentals and was wondering how they are in sense of service and the conditions of the cars. We'd have to pay for the insurance and add'l fees which I'm not sure but still the rental is free. Anyone has tried this deal that would care to comment. I don't drive so I have ZERO experience with renting cars, I don't even drive, my DSIL will be doing the driving but I'm in charge of the planning so I'm wondering about the procedure and such. It seems the pick up is at MCO and that's all I know, and that its an "intermediate" car, whatever that means?? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!!:thumbsup2

At airport locations, without a close off-site neighborhood location that would be using the cars for insurance replacements, Enterprise is not horrible, they are the same company as National and Alamo. Enterprise tends to keep their neighborhood cars longer and it's not uncommon to see a well used 30k plus mile rental car, and if there is a local neighborhood location to the airport, the fleets are often shared or are pulled from to handle demand, resulting in the fleet aging quicker.

Otherwise, regarding the free rental, I would make sure you check with the company you are renting your room/resort home from as they may have a requirement that the name of the renter has to match the person getting the free car, which will mean, in your case, all will need to be your DSIL.

I can't answer concerning service and condition of cars. With any rental company, that is going to depend on the location. I use Enterprise close to my home frequently. Service is great and condition of cars is great -- someone who has rented from that specific MCO location would have the best input.

As far as "intermediate" and what that means ---- I suggest that you go to the Enterprise website (just google Enterprise Car Rentals). Go through the steps as though you are going to reserve a car from MCO. When you go through those steps, you will be given the different car categories, and you'll see what kind of car is included in that category. You can also see the general difference in price among the categories. If you prefer the next size up (probably a Full size), you might have the option of getting that and paying the differential.

Concerning insurance --- we always decline all of the insurance offered by the rental company. That is because we know that we have that same coverage through a combination of our personal car insurance and our credit card company (Capital One) if we use that card for our rental. Check with your credit card provider and your car insurance provider (or your DSIL) to see what coverage you would have there.

Enterprise uses the same cars as Alamo and National. In fact, Enterprise owns Alamo and National. Here is the list of their "fleet". http://www.enterprise.com/car_renta...hBzTN03J7gTf1qYGRGGTf9DnRpvpybL772!1435497842
Since the rental location is at MCO, which is the airport, you should not find anything but well maintained cars. We don't rent junks. :)

The OP stated that the rental was to begin at MCO, an airport location.
FYI, you don't have to go through a "mock" rental to see the list of cars, it is at the bottom of the page. :)

I'm not sure if you're specifically stating Enterprise at MCO, or in general, but I would surely disagree on the general aspect as locations that are neighborhood locations (or cities where the airport location is the feeder pool for the neighborhood) have some of the worst cars I have ever seen in terms of condition/quality.

Note that if this is a "free" or included rental (one that you wouldn't be using your credit card to actually pay for the rental), the insurance coverage normally provided by your credit card company would probably not apply. If that is indeed the case, make sure your auto insurance policy would still cover your rental. Otherwise, you'll want to purchase the Enterprise insurance which can be expensive.

I have had both...

And the last time I got a car "branded" Enterprise at a National location it was a piece of junke! Had to return it 24 hours later because it was leaking stuff all over the road. Almost 40,000 miles on it and they appeared to be HARD miles! Just in pretty sad shape.

Now a few months ago I rented directly from Enterprise at the same airport and the car was fine. (The rental process itself was torture, but...)

We rented from Enterprise at MCO in Sept and everything went smoothly. Car had about 30K on it, but everything was in working order and the car was clean. We had an intermediate car - which was a Toyota Corolla (kinda sad that's an intermediate car).

So - the process was you checked in inside (no wait), then went outside and we waited about 8-10 minutes for someone to take us over to the car to let us pick from the "category" we had rented. They were busy, it's not cause they didn't have help!

As my boyfriend is spoiled by his Gold Club service at Hertz, it seemed like a forever wait, but the process all went smoothly. And the price was right!

Now - if you HAVE to buy their insurance (or anything else) as part of the deal - I'd find out how much that is going to be - all the insurance and fees with rental cars REALLY adds up - and yep - the car has to be in the name of driver. So - understand the fine print - and especially what you "must" purchase when using a special deal. Make sure it's still a deal!

I am commenting on MCO specifically, which is where the OP is getting her car. I cannot comment too much on feeder pools or neighborhood locations as I have really never paid attention as I drive by them, but, as I wiz past them in Orlando area, they all look pretty good.

OCC, not sure what you mean by:" I got a car "branded" Enterprise at a National location " .

Thanks to all the replies, they are all quite helpful and an eye-opener. If as suggest by kwdw the insurance is going to outweigh the cost, can someone suggest another car rental place at MCO that we could you use that you have had a good experience with. I just re-read the small print and it also states that instead of the car rental we can also opt to get a $150 rebate if we don't use the car.

I have had great experiences with Alamo, National and Avis.

We haven't used Alamo, but National (same company as Alamo), Avis and Hertz have all given us good service. Be sure to check Mousesavers.com for codes/coupons.
