DH and I are going on the 3 Night Merrytime
Baja cruise in December. Neither of us have cruised before. Is getting off the ship at Ensenada a must? Has anyone ever done a really great excursion there? If you’ve stayed onboard for a port day, do you have any activity recommendations?

We have no kids and are Disneyland passholders… Disney adults!

Been to Ensenada many times. No, an excursion isn't really necessary, and we recommend a stay-on-board day personally. We've done "La Bufadora" which is the famous blowhole but it's surrounded by a "gauntlet" of touristy shop with very pushy workers. That being said, the blowhole is amazing to see, but it's a one-and-done sort of thing. Otherwise, there are nice wine/food tours (big win region in MX) and some off-road things you can do. Last time we were in Ensenada (March) we took a local "didi" (uber alternative) to the Costco and Walmart, picked up some Mexican treats we love and brought them home.

We've been to Ensenada quite a few times. The wine tour excursion is fine, but not spectacular.. It goes to the L A Cetto winery (largest in MX) and then one or two smaller wineries (maybe). If you're adventurous you could probably find a better tour. These days my wife and I will just walk off the ship to get some fish tacos in the Mercado Negro right at the docks. Really tasty.

We are doing merry time in December as well. We are just going to stay on the ship. I am hoping that they show Avatar 2 on that day and the theater won’t be packed.
