My friend has to do a project involving the elderly that is based on England. She is planning an afternoon tea, but needs ideas on crafts, games, sayings, etc.

Thanks for any ideas!!! :)

Can you give a few more details?

Are they active elderly or chairbound? Living independantly and being invited for an afternoon out or are they in a nursing home? Is this intended to be a regular meeting or a one off get together? Will the elderly people know each other or will they need to get to know each other? Is your friend American or British?

If she can get old (wartime?) photos of the local area to display it would break the ice and give her guests a conversation starter. For regular meetings a speaker or craft instructor would be interesting for them for the first part of the afternoon followed by tea and biscuits and a time for chatting. If your friend is not local I'm sure they'd be interested in a short talk about her home town/state.

Depending on her audience bingo and whist may go down well so might a beetle drive or a general knowledge quiz (in teams?).

Bowling seems to be a game that a lot of elderly people play (not tenPin) :teeth:

I hope ive not affended anybody by saying that

Hi Poohtown
I am a bit confused here. Does your friend have to do this based on English customs? If so afternoon tea is a great idea with nice cakes and of course cucumber sandwiches - with the crusts cut off the bread.
Bingo and maybe dominos is a great idea as they can sit and play this.
Re sayings. This is a tricky one. Your friend could speak with an accent like the Queen and say things like ''more tea vicar'' but I think maybe fits of laughter will prevail with the old folks thinking that this person has gone mad!

sorry it took me so long to reply to this. Yes she's American (so am I). They are elderly, in nursing homes but some are more active than others. I'm thinking the tea is the best. Maybe she can make some kind of bingo game using pictures of the royal family.

thanks
