Hi.. rolling the dice with a very end July - first week of August anniversary trip to GF. Had my heart set on GF lagoon view so booked that and going to request Boca Chica through TP. If anyone is going June and July - keep us all posted on lobby construction. Really hoping it won’t be that impactful! I am BW DVC and usually stay in Epcot area but wanted to splurge for this trip. I had thoughts of a switch to CR but I just cannot get past the Incredibles rooms… just not my style at all and I am afraid I would be disappointed. Thoughts?

Our last two trips have been end of July into early August, and it is insanely hot and humid.
And it stormed every single afternoon.
But the crowds weren’t too bad.
This year going mid September and I don’t expect much to be different except for maybe slightly less crowds.
Feels and looks tropical, which is different than where we are from (Chicago and middle TN) so we like it.

I hear ya on those CR rooms. The only thing I like about the new room design/decor is the bathrooms. Does not look relaxing or Deluxe.....IMO. Luckily for lovers of the Incredibles CR rooms, neither of us will be competing for their coveted rooms :rotfl2:

Yes, it will be crazy hot and humid with daily rain storms at that time of year. I think the lagoon view rooms at GF will be great for balcony viewing. Whether it's morning coffee, the evening lights, or the afternoon rain storms, it will be lovely and relaxing. I can't speak to the views for Boca Chica but I think any of the lagoon views would be nice and have their own personalities no matter the building. I wouldn't be too worried about building placement. We personally love Sago but that is currently under refurb so.....

Don't forget that each GF building has its own laundry room in case you need it. Since you usually stay DVC you might be used to easy laundry access in villa.

Enjoy!!

How they couldn’t have landed on Star Wars or Wall-E for CR is beyond me. I’ve yet to hear about a single person anywhere who thought it was a good idea.

I’ve never seen Wall-e but a Star Wars themed hotel would probably have been a sell out every single day.

Why the heck didn’t they do that instead?
I mean I know there’s the galactic star cruiser and all but if they just used the SW theme, that would have been excellent!

Disney has shared nothing on when the Lobby will start nor if it will be a major or maybe just a furniture swap out. The rooms in the main building are not bookable for the summer and fall but it is well known the rooms are being re-themed. The 35th anniversary is July 1 so I would expect the lobby to have not started by then or to be complete it is more than likely they will do something on that day.... We will be there Mid-late July so hoping the Lobby is done as well but then again was at POLY when they redid the lobby which was a huge redo and it was not that bad if you did not mind the entire what was a water feature fountain covered - the majority of the first floor. Cant see them doing much with the GF lobby I could be way off but I would think it will be cosmetic and fairly fast being the lobby is already open with flooring and I would not think they will putting up walls or fountains.

We were just there a week ago. Nothing happening with lobby carpeting yet, but there was some new furniture.

I suspect all that'll happen is carpeting the lobby floor, the Grand Staircase and adjacent 2nd floor seating area with repainting as needed.

What disturbed me was seeing a sign outside the Garden View Tea Room that said Garden View Lounge. Most likely, a redo of that area will be part of the lobby refurb.

No action yet at 1900 Park Fare. Who knows what Disney plans to do with it?

All a bit unsettling with the possibility that two of my favorite GF eateries may be completely transformed.

With Citricos, Narcoosees and Mizners all updated it only makes sense the rest will be next. The could do,that by seat in GF cafe and update the 1900 PF and then seat in 1900 PF for GF cafe remodel.

The GVTR …. They need to open that space more hours. Its a must do for many.

🤞🏻we all happy with the changes! So far so good.

@Boardwalk_Bound

You don’t really spend a lot of time in the lobby. Having a beautiful room, luscious grounds and nice amenities will help you not notice the mess.
I would stick with GF it is the flagship hotel😊

I agree with @trishadono. I also have a trip coming up in August, and I would not switch resorts, even with the construction going on. I would say if this was going on during Thanksgiving or Christmas time, where you would be missing out on the tree or the gingerbread house in the lobby, you might want to reconsider (if it was important to you). However, I do not see it as an issue for summer, but that’s my personal opinion.

Also, there is a Grand Floridian dedicated Thread where the construction information is updated as it comes in, as well as a full list of current construction on Page 1. You can find it HERE. Enjoy!

I wouldn't worry about the lobby at all. The lobby looks fine and even if they were to do some refurbishments, they only do a section at a time. I've never seen a Disney resort lobby refurb that closed off the entire thing.

But nothing has been announced, so I wouldn't worry about it. Now that the orchestra is gone, we rarely spend any time in the lobby anyway. :)

I love the GF! Love the grounds and the atmosphere!! You will love it!!
Happy Anniversary and have a wonderful trip!!

Update…. Today was my dining day and Citricos is not available 7/31 or 8/1. Not that there were no times left - it seemed like it was not going to be open?

Some restaurants are closed on certain days of the week. And sometimes a restaurant will post their openings a few days later than 60 days. Citricos usually isn't too hard to get. Just keep looking. :)
