Last time we went in January it was about 30 degrees. Hoping that was a fluke! What's the weather usually like? Pants/short sleeve weather? Or long sleeves?

I have been researching this as well, we arrive Jan. 26th. And what I've come up with is, you can't really tell until you get close enough to have a 10 day or similar forecast. It is just too unpredictable.

In general what I can see is it is usually mid 70s to low 80s daytime, 50s at night. But could drop to 30 you just never know.

As of now I'm planning layers. Some short sleeve, some long sleeve, a few jeans and some capris, hoodies or light jacket. If the forecast shows really warm then I'll pack shorts as well. I've seen alot of posts to say pack a shortsleeve in packback, wear a long sleeve with your hoodie/jacket. Most times the hoodie will come off and you will be good with long sleeves and pants, but have the short sleeve in case the sun makes you feel too warm.

Since I'm coming from NJ, I'll have my winter coat, gloves, etc if it does get cold.

Don't forget your scarf and light gloves! We've been there that same week in 2009, 2007 & 2006 ... evenings and mornings were very cool most of the time; temp was not that bad for a northerner, but it's the wind that makes the difference. Layers do work best; mid-day can be upper 70's ... it's a crazy weather time ... but, generally very pleasant with little rain.

Thanks! I'm trying to buy DD some "themed" wear, but just don't know what to get. I think I'm going to go for light pants and like you said, layer.

I think it was 2006 we were there when it was FREEZING. I still have my EIGHT DOLLAR mickey stretch gloves, so I'll def. be packing my own this time!

I've been there in December and it was very cold at night. I wouldn't even pack shorts (in fact I'm going mid-January and am not packing any). But then, I'm in Texas. I'm not as used to cold as you are.

Couldn't agree more-I've lived here all my life, and the weather is really unpredictable. DEFINATELY watch the weather constantly before you leave. Even so, still pack layers-things can change at the last minute. Yes, it can get to the 30's, especially at the end of January. It can also be in the 60's to 80's. The one good thing is that the humidity is low. (I mean low for FL; still high for everyone else!)

we typicaly go in january the middle to the end

typaicly we pack shorts and jeans and yes we have been looked at funny by security when its "cold" for being in the pool
we normaly bring a sweat shirt and buy a new one there

dont forget the sun screen and sunglasses and swim suit

most days are fine with the shorts in the am and starting the day with the sweat shirt

when we get to the airport we store our winter jackets in our checked bags and dont look at them till we get our luggage back when we get back to wi

We were there first week in Feb this year, and it was COLD and windy. I got a good deal on a coat at the Disney outlet and definitely wore it. I felt so sorry for the young children who were not dressed warmly.

Regardless of the forecast, I pack a little bit of everything. Last January the beginning of the week was 78 and the end of the week was 45. We got a few pool days in when we first got there. I actually enjoy being there during the chillier times, even if coats, hats and scarfs are required, it is nice to not be melting while standing in line.

Layering is the only way to go and pack for anything and everything!

We'll be there the 19th-26th. I'm still planning on shorts and tshirts mostly. It's 9 degrees today at home. The 15 day forecast is now 5 days out from our first day and showing a high of 69 in Orlando. Definately shorts weather for us. I can get by with shorts until about 45 or 50 degrees. I'll have 2 pr of jeans also and a light jacket, but I'm not thinking it'll be necessary for more than that. Oh, and I'll have my Uggs in case flip flops are too cold!

Yeah...when you travel in January, packing your clothes should be one of the last things you do-I always check the forcast as close to the 10 days out-with our entire stay included in those days. Last year we went the end of January & missed the frost-basically wore capris-short sleeve during the day & long pants, turtlenecks & heavy sweatshirts at night. I have heard that some actually need scarves & gloves :scared1: You just never know!!!! Have a great time!

Hello fellow northerner! I feel the same way, my self and my kids are comfortable in shorts to the 50's. Today we have 4 new inches of snow and the real feel is 4

We are going back late Jan. We went the same week as 4 years ago. I was looking at our pictures from the last trip and I noticed that we went from shorts early in the week to light jackets and jeans by the end. We did swim at night once, which was nuts but a memory. Daytime swimming was better. I think alot depends on the temperature change not so much the actual air temperature. We were at the jersey shore yesterday and although the temp was about 40 degrees it felt warm to us after the last few days of cold and wind. My mother, a Tampa Bay area resident, is cold when it gets to 50 degrees. I barely need a jacket this time of year at 50.
You northerners should certainly pack lighter, we are planning on it. Bathing suits don't take up much room anyway. And one very important thing that I pack is a snow shovel in the trunk of the car. I hate getting home only to be plowed in at the airport parking lot.

Oh great hint about the shovel! Normally I would say it doesn't snow enough in KC to do that.. but as I look at our 8 inches outside I no longer do!

The weather right now looks good for the rest of January! I'd suggest bringing 2 or 3 pairs of pants and 2-3 hoodies for the nights and mornings. If you pack hoodies/sweaters then you don't need to worry about long sleeve shirts because you can just easily toss a hoodie over a t-shirt to stay warm.
