I thought I was so clever...booking my vacation in December. I have been to DWD at least 20 times, but never for the holidays. I found this (GREAT!!!) site last week and after reading for days, I'm now very concerned about Pop Warner. How bad will it be???? Any advice for missing the crowds? We are staying at Old Key West.
Thanks

You'll be fine. Pop Warner only has a noticeable impact on the value and some moderate resorts. OKW is a deluxe. Impact on the park crowd levels is basically zero, from what I've read.

Pop Warner isn't that bad, but I've been both the first week and second week of December and I notice the difference in those weeks due to Pop Warner. There's not a huge difference in crowds, but less headaches for me when there are not thousands of teenagers running around. Just things like cheering in enclosed queues to pass the time, seeing a huge group of people just make it to BTMRR before you, things like that. I just think it is a bit quieter the second week. Also, they mostly effect values and some moderates, so you will be safe at OKW.
Don't worry, you will still have a good time! I did actually have a wedding there during Pop Warner, so that shows its not all that bad during that time. Just given the choice, I'm going the second week of December.

Count us in as December guests...arriving 12/25/05 and staying offsite until 1/7/06...may go onsite with DVC points I have 1/6 to 1/8 though! :sunny:

My family of 5, my parents, my sister and her grandson will be there 12/7-12/14 at BWV! Have not purchased our MVMCP tickets yet but hope to do that soon. I CANNOT WAIT!!!!!

178 Dis'ers and counting! We're going to be making quite an impact in December!

Is this the thread with the official list of Dis members for December 2005?

It listed their names and what date they were attending MVMCP.

How about an updated list.

Is there a moderator who we can get to link the two threads together (this one and the MVMCP one) and sticky it?

Best advice is to go with the flow and do what you can. Take advantage of FP to the fullest extent. If you are staying on-grounds, take advantage of EMH also and don't be scared to park hop when a park seems to be getting a bit too crowded. Also, there is plenty to do outside the parks, like visiting the delux resorts to see their sites and sounds of the season.
One last thing, especially during Christmas week. Make sure you make ADRs for your restaurants of choice, I'm sure you are going to need them.
Just remember, when you want to feel like you are not enjoying yourself, think "I'm in WDW and not at work!!!" That usually puts a smile back on my face.

I hate to show my ignorance, but what is POP WARNER?

Pop Warner is an annual, national cheer, dance and football competition held at Wide World of Sports, this year, Dec 4-9. A lot of people do not seem to see the difference in crowd levels because of it, but others see a difference in the crowds from the days the competitors are there and the days after they left. There are, let's say, more teenagers running around than normal during Pop Warner in the parks. Participants also stay at mostly value, and some moderate resorts.

You have gotten some very good advice from angey77. Understand that you will not be able to see everything, the parks and resorts are in full Chrsitmas mode so enjoy all the special stuff. Get up and going early, this is extremley important if you want to do rides. Parks hours will be very long , don't be tempted to sleep in and hit the parks late, the lines will be long and the fastpass will be for late in the evening. Avoid MK on Christmas day at all costs. Everyone will head to MK , we go to EPCOT as it is big and can handle large crowds. Make your PS early or you will get closed out.
Relax and enjoy it will be a blast, crowded but a blast.

This will be our 7th Christmas trip and we are looking forward to another great trip :cool1: :rotfl: :Pinkbounc

181 Dis'ers accounted for in December!
(Some are not listed due to lack of travel dates, but post as you wish to be added!)

82 days left for me, but who is counting? ;)

November 26 - December 3 for us. (whew - just missing pop warner) :cheer2:
MVMCP - Dec 1, Processional - Nov 30.

Although this is my 3rd trip and DH's 2nd, we were hopelessly niave the first time we went and saw/did next to nothing - Space M, Splash M, Country Bears, Alien, Toontown and RR. SO looking forward to it!!!

** 67 days and counting!!!!!** :cool1:

Hi, first time poster here...hehe.

Taking DS12 and DS11 My DS's 13th Birthday trip. I thought I was SO smart to book way in advance and give myself many months to save up to make it a fantastic trip!!! We wanted to do things that we had not done before, like stay onsite, Hoop de Doo, The Coral Reef and my son's dream birthday meal at Teppanyaki. (go figure - a 12 year old sushi lover). I had visions of us having quiet mornings on leisurely bus rides to uncrowded parks. Then returning in the evening to take a quick swim and us getting to sleep early.

Lo and behold, after reading the boards, I discovered the Pop Warner group will be there during my stay, and most likely stay at the value resorts......yikes!!!! The last time we had been to Disney was March 2003 during the Cheerleading Nationals. Our off-site hotel and the parks were overrun with very loud young girls and their very enthusiastic families and coaches. The Indiana Jones Stunt show was cancelled and the MK was out of control crowded. We still had a great time, but there was soooooo much we missed because of the groups that I vowed "NEVER AGAIN"!
:guilty:
All my planning gone awry. (Should have checked these boards out before booking the flights! BAD MOM!). Oh well, I won't let that dampen my excitement too much I just upgraded to a Preferred room at the ASMu, and hoping, to maybe work enough overtime to perhaps upgrade to a moderate. Thinking of the Caribbean Beach. I have talked to both my DSs about the potential for crowded transportation and lots of noise at the hotel and they are a bit concerned about it but happy to be going to our favorite place. :Pinkbounc

So comments or advice from those who have stayed during the Pop Warner Superbowl would be appreciated. Don't get me wrong, I salute the players and cheerleaders, I just hope they aren't too crazy, loud and boisterous.

It will be the Christmas season, a milestone B'day for my DS and we ARE going to the Hoop de Doo, Coral Reef and yes, Teppanyaki thanks to buying the Disney Dining plan. We are very excited. YIPPIE!

Hi Gerweniel!
First off, welcome to the Dis!
Second, don't let Pop Warner get you down. They will be no where near the crowds that are in WDW during March. I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised when you get to the parks.
The only time we had big "problems" with Pop Warner was the last day we were there, on a Friday. Magic Kingdom had too many squealing teenagers in there for my liking. I have to wonder if they were all there because it was close to the end of the competition and they may have had more time on their hands (?).
Remember, don't be afraid to park hop.
And even with Pop Warner, your waits for rides should never be very long, if at all. Just be sure to enjoy yourself and not sweat the small things.
