Does anyone that has been to WDW lately know if they have out the princess from Enchanted out? Just wondering.

Sorry, no. Giselle appeared briefly in the Stars and Motor Cars parade at DHS last Christmas season, and she was in an Enchanted "pre-parade" at MK this past March to celebrate the release of the movie on DVD, but she hasn't been seen since. :(

They're missing something there! She's a great princess, yet I noticed Enchanted got very little attention at all in terms of marketing....

Ahhh... i couldn't remember her name, but i liked her in the movie. I was going to make autograph books and didn't know if i should make one for her or not.

Oh well.. maybe one day she will come out from the one of the man holes in Disney World.

Considering the amount of $$ they must have spent to make Giselle's costume and wig which were absolutely GORGEOUS, you would think they would realease her from captivity sometime soon! Plus like you said every little girl I know saw ENchanted and fell in love with Giselle. I guess they were not prepared for her popularity or something.

We were SO disappointed when we did not find anything or anyone from Enchanted anywhere in WDW! We absolutely loved the movie and all the characters and couldn't believe Giselle was nowhere to be found! :sad2:

if I remember right there is the issue of since giselle is based on amy adams(animated form too) they only purchased use of her likeness for the movie and certain marketing things. This would be one reason why she is not out.

That's a shame. I can tell you that anything with Giselle on it would have been on my DD5's Xmas list last year! They did have some things at the Disney Stores. A few dolls, costumes, nightgown. But nothing at WDW when we were there in Feb. We just missed Giselle in the parades I guess. SO I wonder why they were allowed to use her then, but not now? DIsney needs to pay Amy Adams some more $$ and give the Giselle fans what they want.

Hey Mckymousefn! I'm up in Algonquin.

I'm holding out to see if the Disney Stores have any good Enchanted costumes at Halloween. My DD5 would DIE for the turquoise blue dress Giselle makes out of the curtains! I've seen a few custom made versions on the Disboutiquers thread, and they are so beautiful. I wish I could sew like that!

The character Giselle is owned by Disney.

Amy Adams was cast to play the character in the film.

Someone else can be cast to play the part at the parks.

Hey Robo, can you get a hold of Disney and tell them that there are people that would love to see her at the parks! :lmao: Thanks, you the best!!!

5th paragraph
here's a quote of it though:
Meanwhile, Disney's first live-action princess movie, "Enchanted," will hit screens this week and is being tapped to sell more princess products. The movie -- in which an animated girl betrothed to a prince is propelled into modern-day, live-action New York City -- was originally conceived as a chance to introduce a new princess, Giselle, to the lineup, according to people familiar with the matter. But Disney abandoned that plan when it realized securing the life-long rights to the image of Amy Adams, who plays Giselle, was harder than an ugly step-sister squeezing into Cinderella's glass shoe.

there were a lot of theories on why giselle wasn't doing meet & greets... here's a response i wrote yesterday on another forum:

neither is true. disney owns the character. disney also sells merchandise such as film stills from the movie. you'd have to believe that disney in all its legal history and wisdom would be well advised of any such potential issue long before it happened. aside from the fact that she *has* appeared in parks on both coasts and has done meet & greets at NYC WOD.

it's a different story, but why did the white witch do meet & greets at disneyland and not disney world? surely tilda swinton didn't make that decision.

the dress is also not a factor since they could dress her up in anything and the dress that costs you $4000 in the store costs about 5% of that to make. afterall, haven't you seen plenty of those oscar night dress knockoff articles? considering Disney makes its own costumes. I assure you a new costume for Mickey costs far more than a dress Giselle would wear does.

If the rights to use her likeness were an issue, then I would assume Prince Caspian wouldn't be out and about. Clearly the character in the parks is based off of what Ben Barnes looks like, so I don't get why Amy Adams' Giselle wouldn't be allowed but Ben Barnes' Prince Caspian is. Of course, Caspian isn't a Disney-created character though, so maybe that would be the difference. Just seems unlikely to me that they wouldn't be allowed to portray the character as they see fit due to licensing issues. Doesn't make sense to me.

Either way, it's just a shame she's nowhere to be found in the parks. She's a fun character.

The character Giselle is owned by Disney.

The more pertinent info about characters in the parks concerns Mary Poppins and Bert.

Julie Andrews and the
famous TV comic actor (whose name cannot be printed here)
do not play those roles at the parks,
and yet the characters continue to appear there.

although to be clearer, Disney doesn't own Mary Poppins. I'm pretty sure they don't own the white witch/caspian either.

the distinction that needs to be made is likeness. if there were an animatronic amy adams, that may be a potential issue. for example, george wendt and john ratzenberger filed a suit against the old cheers airport bar franchise because they used animatronic characters (not named norm and cliff) with their likenesses and there is a california law that prohibits someone from unlawfully profiting off a person's image. that case settled out of court though.

but to have someone as an actor portray a character does not give them ownership of the character itself.

and on top of all this, as mentioned, she *has* appeared in the parks, disney *has* sold merchandise with her image, forever rights wouldn't matter since the character wouldn't do meet & greets forever and she has done meet & greets at select locations.

As much as I hate to disagree with Robo, it's actually a contract issue. Actors do have a say in how their likeness can be used and they are a lot more saavy in negotionating marketing deals now then they were when Mary Poppins was made.

The actor who played Prince Caspian probably gave Disney the lifelong rights to his likeness so he could be portrayed at the parks. Although I cannot obviously find the actual contract for Amy Adams, several articles indicate she either did not allow LIFELONG rights or Disney would not pay as much as she wanted. This explains why she was in the parks for a short time.
