Encanto attraction gets more realistic...

I took from it that Lin would like a ride ... another check for him on his resume ... and he talked to Disney about it. But I don't see Disney doing anything with it at this time. Perhaps something like a 3D film attraction would work (Mickey Philharmonic, Bug's Life) where the house effects could be lots of fun. But I think a ride attraction would have to get way creative and complicated to make it work ~ and I don't think Encanto provided a strong enough base for that. The movie didn't even break top 10 for Disney animation. If they want to showcase a new IP there are several above it that could offer ride attractions easier to create and construct.

He's a huge Disney fan (he named his son Sebastian after the crab), I think that is the main driver for him.

Coco is a far, far better film. But I think there's more than just "because Lin Manuel said so" here. Coco is about, for lack of a better word, death. And as much as I know Disney is proud of the film, they may not want to hit that topic too hard in the parks.
Hmm interesting take on the film. It does revolve around death of ancestors, but I feel there is so much more. To me its a film about family and traditions. Good things to focus on. To me Encanto was entertaining and colorful, but the story lacked depth. It almost seemed like another film they could have worked a bit more on the characters. But then again I think Tangled had all the best parts in a movie...character depth, great songs, comedy and animation. While I always felt Frozen was not a great movie. Lots of forced songs and characters. I know I will get slammed for that sacrilege! 😆

I think its inevitable to compare Coco and Encanto based on the beautiful colorful animation and the region of the world ..... to me Coco brought all the feels while Encanto was a cute fun movie but no feels. One had a deep story from start to finish and I'm still not sure what Encanto was trying to say.

PS 🤫 Frozen was a perfect movie for contemporary girls to have their Cinderella moment. It was an incredible cash cow for Disney that even they weren't prepared for. But I was not wowed, I don't even think I watched the second one. But I do love Olaf! 🥕

Encanto and Frozen are great animation with great individual songs. Coco and Tangled are great movies.

Really? It made me teary the whole way through. Coco only makes me cry at the very end.

Really. First time I watched I fell asleep. Second time I made it through but didn't give me anything. The stories didn't flow, there was so much time spent, too much, on each character it didn't leave time to really connect them well, some of the singing was painfully bad and it was so predictable. It could have been an hour tv show and given the same message. I'll watch again to see if I missed some super hidden element but what I mostly got was dysfunction.

Chapek and Iger's Disney only builds attractions that can be put in Shanghai, Japan, Paris and Hong Kong. It allows them to spread the R&D costs across multiple parks (and shareholders).

Encanto has made around $250 million. For comparison, Dr. Strange 2 made $500 million in the first weekend.
Frozen has made $1.2 billion and they're just now building attractions worldwide for it.
Toy Story, Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3 have made $3 billion combined and just got a domestic "land" four years ago.

Disney has really struggled with Encanto's marketing and merchandising. They released it in theaters (forget you Pixar), but didn't spend much promoting it. After its streaming release, it became a grass roots hit—driven mostly by the popularity of "We Don't Talk About Bruno" on social media.

Even today, Encanto merchandise in the parks and on ShopDisney is fairly bleak. As a kid, do you really want to own Antonio's Jaguar? A plastic casita?

They don't know what to do with it. It's a complicated movie with lots of secondary characters who don't stand on their own (except maybe Mirabel and Luisa).

Building a "real" ride for it would be expensive and challenging. I don't think they're going to do it justice. The hype around this is going to end up being a themed walkthrough (best case) or a themed meet and greet (worst case).

I'm the youngest of three daughters, so I guess that made it easier to relate. Though I still think Luisa should be the oldest. I've watched it 5 or 6 times now and have the soundtrack in my car.

Luisa is the oldest, with Isabela in the middle and Mirabel being the youngest.

I feel like both Coco and Encanto have very similar and complementary themes. As 4Ds4Diz mentioned, Coco is about family, traditions and acceptance. The whole film is about not forgetting your roots and those that came before while at the same time being yourself. And Encanto is also about family, traditions and acceptance. About being accepted by who you are and not what your elders and society as a whole expect from you.

I'm the oldest daughter... and oldest grandchild...from a Latin American family. Both Luisa and Isabela were super relatable to me. The movie as a whole was super relatable for all my friends on a personal level, much more than Coco (And I adore Coco).

Nope, sorry, Isabela is the oldest. Luisa is the middle child and Mirabel is the youngest.

It's an easy assumption that Luisa is the oldest because Surface Pressure sounds like an oldest kid's song, but all of the official sources say Isabela is the oldest child.

I’d love this (and/or Coco) to…refresh the three caballeros. Don’t yell at me! ;) I love that ride in the Mexican pavilion for nostalgia as much as the next person but it is in rough shape. How fun would a boat ride celebrating these new characters and music be? They could do such cool things…

Encanto is super fun and I do love the characters and the songs and the location all are great. I didn't feel any real emotional connection at the end though and Disney movies typically do that for me. Just think of the one scene in Coco in the Mausoleum where he first strums the guitar and the golden leaves dance around him...I mean that scene alone is worth the price of admission just like the rotating shot in the ballroom of Belle and Beast dancing...iconic. But again if you said which movie would I rather watch right now...I'm going Encanto because it's just more fun.

And I agree about Lin Manuel having to broaden his musical styling a bit if he wants to sustain this kind of success with Disney animations. At some point the same trick gets a little tired. Again I love him and his music but it's like he's written one show called "Moana Encantos In the Hamilton Heights"

I agree with the songs all sounding the same with regards to style. I thought, "gee I must be getting old" because the song at the beginning laying out the different family members and their back story, was hard for me to follow. It was sung so quickly and with a bit of an accent. Thankfully I was able to catch words here and there, so along with the images on the screen I was able to follow along. Still feel I didn't connect with the characters because I was so focused on understanding what they were saying. 😁

Watch the singalong version! It has the words on the screen.
I had trouble following all the words the first time, it gets much easier the more you watch and get familiar with it.

Yup, based on my experiences, Luisa seems more like the older and Isabela the middle, but that's not what they are in the movie.
Isabela and Dolores are the oldest and are close in age. Then Luisa. Then Camilo and Mirabel are close in age with Camilo a little older. Then Antonio way younger.

There are many similarities with the musical themes from In the Heights and yes until you actually see the words it's very hard to understand much of it. Once you know the words though of course you can hear it all very distinctly afterwards.

I would love to hear where you guys are getting this info cause the art of book literally calls Luisa the "Big Sister". And there are no mentions of ages in either the book or the movie.
