I'm trying to figure out a gift for about 30 employees (assorted ages, M and F) that report to DH. I was thinking of a movie night popcorn tub with a $5 Blockbuster card and a candy. Even that will add up to quite a bit, does anyone have any other ideas?

Not sure of the situation, does it have to a "gift"? If not, how about a holiday breakfast that DH sends a note about and provides (bagels, cream cheese, etc.) You should be able able to come in at about half the price of the popcorn even if you go all out.

I buy for about 30 emplyees every year. I buy the scratch lottery tickets and but it in a bag of candy. The lottery ticket is always a hit

What a great idea for co-workers too! Thanks!

We buy for our 50+ employees every year. We usually buy the Showcase movie passes from AAA or mall gift certificates. The movie passes come 4 in a package for $24 but you could give 1 or 2 per person. You must be a AAA member to buy the passes at this price.

We own a restaurant so we also give them a free meal. They normally pay ½ price while on duty but the coupon we give them is for soup to nuts, everything included. They love it.

Lottery scratch tickets are also a good idea.

You could also go to the dollar store and buy a Christmas mug and put in one of those individual hot chocolate packets or gourmet tea, some candy, a sented candle, a lottery ticket or a movie ticket, pencil, pen, candy cane....etc. buy some film to wrap it all and tie it with a bow.

sees sells great heavy duty/microwave safe mugs. you can pick and choose from all of their wrapped candies (suckers, chocolates, hard candies...) 1 pot bags of coffee, hot cocoa mix...and they will put them into the mugs and wrap/tie each in a clear plastic bag with a see's bow. i did this several times for large groups and they always enjoyed the goodies as well as having a good (non holidays style) mug for use at work.

I'm right there with you guys. I have 10 employees to buy for and I know that doesn't sound like a lot but of the 10 I have 9 women (one of them Jewish) and 1 man. So I have to stay away from anything Christmas and anything too feminine. In the past I've done the mugs with hot chocolate mixes and candy, had DH bake 10 Raspberry Swirl Cheesecakes, cookie tins with 3 doz. homemade cookies, last year I gave up and bought the office our own Microwave and Refridgerator. I'm stumped this year. Was thinking about just buying each a $10 Gift Card and call it a day!:confused3

How about an extra paid day off? ;) Ok, so that's probably not an option.

Good luck, so glad all we have to buy are a couple of suck-up supervisor gifts (we've found that champagne always works well ;) )

I find that buying for woman is easy. Men are more difficult. Candles are always nice for women......what do you get for a lone guy in an office??? Tough one!!!

If you gave $10 Gift certificates to Walmart or Target, they could all get something they want.

I'd vote for not the mugs or candles. I am thinking from the direction of the employee- I for one already have a shelf full of mugs and end up donating mugs and most candles. I like the idea of the movie passes or GC's.

This year I'm giving the people I work with (some peers, some staff) Rice Krispie treats, lottery scratch offs, and a clever note pad from knockknock.biz.

If I may tag on a similar question .... my husband makes about a dozen gifts each year for our neighbors and relatives. He selects one thing and makes them for everyone. Previous years have ranged from patriotic candle holders, tree ornaments, candy dispensers, bible boxes, decorated concrete tiles, and others than I can't recall. He can do most anything with wood or stained glass.

This year I found a good deal on boxes of wild flower seeds. My thought was that he could make stained glass butterfly sun catchers and I could buy something else gardeny to go with them. He is leaning toward wind-chimes, which would work also I guess.

Any thoughts? The ideas need to be fairly simple since it's already 10/31 and he hasn't started yet.

swilshire - If I was getting wild flower seeds I would need something to plant them in- I would like a small wooden flower box!! Then I could display it on the porch or the side of the driveway. :cheer2: :cheer2:

tink2dw,

Thanks for the suggestion. I should have specified that these are seeds for a large area, such as a small field or along a driveway. Most of our family and friends live on farms or at least have big yards with areas where they might enjoy these.

I thought about some of the obvious like pots and trowels, but none of those really fit into the wildflower theme. Maybe he'll just do the windchimes and I can throw in a box of seeds.

What about those cookie or brownie mixes that you layer into mason jars? I think those are cute, and probably wouldn't cost a lot. You can google instructions to do it, or I've seen places where you can order the instructions, and it comes with fabric and recipe cards to tie to the lids.

As an employee I'd like a pair of movie passes. Or a phone card...sure I have a cellphone but they die or maybe you don't have a signal. Phone cards are good for making calls from places like inside airports or large buildings.

Or for giving to your kids when they go away on school trips. Or for passing along to elderly relatives so they can call friends long distance.

Calling cards are great for vacations, like WDW!! lol!!
