I get called emo ALL the time....I'm like "IM NOT EMO!!!! IM SCENE!! IF YOUR GOING TO LABEL ME AS SOMETHING AT LEAST LABEL ME CORRECTLY!!!" yeah it really ticks me off when they say that just because a) everyone assumes im emo b/c i listen to FOB b) i wear skinny jeans and hoodies everyday c) i think guys in girls pants are hott.....

IDK i think everyone who does the things mentioned above are NONT always emo....and that technically EVERYONE is emo since it's short for emotional...

Most hilarious thing: I owned that t-shirt when I was 14, hahahaha. That's an Alkaline Trio t-shirt.

But when I think of Emo, I think of what I showed, not what you showed. That's a scene kid, to me.

I have never been called emo, or dressed remotely like that. Sure, I've had some pretty emotional times in my life but I never flaunted it around with black hair and lots of eyeliner.

I personally hate the emo style, just not to my taste.

Personally i think emo is just a type of music and thats it.
When i was younger i thought of killing myself, i was depressed, but when i look at other people i feel like those were silly reasons when really i am so lucky to have what i do.

Ah, it's just a music genre. If a friend would see the genre say emo they'd automatically think it's weird..but there's another stereotype. If you can say that you like rock music..if you can say you like techno music, this music is just another genre..just like everything else.
And yeah, Pete Wentz really annoys me...xD

I sure do like a lot of "emo" bands

None of those bands are true emo. Moss Icon, the Hated, Silver Bearings, Native Nod, Merel, Hoover, Current, Indian Summer, Evergreen, Navio Forge, Still Life, Shotmaker, Policy of Three, Clikatat Ikatowi, Maximillian Colby, Sleepytime Trio, Noneleftstanding, Embassy, Ordination of Aaron, Floodgate, Four Hundred Years, Frail, Lincoln, Julia, Shroomunion...that's emo music. read UP.

Those bands are all alternative rock to me. EXCEPT Weezer, The Get Up Kids, and old Sunny Day Real Estate (diary and before), which are indie rock. Old JEW is Emo, though.

How do you classify emo?

To paraphrase fourfa.com:

Lots of variety in the songs, from soft, hushed vocals and acoustic guitar to screaming vocals mixed with crazy loud guitars. The vocals are more intense than those of the punk or emocore variety. While the quiet parts would include normal singing, the loud parts could include anything from screams to actual crying and sobbing. The lyrics are usually poetic, mostly abstract, but are really hard to decipher in the music.

Seriously though, when I listen to intense emo music, I cannot stop crying. It's just solely based on pure emotions, and I cannot help but feel the pain that seeps out of the songs. Which is why I usually stick to happy indie music unless I'm really upset.
