Emmy's.....

The bit from South Park was from an episode last season - it involved Tom Cruise hiding in Stan's (Kyle's?) closet and the joke was "Tom Cruise, come out of the closet." Tom Cruise successfully got the episode banned in England, and it was the episode that mocked Scientology and made Isaac Hayes quit.

Oh, and then it was nominated for an Emmy for animated program. :)

I loved Conan! That came as a surprise because I didn't think he would really be all that good. The Trouble music number was very funny.

Mostly it was the same ole, same ole. If Alan Alda brushed his teeth on TV he'd win an Emmy. I never "Got" him. :confused3 I was very disappointed that Jean Smart didn't win best supporting actress for 24. I was also bummed about Hugh Laurie not even getting nominated and the fact that Prison Break had nothing. Yeah, I heard it was something about new rules and regulation. I guess we have to let the Hollywood elite do the voting for the Emmy's. At least the fans get their say when the ratings come out every week. :teeth:

The night ended happily though. Go Kiefer and 24!!!! :thumbsup2

I thought Conan did a GREAT job of hosting the entire show....the Bob Newhart thing was hilarious as was the opening sequence!

And I was very excited when The Office won for best comedy and Amazing Race for best Reality show (I'm probably one of the minority who actually cares about that one.... :rotfl2: )

Shoot, I forgot the Emmy's were on and missed the opening sequence.

It repeats on Bravo three times today. :)

Did anyone notice that Conan's joke monolog was cut off when Charlie and Martin Sheen came out on stage? It was like they interrupted him and walked out to introduce their category just as he was getting to the punchline of a joke about them. You could see that they weren't very happy, and you could barely hear Martin say to Charlie..."Should we jump him?"

What was up with that? :confused3 DH and both didn't think they were kidding. The only thing I can think of is that they were made because he made fun of Charlie earlier in the show about being around little kids. Anyone else see that and know anymore as to what happened?

I was about to post pretty much the same thing - loved the Bob Newhart stuff - I have just always really liked him, feel like I grew up watching him...yay!!!! for "The Office" (did Mindy flash the audience there for a sec???)...loved the Colbert/Stewart bit.....

(not directly show related - but did anyone catch the "Boston Legal" clip with Shatner and Auberjonois where Shatner is saying something about being the Captain and Auberjonois 's character being just an under paid deck hand???? Thought that was cute!!!)

not a huge fan of awards shows - usually tape them and skip through - but last night was pretty good...I wished I had taped it though to go back and catch the part with the Sheens cutting off Conan!!!

I thought the opening skit was hysterical--except for the very first sequence, where the plane hits turbulence and it's obvious the plane is going down. :guilty: In light of the terrible plane crash that morning in Lexington, KY, I thought that part should have been edited out. It just made me feel kinda queasy. But the rest was spot on :thumbsup2

OH!!!...I thought Farrah was very well behaved - when she came out on stage I was thinking "uh oh, here we go..."!!!!! :sunny:

They would be cued as to when to come out and wouldn't just suddenly wander onto the stage. It was mistimed probably.

Farrah was well behaved if a bit strange. It was good to see the other two again though.

NOT happy with the opening sequence based on yesterday morning's tragedy...however it did look like they tried to edit out some stuff (namely the actual shot from LOST where the section of plane crashed into the surf off of the beach). I don't know what else they could have done, but man oh man was it awkward.

Yea, I cringed through that, but I was forgiving knowing that it was prerecorded, of course. It could not have easily have been edited out. The crash initiated the whole series of events.

On Fox news this morning they were having a FIT over that. I mean a FIT. "Poor taste," "insensitive," etc.

Barry Manilow won an emmy! :cheer2: Love him!

And then even better was Steven Colbert's wail: "I LOST TO BARRY MANILOW!" :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Love him!

Jean Smart was robbed. She's exquisite, and such a fine actress. As much as I liked the other actresses nominated, Smart deserved the Emmy.

Did West Wing win anything? I so miss that show!
Just one. Alan Alda won for Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. I was quite disappointed that Martin Sheen didn't win in his final chance as Jed Bartlet. I'm not taking anything away from Kiefer Sutherland who is very good in his role, but this was the last chance for the Academy to acknowledge his brilliance in that role. Most people think he's won several times already for this role but he hasn't. He won the Golden Globe and SAG awards but not the Emmy. :sad2:

Seems as though Conan is being put down quite alot for his opener. Who knew there would be a plane crash yesterday? I didn't hear about it until the news this morning. :confused3

I was jumping up and down last when Kiefer Sutherland won and when 24 won!! :yay: We just started watching 24 in May when we borrowed friends DVD's and DH just downloaded season 5 and we are about 1/4 of the way though that. I have SUCH a crush on Jack Bauer  he is just the coolest guy on TV.

Loved the Dick Clark tribute and the Aaron Spelling tribute. It just blows my mind just how much TV Aaron Spelling was responsible for. :happytv:
