I saw two copies of it on VHS at the video store yesterday. I went with Charlie Brown and the Grinch instead. I haven't seen Emmett Otter on tv in years.

Guess I will have to see if I can find a copy to buy

Jenny :earsboy:

omg...my brother and I used to watch that every year!

I bought it on dvd through amazon last year. I don't think it's been aired in at least 10yrs

It's just the best Christmas show EVER! I bought the DVD from Amazon a couple years ago.

This was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid. I remember watching it on HBO at Christmas time.
I own it now on DVD. You can find it at Walmart.

I've read that the DVD has a lot less Muppet due to rights issues. Just a warning.

This was DD18's very favorite holiday special when she was little and she ran out and bought a copy as soon as it hit the shelf! She loves it every bit as much as she did when she was 4 and still tears up when "Ma" sings "Pa's" favorite song.
I don't know what you mean about "less Muppets". It seems exactly the same as I remember.
Great show!

Great show!

Depending on when you first saw the special on TV, you could see two different versions. Many people are used ot the ABC version which added more Kermit, but edited other parts. The current DVD is the original 1977 HBO version, which some would say is missing the added ABC stuff, but is really the original version.

Hands down, the best Christmas movie!!!

I own it myself, it is one of my daughters' favorites at Christmastime...

I have not seen it on TV in years... another one I would love to buy is the John Denver one with the Muppets..

I second this! Ya just gotta love Miss Piggy on 12 Days of Christmas!

"Five GOLD Rings! Ba dump bump bump..."

This is my favorite! I still have a copy on VHS although we don't own or plan to own a VCR.... :badpc: Glad to know it's out on DVD

One of my favorites- used to watch it on HBO when I was in elementary school. Got the VHS about 8 years ago and finally found the DVD in Wegman's this year. It is soooo good!

I love the songs and Emmett is the cutest!

Wow, how cool to find some more Emmett Otter fans! Most people don't have a clue when I mention this movie.

What memories this thread brings back. My DS loved this show when he was little. We always watched it together and we still find time to watch it at least once during the holidays. It's a tradition for us to watch it just like "It's A Wonderful Life" and "Miracle on 34th Street".

I watched it every time I saw that it was on. I have asked for it for Christmas this year. I too cry every time Ma sings Pa's song!!

Does anyone know if the DVD out right now has the original songs? The tv version had cut out a song or two. It does say with unaired songs on the front, so I'm hoping it's the original version. TIA!!
