If I have already made my reservation but was not an Emerald Isle member at the time.....and then joined....can I give them my membership number at pickup and have my spouse be a second driver for free?

Thank you.

Nope, you need to make an entire new reservation or call them and see if they will amend the reservation.

Their rules read so odd for EC spouse. Tell me what you think this says. :) I get totally confused with this.

Free (in the United States and Canada) – An Emerald Club members spouse, business partner, employer, or fellow associate who has an assigned corporate contract with National and drives the car for business purposes.
All other additional authorized driver situations are subject to a daily cha

Gail, I agree it is poorly written and confusing. Here is how I believe it should be interpreted:

If you are an Emerald Club member, the following people will be authorized to drive your rental without paying an additional fee:

1. Your spouse; or
2. Your business partner; or
3. Your employer; or
4. a fellow associate of yours who has an assigned corporate contract with National and drives the car for business purposes.

So I have always read it to mean your spouse can drive your car if you are an EC member and rent from National.

and, you are totally correct!!! :) I called the EC hotline this am and got the answers. They should have divided it into two paragraphs or used bullets/numbers like you did. I did ask about s/o's but, she kept saying spouse, so I will assume that it is ok, also I am and EC member too.

Thanks for the opinion, works for me. :)
