Do you think a person could go pick their vehicle from the Emerald Aisle, take the keys and leave the carry ons in the vehicle then go back to pick up the checked luggage and wait for the rest of their party which would be coming in shortly on another flight (20 min)?

You could... you should lock it, and you should be prepared (a) for the other flight to be delayed; (b) to have aggravated other renters who wanted "that" vehicle but couldn't take it because you called dibs on it; and (c) to take that vehicle even if there's one you like better when you actually get to the garage to head out to your resort - because that's the vehicle you held.

If it were me, in order to avoid a,b and c above, I'd just take the vehicle out and park it in general parking while I waited. Yes, it will cost a couple of dollars, but to me it would be worth it not to have any potential hassles on vacation.

Well, I might bring my luggage- and select a car, but I would stay with the car til my other travelers joined me.

as an aside- be sure to compare prices, like on expedia, when we traveling this spring, no amount of codes/IDs, etc could get the price as low as some of the other rental companies- and they had the same situation-true, I had to check in first- but it took hardly any time and they bumped me up to a larger vehicle for free when I walked across the street.

The only way I would do it is if you get permission from an employee. Otherwise someone may go to them and ask why there are no keys and they may have a spare somewhere and unlock it.

I agree with the suggestion to move it to the public garage.

One time, we selected our vehicle, carefully loaded all of our luggage & installed car seats, and then found that there was no key! Someone must have taken it to "reserve" it, but not locked it! :confused3 It was very annoying to have to move everything over to another vehicle.

So, if you do decide to do this, please be sure to lock the door to save someone the hassle we went through. :sad2:

Honestly, I don't think it's worth it, because the inventory is constantly changing, and the odds are just as great that after you select what you want and take the key, when you come back after getting your luggage, there would be something just as good or even better, and you'd want to switch.

Really, the key with Emerald Aisle is to be absolutely sure that you're fine with a mid-size vehicle, and if you find an upgrade to something else on the aisle, just consider it a bonus!

We have done this ... however, when I've "saved" the car, I've locked it and only gone to the end of the aisle to wait/watch for my DH

Just remember, technically it's not your rental until you go through the kiosk, turn in your paperwork and have that vechicle assigned to your account. I would be afraid that an employee would pull out a spare key and drive off with my stuff. I would hate to come back to the spot and see my bags piled in the corner and the car gone -- or worse, not see your bags. Now if anyone wants to claim the car, and stay with the car, that's a different story.
